Omar Sy is too humble to talk about how popular he is in France. Fantastic comedian and incredible actor and philanthropist!!! So happy his career took off in the USA he is a gem!!!
Fun fact : many years ago Omar Sy was a comedian in a duet with a guy name Fred, they were just hilarious, in one of their skit, Fred was a crazy psychic and predicted to Omar (who was playing a maid who just lost his job ) that one day he would become a great movie star in the US ( or Canada don't remember ) and that he should take all his family and move there. That's exactly what Omar did years later, I'm so proud of him he is from a very humble background and he rised up to the top in France and now in USA 💖
I guess maybe Mr Jimmy Kimmel was trying to make him more relatable for the American audience (speculation) but this was a very shallow interview and just left me wondering why there weren't more of the types of questions he asks his other guests. Omar Sy is captivating and it would be cool to have been given more challenging and/ or personal questions, not like (how it came across to me), "Hey. You're in America now, right? So what American things do you know? Let's qualify you."
I see your point and totally relate with it, but I think mostly was to keep it simple for him due to the language barrier, I guess if Kimmel dove too deeply in to things, it would make it harder for Sy to get his point across, dragging out his spot on the show for longer than it was scheduled for
Youre overthinking it. I swear everyone is soft nowadays. Go walk up to that man and tell him all that crap you just posted. I guarantee he would be confused
As a foreigner living in France I'm so happy that Omar is finally getting international popularity, this guy was amazing in The Intouchables, also he was the Interpol agent in Inferno, and the velociraptors carer in Jurassic World (among other roles) so he's not new in this business. He has an amazing charisma and deserves all this attention
I feel I have to add that the French sounds for u (in Lu) and in (in Pin) aren't part of the usual English sound spectrum. I spoke with many English natives who told me 'in' felt very unnatural for them to pronounce when they got started.
@@renobutters exactly what I have to explain to all my friends every time I try to teach them a French word that has sounds they aren't able to pronounce
Agreed, not even top 100. But he's a pretty nice guy. He was hilarious when he had a segment on a variety show about 10 years ago alongside his friend Fred Testot. I don't get all the fuss with Lupin when we have much better shows here like Kaamelott. When will Netflix buy it? I'm sure it translates well to English.
@@renobutters you are hard to put it out of top 100. I dare to disagree, I'm french also, keeping the comment in English for everyone. I did a nice conversion from comedy to acting anything. I'm freaking happy to see Omar reaching so many people around the world. He deserves every success and I wish for even more people to discover what a great and luminous person he is. Jimmy Kimmel is a terrible interviewer when it comes to non-American guests. So much cringe. He epitomizes the typical American character the rest of the world has in their minds.
Tell me about it! As a European I cringe at most of these American hosts, they just perpetuate the stereotype of the American who thinks the US is the be-all and end-all. They think we need American support for success, little do they know there are super famous people across the world that most Americans have no clue about.
A young French actor who has played a number of tragic roles in French film and TV but is hilarious in contrast to his characters when speaking English is Félix Lefebvre.
Don't worry, he is probably funny in English for other reasons, (that he doesn't necessarily control and understand himself yet...) and he is obviously appreciated.
Bravo Omar!
I don’t understand what you mean by insufferable, but at times, I noticed/felt that Jimmy Kimmel subtly try to undermine the actor because of the accent/cultural difference. As apposed to laughing WITH the actor, I saw it as Jimmey was laughing AT the actor, and hoping the audience would join in on the slight mockery for the sake of entertainment. Is this what you meant? If not, what do you mean by insufferable?
You may not have liked what you saw, but in the US, that's going to get him a lot of recognition and if he continues to grow then that beautiful story you're talking about would eventually come out because of the growing interest.

They think we need American support for success, little do they know there are super famous people across the world that most Americans have no clue about.
Am just sad that he's not enough comfortable yet in English to be as hilarious as he is in French.

Honestly!!!
My God. I had legit second-hand embarrassment throughout the interview. SMH.
Indeed. I thought I was alone in thinking that after watching this.
I used to like Kimmel so much, but I would have to agree with you, here. This interview was quite cringe-y. But I really enjoy Omar Sy.

Pls Trevor Noah should interview him next, Jimmy is not so good with international guests. Omar Sy has a beautiful story that needs to be known.
