You make me laugh, I always love hearing your views.
I hope your feeling well, I’ve really missed your videos, I suffer from chronic pain, which can make me very depressed at times, but you have been such an inspiration to me. I love to sew and it is one thing that keeps me sane. Just wanted to let you know that your well loved and very missed.

Hi Jay, fun to go through Burda with you. I just picked it up yesterday and thought I might try one of the easier things. I recently did a Burda wrap type T shirt and I struggled with the instructions, so I am hoping this won’t be too challenging!

    • @thecamdenstitch
      @thecamdenstitch  5 лет назад

DEFINITELY start with a nice easy one in Burda. I'm not the sort of sewist who relies on instructions much but they can still be tricksy.

I basically agreed with your impeccable taste! Being the designer you are - you catch things the average does not. It was a definite orange issue. I've never had a Burda magazine but did purchase a Le Maison Victor thru E-Bay - out of date of course.

Your comments about "potato sacky" are spot on. A woman of average proportions would look dumpy in a lot of those clothes. Anything loose and tied in the middle or overly boxy just add width.

    HI Jay!
I am in complete agreement with you on the cape and sleeves business!! I love the way they look, but they are so impractical!! All that fabric hanging about one's arms,-but in the way...not a lot of movement possible while wearing one!! UGH!! LOL!!
The culotte's-I really like, but I think a maxi or midi dress is warmer in cold weather-when you have the wide legs like that--BRRRR...I'm with you on that one, also!!
The wrap jacket, I do like-and even better if it sews up quickly!! The suede or faux suede looks nice.
OOOHH...I love that dress with the pleated neckline-I think it really is quite lovely! Would love to see you make that one!!
I'm with you on the simple blouse with the two part sleeves-strange...I'd change that-lengthen the sleeve-making it full all the way down, then pleat it...so one may as well just use a different pattern altogether-or-draft one!! :+)
The paper bag skirt, I do love those, and wore a few of those --and paper bag trouser's in the late 70's and early 80's, but I also seldom wear skirts any more-I'm more of a dress or trouser/jeans kind of girl.
The dress with the tie-I love that, also. However, I concur-make it two ties, Or make a nice bow!! Make it a statement piece!!
I'm not sure about the hoodie in viscose, I like the way it looks-but not sure to what occasion I'd wear it. Maybe when out shopping?? I don't know....strange. Yes, maybe brunch!!
I do like the long jacket. Cute!
Coat 104-that is very pretty!! I do like that a lot.
I do like the poncho/beach cover up. I think it would be beautiful in a print or like you said- a beautiful emerald green chiffon!!
I love the "boxy" top. I do not wear them often, but do like one in my closet for some things. I do like mine worn with jeans, pencil skirt or leggings-something tighter on the bottom, they look great together!
Not sure about the color blocking blouse, I don't think I would make that-or buy one.
I am not into tuxedo stripes, either-but I did have a pair of velvet leggings that had a rhinestone stripe down the legs like that, those were really pretty. But I do not care for that stripe on that style pant at all!!
I do like the parka-that would actually make a good trench coat.
The jumpsuit-I do like, but I love a nice jumpsuit. Depending on style and fabrication.
The cape coat u showed with the funnel neck is to die for!!
    Gorgeous!!
The wrap coat longer--that is not flattering at all!!
I prefer bell bottoms to boot cut-but will wear a larger boot cut, if that's all I can find. Bell's and cigarette style pants are my favorite to wear.
WOW!! I am so jealous!! If my hair was that curly, I would just love it!! I have pin straight hair-ugh!! You are blessed!!
I prefer your draft of the pinafore style dress to the Burda pattern-to me, that fabric choice they made it with was too heavy-and did nothing for the model, at all!! Make your version!! :+)
Not impressed with the jacket with the hidden placket, or the tunic top.
The pants with the ties at the ankle are sweet!! Make those!! :+)
I do like the grommets on the yoke top.
The rest I don't care for...
I adore Betsey in the box!! So cute!! Is she ok??
    Have a great weekend!! :+)
    Take care.

I have the January Burda and do like the coatigan . I live in a village outside of Woking and near Guildford in Surrey. My local tiny newsagent/post office (about 200 metres from my house) stocks Burda.......result. Love to Betsey. I love your reviews of the Burda magazine each month! I was not impressed with many of the items promoted this month. I did like the culottes though. In Winter, we wear them in suede with knee high boots or a heavy weight wool twill with boots. (I'm in the Northern part of the U.S.A.) They really do keep our legs warm. In the summer, we wear them out of rayon or a light weight cotton or maybe linen and they are very cool feeling. Thanks for the review!!

Hi Jay, I contacted you about a week ago about peppermint oil and I was going to let you know how I got on with the sleep deprivation......, Since putting a dab on the back of my neck I can say that I have had a significant improvement. I have been also diffusing lavender and chamomile oil whilst I sleep. I hardly wake now maybe twice rather than every hour on the hour. Hope this helps and hope your well at the moment. Hi there, I’ve just found your channel and enjoyed the vlog. I had recently purchased the Burda magazine and was very disappointed. The nesting of the pattern pieces just did my head in. I liked the “origami” top, but there’s no way I can sort out the pattern. Is there a knack I’m missing or is it just me ? In Burda Easy magazine the patterns are individual, but I can’t seem to get it over here. I’m looking forward to your next vlog and I’ve subscribed 👍😃

Yay burda review!! Firstly love your outfit looks very chic and warm! I agree not the best issue but I did trace off the dress with the neck tie and the dress with the flap at the neck as these are office wear for me of course made in dull navy or black fabric 😒 hoodie for the office burda u crazy. Yeah not sure what this activewear theme is all about. Look forward to the next issue review much love xxx

The Camden Stitch agree and the instructions for sewing the flap are the typical vague burda so think it will be a wee bit of a head scratcher. May call for two cups of strong tea before I attempt it. The previews of next months burda look rather dull but there are one or two things which maybe of interest

HI! thanks for the video! You almost perfectly voiced my opinions of this Burda issue. I bought (forgot why, i think because of those cardigans? jackets... lol) that viscose hoodie? whyyyy? serves no purpose, just protect from the sun, in summer, i guess. Not anything to do with winter :( and the other blouse with a wavy stripe on the sleeve? looks cheap and poorly made at home. :( the top/blouse with that seam/pleat on the sleeve, at around the elbow, i thought it's supposed to be a peep-hole to expose the arms a bit o.o Kind of weird, but they chose a really nice fabric for it. For some they chose really nice fabrics, and for others they really messed things up. Luckily, we can choose whatever fabric we want to create our clothing. That low/high top, i see it nicely done from fabrics of different colors -just the same type of fabric. it would not be for every-day wear, though, but more for some more special occasions? ;p

I thought your review was very kind. I mean .. it was bad enough living through the worst of the 80's/90's styles the first time. Those (mostly) boxy boxy shapes, the big messy hair, the uninspiring prints, the depressing colors. Blech. I think they took the big shoulder pads out of the way back makes and called it done. TFS 😻

Per your request, I subscribed. I like your saucy attitude. Burda is my least favorite of the "big" companies. I like fabrication/presentation of the sample that can be compared to the line art/pattern diagram so we can tell what the damn thing is supposed to look like.

I agree, the model does look like Gabby.
The tuxedo stripe in trousers always takes them down a notch. I'm not a fan of this kind of stripe in pants or sleeves, not even in tuxedos. No hoody for the office; fabric can do a lot but not in a hoody.
I don't think having opinion is being mean, it's being real.

Many of the garments had no color at all and they were really style-less, rather than stylish. Thanks for sharing though. Your videos make up for the lack luster magazine!!💖

Pretty much not inspired, especially with the stripe up the side of the pants. They look like track pants.
