Today we have a German Vs Soviet Starter Set Battle Report for you using the new Leopard book for Team Yankee by Battlefront. After all of these chats about background we wanted to get stuck into some fighting!

Like the look of this version of FoW but surely there should be a proximity rule in all version preventing players stacking their tanks like they are Parked in a car park? - not exactly tactical realism!
The problem is that you're looking at an abbreviated battlefield. If you stuck to the 1/100 scale, the tanks, which routinely engage at 1-2km would be shooting 32-48 FEET. Never mind artillery ranges. This is why the forward formation of T-72s had the guy in the back unable to get some cover from his buddies. It's very difficult to get tactical realism with modern weapons in anything other than an urban or closed in setting in miniature wargaming. You'd have to move up a scale to more operational like microarmor where each tank is representing an entire platoon, and the ground scale is much much smaller.
Excellent game. Kinda one-sided... but good fun.

The leopard 2 (a variant) is still today the main battle tank of the army here in Spain. Probably not the best these days but still a pretty vehicle.
leopards are crazy strong. it was interesting to see how an elite army, fights.

we have the same problem in the game! 7 M1 AA shooting down 4 Hinds in one round by .30 MG..........
Can't wait for the British contingent , my dad was a tank commander I grew up around chieftains , scorpions ,scimitars and fv432 's later on the early challengers, so many memories in north Germany !
a better game is ww2 doesn't end after the AXIS defeat and Stalin continues his advance (as Patton warned) and the ALLIES fight Stalin's Soviet war machine at full power..I do this now..try that not this.
Do the Germans also have support aircraft? It would be awesome to see that as well. I suppose being NATO, though, American aircraft would work.
Game play looks good, but I have to ask whats the dimension on those road pieces. That board just gave me idea of what I can use a pile of 1/8" thick scrap pieces of plywood paneling I have seating in my shop.
As a Pole, I'm not sure who to cheer on. The Germans were 10x worse during their occupation but the Russians stayed 10x longer!?!?
First mistake in the game was just charging forward. Always measure where your opponent can tactically move to, then figure where you want to move.
Im excited about Team Yankee but no one plays it at my local shops, the West Germans look like theyre gonna counter the Soviet horde. Hopefully Brits come to play soon too!

Every game of this I watch the russian get murdered. There seems to be little balance. When we decided to look into it I got lumbered with the Russians. :(

Well shoot fire, of course I want to leave a comment, the Leopard series of tanks are my favorite in the world so would love to get one of those starter sets!
should have just flown the hinds right in the corner edge of the board behind the Leopard 2's and shot missiles into the rear armour on the front rank of tanks it is a joke how the hinds are the D version and not the full gunship variant with the 30mm cannon and 8 missles
guys: its Zug not Sug. i know i know german is hard. just pronounce it like you would tsunami making it basicly: tsug or at least something close to it.
Now I know the battle report here and the one Battlefront did themselves are meant to promote the new West Germans, but shouldn't the Russians win once at some point? :D
You'll need a military padre for your wedding plans John. I don't think the usual sort of priest will approve.

I started with team yankee but i just cant understand how stupid rules there are by swapping the targets and call it as mistaken target, its like playing gods game and not strategy game. And russian need better tanks or at least same range as the other nations.
I still think the leopard is overpowered , since this is supposed to be set in the early 80s . Can't wait till the Brits come out with a cheiftan

Game looks great, but this seems odd.
The game was both fun and informative. That said, I wouldn't want to be the Soviets!
Ouch, that was painful, but 8pts difference is another couple of T72s ;)
Don't feel bad, my dice crap out on me turn 3 every time and that's the turn that makes or brakes my games.
Is the Hind the only helicopter in the game which is able to move an fire its AT-Weapons ?
the rule set for Flames of war is awesome and fun to play but this looks more streamlined and faster can't wait to try it out
While i loved playing this, I personally prefer force on force due to the smaller scale, and ease of play
we still use the leopard 2 in Spain

The Germans are a very elite force but they won't have many models on the tabletop. If you capitalise on that and outmanoeuvre them you should get the upper hand :)
TheBeastsOfWar thanks BOW. Inspirational videos though. I'm already hooked on this and the nuke theory video and opted to get Americans as they seemed the happy medium between Ruskies and Germans :) My friend has gone mother russia, but in the future I'll be scooping up some germans as nice allies. Video was really concise and easy to follow, so much appreciation.

Even though I've supposedly got 'my' national army already being a US citizen I'm excited about the Germans, I was wondering if there were plans for British Army of the Rhine?

A nice quick battle with a good intro to the game system. Terrain, unfamiliarity with the rules and limited play experience had as much influence on the outcome as the differences in point values.

Thank you Phil and Beasts of War for providing this demo video. Hopefully this will go a long way to teaching new players how to play.
