This reminds me so much of the end of Forrest Gump. When he started running and never stopped for 3 years people started applying their own meanings to it.in reality, he was only running because he felt like so. They believed it had to be for a greater reason, like running for freedom, running for a greater cause, or to prove a point. But it wasn't nothing like that. He was simply running because he felt like it. Couldn't help but remember this video when watching the movie haha.
"The Devil" as tool of dismissal is an interesting observation that I had not thought of that perfectly explains so much behavior from conservative people. good video
I remember walking by marina doing The Artist is Present when i was a teenager and thought she was a model for artists at MoMa to draw. I didnt think about it again until years later when the documentary came out. Fantastic video! I always felt something was off with people's obsessive need to stuff odd content into boxes on youtube and i feel you hit the nail on the head here.
This ended up being way more thoughtful, nuanced, and researched than I expected it to be. Such a shame that a video of this quality doesn’t have more views.
That was very interesting! Nice video as always :) It reminded of game I'm into. About how people's identity and reality are becoming trapped into categories. It was a bit like this: "The mind of humanity is sunk into a layer of sediment. Those who need a reason to exist desperately fly to a light always seeming so near, shedding their colors into a monochrome mess, waiting for their purpose." Don't know if that makes sense, (or even if that's the quote) but still, looking forward for the next one. :3
Thank you for watching Caio! I agree totally, and because youtubers aren't used to building a brand in the same way as an actor with a manager or an agent does, it can be totally disorienting for you and your self of self and how to portray yourself sincerely online, if that is possible.
As someone who was in the “phandom” in 2013, I find the idea of projection and speculation so interesting. To us, that speculation turned out to be “true”. What the phandom subjected them to was absolutely not okay, I just find it so interesting how it affected our relationship to our own conspiracy theories later in life
this video was very eye opening for me, maybe not everything has meaning, and that's ok. it's very hard for me to understand the meaning of some things, or even want meaning or an explanation for things, but now that i know that maybe some things don't have a greater meaning or that the creator's meaning was very simple, is very nice to know. all i wanted to say was that this video made me inspired to want to do more things with my art, i hope you make more videos.
I'm rally happy to hear that! I'm slowly finding that I seem to be making videos about creators burning themselves out, overthinking and whatnot and I'm glad it seems to be helping people! :D
Wow, nice channel! With this video I find myself going back to re-hear something, pause it to think about it, make sure I really got it, and going back to watching. Really deep and profound, somewhat shocking. Subscribed.
People creating their own narratives because it is more exciting or simply because it gives them an explanation for something unexplainable is exactly why conspiracy theories exist. These are just internet conspiracies.
She was studied in one of my course's modules, so her name has always floated around me. I didn't do that module lmao, but ever since I gained an interest in Forced Entertainment and things like it, it made her more accessible to me and to how people experience making art or expressing themselves in ways that are often misunderstood, and it turns out she is quite enlightening! :D
YES! Making a weird video is the EASIEST thing ever. I could make one right now if I wanted to. Just put on a mask, eat apples menacingly and speak in a robotic voice while video game music is playing in the background. Or something. That is just from the top of my head. I probably could make it have some political message or scary story behind it and it would be the same as any other creepy video. I remember thinking, back when these videos were popular, how every single time the reason for these WEIRD and CREEPY videos is probably some kind of an art performance or something. I just didn't understand why everyone seemed to need to know so desperately WHY someone was doing something and if there was no explanation, they would come up with very sinister theories that seemed to always include Satan worshipers or substance abuse as the reason of the video existing. Also people would get very angry and upset if they didn't get answers from the "artist"/troll themself. Anyhow thanks for putting this phenomenon into words! I haven't encountered one other video on this topic yet!
Yeah exactly! I feel a bit of pressure that I've put on myself to make these sort of monolithic, prophetic statements and videos about certain topics and have the audience take my words as something that they have to agree with. Don't get me wrong, you take whatever you do from art, but the way the artist and the audience communicate always seems to get lost in some sort of mistranslation or exaggerated in how extreme my opinion is of something. I just chose to talk about this because I've noticed the proclivity of some people to assume the worst of people when they do something a little bit strange.
@@LiteWrites Not sure if I 100% got what you mean! Feel free to elaborate and correct me if I misunderstood something. Or ignore this, I'm not sure that I'm making a lot of sense here. Sorry! I think the main thing about the attitude of the audience in relation to the artist is that people in general seem to have this need for a "guru" who can give these profound truths about life. And if those answers aren't given willingly, there must be "more" to it. Maybe it has something to do with the human brain needing a task to be completed before it can let go of a thing? Or that we are so scared of the unknown that the brain decides to make us feel uneasy about these videos. I guess for my brain it was always enough to assign those videos the label "performance art" and move on with my day. But maybe even that label invites us to search for meaning in things that don't in fact have any intended deeper message. Hence the rise of the "movie X's ending explained" - videos and the like. I'm my self guilty of watching a lengthy video essay on a piece of media that I don't feel intelligent enough to get. I hate the feeling of missing something in an art piece I'm viewing so I want to know more. But now writing this I feel that I've actually destroyed something meaningful. After all, which is more important? The very intimate and subjective act of experiencing an art piece and finding out what it means to ME or "getting it"?
I was introduced to this concept of existing in mystery w/ John Keats' Negative Capability. Keats considered it integral to writing poetry. NG is one of the few things I learned at college (I had to reread his language a few times, tbh) which makes the destructive debt almost worth it.
What video is this at 7:32 it tickles my brain like im oretty sure i used to be obsessed with the guy who made it a few years ago but now its entirely slipped my mind
Fantastic video!!! Really loving this channel, glad I found it (via your video on Diane) Unsure if you'll end up doing this, cus most people don't event check descriptions anyways, but I'd love if you could include some of the sources / videos you mentioned in this video in the description? so many great clips shown here and while I recognize most, I haven't seen all of them.
I may do! I'm a little bogged down at the moment as I'm currently working on two videos at once, but I think I can at least provide the names of the creepypastas, channels and videos even if I can't find the exact link I used - happy to see you're enjoying my overall vibe though, the scary part of this for me is keeping people engaged for the long haul

I remember having some sleepless nights because of the nightmares, back in the days as a Creepy Pasta Kid™. Very well done, great video!
Hahaha yeah I was a creepypasta kid too, happy appy was a big one for me too!
"The Devil" as tool of dismissal is an interesting observation that I had not thought of that perfectly explains so much behavior from conservative people. good video
I think people say that because this guy's acting mad freaky

Your channel deserves WAY more attention, your videos are great! Your section about Marina Abramović really made me think. Subscribed! :D
Thank you for watching! This may not be the last into this kind of performance analysis!

Agreed!
I've had this in my watch later for quite a while and finally got around to it. This was a very good video essay and I look forward to more.
your channel is severely underrated - subscribed!
This is so amazingly made. The mentions of marinas work were very enlightening

Benjamin is an amazing percussionist
This video is really good. I can't believe I just found your channel. Love it😊👌
This is a fascinating topic! Thank you for this!
Kinda reminds me of the Kuleshow Effect but without the next shot to cut to guiding us as the audience in creating meaning, so we insert our own.
0:19 LIZARD! :D Is it a gecko?
My take on this is he’s committed to exist as a living, walking and talking koan.
thx
