I owned one of these, a 1978 model for 3 years. Yes, they are temperamental, somewhat underpowered but all the same fun to drive and if you are mechanically inclined not too hard to find parts for and easy to work on. The motor itself is reliable, keep the oil changed, ensure the alternator is charging and the radiator filled. Other than keeping a close eye on them, these cars are are simple to maintain and deliver good gas mileage. My ex wife sold the car out from under me when I was out, came back and saw the car was missing! didn't even get the $ she got for it, she just wanted the thing gone so she could park her car there! wound up losing her too the next year! I think the car was the keeper, while the woman just got recycled onto a "friend".
I had a 74 with over drive air-conditioning and a hard top ... Spent more time replacing axle joints than driving it . It was also prone to drop the number 3 cylinder . Which happened to me one night 3 oclock in the morning in the middle of the everglades ...... Theres a reason they dont make them anymore .

Vegas is actually a really small area, so him living pretty close might not be that far fetched. But the thing is, everything on this show is set up by appointment. They arent going to have a live camera crew just standing around, while Rick randomly meets a person for a deal - and then sit there for 40 min while his expert arrives. I mean, what if Rick calls his expert, and they are busy. What if there is traffic? Do all those people just sit there and wait? The answer is NO! There have been numerous people that have worked on the show on the crew side of things. And the actual sellers/ the bargaining sections are 100% real. They aren’t scripted. And they dont do cuts while filming, except when they get the expert on. Which they then resume. But people seem to think that means all of this is fake. No. The actual sale part is real. But they have to plan it out. This means people “apply” for the show. They apply to sell their goods on the show. And the store decides which sellers would make for a good segment on the show. Which items, are worth being filmed. So of course they have to set up an appointment with these people. Doesnt mean its fake. Just means that its planned, and edited. Thats to be expected.
Some of it isn't scripted some of it is I should know cuz I met Rick at his pawn shop when I visited there he was with a customer and there wasn't any cameras and so was chum I did see rebecca she's hotter in person
@@mewgiah8057 I can understand how they would do this when they are leaving the store--how they would know which of their experts they would need to call in but I'm doubting it works this way for people that come into the store. Which isn't all that bad in that they could shot around it--move on to other segments/scenes while the expert is called in & gets to the store.
The Triumph Spitfire, is to me the best looking sports car ever! (I like the Jag XKE too)... My brother-in-law has three Spitfire 1500's. He keeps one running, and uses the other two for parts, just to keep 'the one' running... I love it! Nothing sounds as good, or looks as good as a Spitfire... Not even my wife's 2002 Miata; but that is a close second!
I used to have a 1971 Spitfire Mk IV, which had the 1300cc engine --- I had a friend with a 1500. The Spitfires are absolutely beautiful and a blast to drive. They're not reliable, but they'er also not complicated, and most things are easy to reach. I loved it!
She wanted 6,000, found out it was 3,500-4,000 retail, so asks 7,000... makes sense. Perhaps being on a TV show was a bucket list item too. Considering what they all really wanted, they all won.
Yep, I had one in the early eighties, in the same shade of yellow. It was the 1300 model but one of the previous owners had replaced the engine for some reason, and the replacement engine had come out of a Triumph Herald so was actually 1360. It was a beautiful car, no car has boosted my ego like that one did (I was barely out of my teens at the time, cruising around with the top down and shades on.) Sadly it got written off when someone shunted me from the rear at a stop sign, pushing me straight into a red “pillar” post box, so the car just crumpled up at both ends. But while it lasted, that car was sooo much fun (in the summer at least) and I remember it having a tremendous lock, it could be turned on a sixpence (or a dime if you’re from America.) 😊
Of all the comment sections on RUclips. Pawn starts are the best for it. No celebrity gets killed like Rick. It’s all funny humour nothing malicious.. Pmsl the last half hour reading the comment sections on every pawn star clip just killing Rick 😂..
Being an old car enthusiast with multiple car restoration projects currently there's no way I would even give her 6000. Maybe 3500 because the exterior is in rough shape and I wouldn't call it "good condition"
Future 75th True I have a 1973 spitfire, the English market one. I paid around £6000 for it, unlike this one though, the bodywork is good. that car has clearly had a few prangs in its life. Something like this should be worth three to four thousand in its current condition.
74 was the worst year for any car. emission control just started and motors would be junk at 50,000 miles.folks drop a 289 V8 in the older spitfires and they are tons of drivable fun. They also came with a electric over drive button on the shifter that was cool
It's nice to see these cars getting some recognition, I've had my '67 since new, but they were not terribly well made. Nice for entry level British collectible, but the MGB is far superior.
First of all, that's not a Mk IV, it's a 1500. I would suggest he call somebody who knows what he's talking about. Having owned one from 1985 to 1990, I can tell you, any drive you don't walk back from is a good drive in a Spitfire.
Obviously this was done for 3 reasons: 1. they can make a 4 minute segment for the Pawn Star show, and 2. she can get some popularity for this car (so that the lady can actually sell it), or 3. being on TV was on her bucket list.
MASSIVE wah wah to the expert.......... the first item to look at on these vehicles: chassis outriggers (3 each side) and the outer chassis rails that the outriggers support. they rust out like buggerin buggery
I looked at the car to possible buy in summer 2015, she wanted 3600. I passed....I would have paid 1500 for the 1500. These go for 8-10k showroom/ car show ready. 4-6 for a mechanical sound and not too beat. 500-2000 for a project car, and this is just that.

I've owned my 71 spit for 43 years and is the first car I ever bought. it's an excellent car to learn mechanics on when you are 21. With the bonnet up you have access to everything and you get to sit on the front tires while working. mine is still pretty much stock with the exception of removing the Zenith Carb that required oil in the dampner and replaced it with a Weber DCOE side draft and the necessary header exhaust system. some would say that that swap bastardized the "original" aspect but you didn't have to live with that horrible finicky original carb system. the sound is better and when you have such a low HP output you can definitely pick up on the fact that it gained some power. Interestingly mine is yellow also and I live in Arizona too. Restored the interior recently and it looks like new inside. Iv'e had offers of $10k to sell it but it's not going anywhere except to my daughter some day.
