Dresses look fab! Have you thought about swapping out the big black buttons on your houndstooth dress for big red ones instead so they’d really stand out and pop but still have that sixties vibe?

I have always been scared of 'fashion' and consequently lagged several steps behind. At last, I have the confidence to make only garments I believe will make me feel good - and yes, I will unpick repeatedly until I'm happy. That last push through negative feelings is worth the fab feeling at the end.
I'm so glad about your positive feelings following your hypnotherapy. You deserve it!

We did have a very nice coffee and very nice chat ☕️☕️ ! Kings Cross is a great venue and I was pleased to discover the Everyman cafe with you. The black/white sweater dress looked great .... I love the other two and that cute pinafore. I definitely think it's worth getting a garment to fit properly if you want to do multiples . So much more satisfying 👌

Hi Jay! In regards to tweaking a pattern and then moving on to the next tweak project, enjoying the process instead of the product can be quite rewarding. So much is learned along the way and can be applied to each new project, ie, skill building. If a pattern really inspires you to make duplicates, that’s great, but a one and done is valuable too. Sincerest condolences to you both on
the passing of your loved one.

Yupp, totally would make all the adjustments. I am probably making it harder on myself when I do that, but I so want to love my makes, not just accept them. My obsession is shoulder/sleeve and trying to find the perfect sleeve head to sleeve scyth that lets me make woven blouses that do not feel restricting on my broad and wide shoulders.
I am also trying to do the make it perfect then make many versions. But I often do not have the fabric ready. Then when it sits for awhile, I may have forgotten all the fixes or why I changed the pattern. SO I am trying to make better notes this year,

I have been in a bit of a slump lately myself. I have had problems with fitting myself, it seems like everything that I make is either too small, or massively too big. I just can’t win,I am looking around for classes on pattern drafting thinking I might could get a better fit that way. The result of this is I am taking a break from garments and making home dec stuff, baby bibs, blankets and other non garment things. Maybe I can learn to fit myself soon. So glad to hear your therapy is going well, I think that is key to success, you have to at least not hate it.

I agree that once you have finessed a pattern make it up numerous times and that way the time spent on refinement is reduced per dress. I made 19 dresses in 2019 and 11 of those were using my self drafted TNT bodice block. Love the big chunky casual dresses but unfortunately I can't wear them as I end up looking even more humongous than I am. I try to make dresses to give me a more defined shape and I need all the help I can get! Caroline R-G 😍

I liked this video alot! Even though there was sorrow in the family, you seemed to cope with it pretty well and were able to sew up the lounge pieces. They turned out so well and are very cute! The pinafore you made looked just like Twiggy except she wore hers straight up and down, no A line at all. I think the adjustments are a good idea and will flatter your figure well. I do adjustments all of the time. The pattern, in my opinion, is a general outline of the piece. In order for it to look good on each person, adjustments need to be made so it looks it's best on each one of us. Wishing you continued success!

Hi, sorry about your post Christmas problems. Ian really is a treasure, aren't we lucky when we have a caring partner. I love your videos, so interesting. If your hypnotherapy makes you feel happier then it is working. I know the feeling that when you started going to the gym you thought, I will have to make some garments! That is the first thought that I have whenever something happens in my life! I am sewing madly at the moment because I am going to Spain for a long weekend in February for a friends 60th birthday. We lived in Spain for 10 years and have many friends there so go out regularly and my thoughts are always 'what shall I take'. Not because we try to outdo each other with our cloths but because I like to look the best I can for my age and my style (not fashion). The fashion course sound fantastic, it will be great for you, your talent will shine. I look forward to hearing all about it and the ideas that you will have. I won't rabbit any longer, looking forward to the next vlog. (Yes, I am still behind in watching!)

All the v best for Friday!! Sounds fabulous. So much in your vlog, these are my favourite type of videos. You have a lot of perseverance with the toiles and fit. I’m less patient and feel frustrated when I do a wearable toile and don’t make the “real” one, the wearable toile is it. I have quite a few like this. The wearable toile are not bad but not that great either -just so so. I like how you make multiples, each special with style. I like making a few of each pattern but like the deliberate-ness of your approach. Yeah those adjustments to the pattern you aquired will rock it I reckon. I admire your investment in the gym, you talked about it in an earlier blog, I will get my act together this year too. There I said it. He he go girl.

Hello 👋, great vlog, your vlogs are much more personal, which is GREAT!! You’ve opened up more and become more humble and it’s a great beginning of healing, others (like me) can pray for you, and send you well wishes!! We care about you or we wouldn’t be following your vlog!! So thank you, your sewing is amazing, you describe your process beautifully and I look forward to seeing you regularly, (no pressure there!) 🤦🏻‍♀️ your 5 ideas of fixes for the blue dress are spot on, 1 question... the reason the back has a “fin” is it because your back is narrow and the fabric “fins” out? It really nice looking now, but after your adjustments it’ll be perfect!! And I’m so happy to hear about you going to design classes!! Another way for you to exercise your design “energy”!! This will be SO good for you!! Thanks again for sharing a part of your life with me ❤️😍🙋🏻‍♀️😆

Hey Gina, so nice to hear from you, and thanks for your kind compliments about my growth as a vlogger. TBH vlogging is something I have found hard, I don’t have a problem putting myself out there but I’ve found it hard to speak eloquently, so many pauses and stumbles. I'm also not sewing much these days. It's been a few weeks actually. For me, it all got a bit overwhelming because i'm a newbie and my old machine was acting up and 3 projects in a row ended up not fitting great on me. And i realized that pretty much every pattern will need some adjustments. Which i'm okay with because that's why I sew! But because i don't know how to do them it just feels like a mountain sometimes. Adding the stress of family at the holidays and i ended up putting my machine to the side on the table. She's staring at me every day :D Sew-jo is not lost here either and i'm feeling more inspired after having found some great second hand bedding i can use as fabric.

Love your dresses, how would red buttons suit the oversize houndstooth check? I’m no fashionista but I’m pretty sure you could rock that look. Edited to add sincere condolences to Mr Iain, such a difficult time for both of you. xx

I could write masses in response to this, agreed with everything you said. Instead I'm going to keep to a thank you for making me feel better about 2 muslins I've just made. It seemed that 3 cm drop for a bust dart was me doing something wrong. And I need to make the neck narrower without losing width at the bust. No shoulder adjustment necessary as I'm tall. And I'm making a similar pinafore, although mine is more of a tunic. Phew, relief, bless you.
Also I want to make garments that fit well, rather than go for quantity, especially as the fabric that I'm using at the moment is a wool length that my mum gave me over 30 years ago and she died in 2008. If you are going to show how you make adjustments, I'll be glued. I don't need to see you sewing, much more interested in seeing your construction techniques. xx

    • @thecamdenstitch
      @thecamdenstitch  4 года назад +1

Ah, glad I could help you feel not so alone with it Ann, especially for this special piece of fabric. The more I sew, the more I realise that fitting is a separate but necessary art to learn alongside your construction techniques - if you want anything that’s wearable, that is! I have filmed some footage of adjustments so I’ll try and edit it together - I’m in no way an expert thought. My favourite resource for well-explained adjustments is the Curvy Sewing Collective blog. Good luck! xxx

Heh - I've been facing exactly the same issue of creating a pattern, sewing once (or half-finished) then onto the next design/fitting challenge. Rarely anything to actually wear. Having realised what I was doing I'm focusing on a perfect fit and then small variations on the same pattern.
I have a denim waistcoat that looks exactly like the top part of red dress on your Jiffy pattern! Very close fitting; I'm hoping to clone it.
Therapy: I can recommend NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming, daft name) - it deals directly with the unconscious mind rather than dredging. I trained in it, though I don't take clients. Use it on myself all the time!
Sewjo: for me it's usually either a fear of messing up or an inadequate vision of imminent fabulousness. (Sometimes it's just too much brain inflammation.) I work on both simultaneously, look for the fun/reward.
I'd love to see more on your design ideas - your style is wild, love it, would love to see how you get/execute the ideas. I'm a Kibbe Soft Classic so can't carry it off, but this sort of input really helps.

Hey, hello and thanks for your comments! I am familiar with NLP, I did a little through my old job but never had it on me, I will read more about it. And I had to look up “Kibbe Soft Classic”; every day’s a school day!

I find drafting difficult. I tried drafting a simple apron and I cut out 4 versions before I felt I got it right. I've tried to draft other simple items and find maybe I overthink it? Well it's never come easy and I often give up and hack existing patterns to make what I want.
oooh, that blue pinafore is awesome! I really like the button detail. Yes, I would make the adjustments, especially if I wanted to make several garments from the same pattern. Though I wouldn't make so many adjustments to a first make, I feel best in a good fit so why not make improvements when making it again?
I too want to make a few nice fitting tops then make a hundred different versions of them. I don't think I've ever made a pattern twice and I want to take out all more effort and add more joy my sewing. Last couple of years sewing for myself (because of trying to fit myself, by myself) hasn't been so fun and I've routinely lost my sewjo. I need another tactic.
I like your distinction between fashion and style.

Answering your ? - I make adjustments until it fits me or the wearer. On the pockets - just move them up. I really like the blue jumper and it looks like you did a great job. When a knit is labeled 'techno' - what kind is it? Thanks

    • @thecamdenstitch
      @thecamdenstitch  4 года назад +1

Hey Lavada, as far as I know, technical or performance fabrics are designed for a specific purpose, so perhaps they have wicking properties for activewear, hold heat for thermal wear, or are lightweight/waterproof fabric for an anorak.

Great video as always. I'm in a bit of a slow period over my sewing because I don't have any fabric I'm excited about at the moment. I have plans to make a high necked blouse aka Ava Green on Penny Dreadful. I love the sweatshirt dresses, they're so cute. I think you'll knock it out of the park at your college interview. BTW, do you mind telling me what editing software you use? Thanks! Catch you on the flip side.

I understand your wanting the fit perfect-I would tweak it, then make another one with those adjustments. I think you could just raise the pockets, if you chose to. Cute pattern.
Could you refresh my memory on the "Burda" pattern number(?) those are darling sweater/sweatshirt dresses you made?? I could see the buttons on the black and white print-I thought they looked great!! I like all your "makes"!! :+)

I very much enjoyed your little chatty video 😊 And I love your pinafore dress! You should definitely make those changes to the pattern, it would make you feel proud of yourself and it’s such a good and versatile pattern! I made myself a pinafore dress or jumperdress or whatever you call them from Newlook 6340. It’s probably more meant to be a dress but I saw the potential for a jumperdress. I made it in a red tartan check that I’ve had in my stash for a long time. If you would like to see me in it I’m on Instagram as Byjuliannie 😊 Thanks for sharing your sewing and your thoughts, you inspire me with your personal and colourful style 😘

Hi Jay, you can use a basic pattern that fits you well or your block/sloper to make pattern adjustments before first toile:

I’ve only managed to start this recently but I’m finding it gives really good results. Love your channel btw!

I am in the same camp as you when it comes to fashion and style as you are too. If you are after some great active wear patterns may I suggest Greenstyle Creations. Now, I know you are not a big fan of indie designers BUT you will love their patterns, and I recommended them to Rachel of Stitched Up and she loves them here is their link: www.greenstylecreations.com I also hope that Betsy in feeling better too.
