My son and l just purchased a 1976 same colour 1500, on Friday last. I know this video is 9 years old now and shudder to think what it would cost up here today to replicate. The Canadian dollar isn't what it used to be 😢. Anyhow, she's lovely. What a pleasure to see what can be done and done well. Thanks for the inspiration, although we're never going to be at this level of commitment or expense.
This is by far the best video I have seen on a summary of a Triumph Spitfire restoration. I will be referring to it often when I start the 76 US fed I have parked in my garage. I love the updates, mods, and conversions you made on this brown beauty. Lots of solid and logical improvements you made. I love everything you did on this car and hope to add many of these features to my own project. Seriously. Thank you very much for this video. Keep up the excellent work!
What a lovely looking car you've done a great job here buddy 👍 there's not many cars that can look that good in brown. The interior trim is superb. The style of the spitfire is timeless. You should feel proud
Congrats, what a lovely Spitfire. I like your sensible mods. When a new Spitfire arrived at the dealership a spare set of keys were taped to the underside of the washer bottle. During the car's PDI, the mechanic was supposed to remove the spare keys & hand them to the salesman. But this rarely happened. So when we were 17, we'd all load up in my 1948 Austin 8 & drive to pubs looking for Spitfires. If we found one, flip open the bonnet, retrieve the keys and move the car across the car park, lock the car & replace the keys. Then we'd sit in my Austin 8 & giggle watching the confused owner come out of the pub looking for his Spitfire. On a good night we'd move 4 or 5 Heralds & Spitfires. Great fun for us 17 year olds. ☺
This is the way a spit should have been built from the factory. The dash, exhaust and the way you propped up the bonnet is my favorite parts of the car. Sooo Cool!
then you want one of my many other older Spits! :-) A very good friends of mine is the original owner of a 1979 Spit and looks just as new as this. It's the same Spit Hemmings used for it multi-page center fold Spit article a few years back.
Having spent most of my life working on my and other people's Brit cars l can really respect what you've done. Lot's of $ and hrs. However, l can imagine how it drives and l'm sure it beings a lot of joy and satisfaction. Thanks for sharing it with us.
thanks for the kudos.... Liberty is Spit number 12(?) (+2 GT6's and 3 Spit6's) I figured it was about time I went 'all new' without rebuilding all the little parts. I also used up alot of my 'good parts' I'd saved up over the years. (front and rear GT6 brakes etc). Yep spent way more than usual, but worth I think. Still could easily break even if it sells.
I always thought the Spitfire was a pretty car. When it's in nice clean condition like this, it is something to be admired. With today's cars, the only dues you have to pay to own one is the price. Cars like this come from a time when you had to put some effort into the ownership. Maintenance, ride, creature comfort, and lots of idiosyncrasies ruled out many of the non-enthusiasts. I had two Fiat X1/9s which I enjoyed immensely, but I always turned my head for these. Thanks for the enjoyable video.
You had me at the plexiglass air intake.... Passed that all I was doing was drooling like a man just ready to eat a fat juicy steak! Thanks for showing us this superb specimen of a triumph. It's about making the car better and updated to a better standard.
Wow, I'm really impressed. Funny how many similarities I see under the bonnet to my 1971 Triumph Vitesse. I'll have to try putting hydraulic struts under my bonnet. This weekend I'll be binge-watching your videos!
I'm presently at work refurbishing my MGB; anticipated completion is not expected for at least nine months to a year. Your Spitfire appears perfect for immediate enjoyment around town. I would be interested in obtaining a price from you for your nice little car with a view towards purchase. If interested I would enjoy hearing from you.
I also have a 1980 Spit built in February. Mine was in rough shape when I got it but will never be as nice as yours. I did do duel carb conversation and installed bumpers off a 1976 parts car. My carpet set did not fit as well as yours. But this gives me more inspection thanks
Nice work, looks great from vid. I use to work on spits back in the 70 & 80s. I am currently looking to buy one, however deciding on a miata as well. If I go with the miata, I will upgrade to a LSx v8. I also like the TR6. If I go with the Spit, I am favoring the 1970 round but any year is ok if no, no rust and original. That way it would be a good car to restore properly. Thanks for the vid. PS would consider a properly restore car as well.
have had two Miatas, while still owning FIS6 (just google FIS6) miatas are fun, but just too 'generic' never the comments or BTDT comments the Spits generate
Hi, I was looking for one ,this is the same color as my last one ...love it where is the hard top ..in chicago.I ran it in the winter the over heated motor love it .but I did throw a rod in -40 .did you know that it never got cold inside ,in the winter.wow. how much . please kind sir....🙂
2 years ago (see comments) I said $12K and i'd consider throwing in a HT. But I really have to rethink that considering what nice specimens of Spits/GT6's are going for these days. The F/R brake upgrades alone, overall condition and low mileage put it the upper range these days, i'd have to start at the mid to upper teens-K :-)
as the description above states.... brought it home Oct '14 and this vid was posted Apr '15 working evenings and weekends Was only going to touch up the body in a few places ended up painting the whole car. Parts $$? lost the spreadsheet. Labor $$ ?? free! it was me doing the work :-)
