  • On today's podcast, Ashley Thompson and Dan Novak host the show. Ashley tells listeners what they will hear. First, Caty Weaver and Faith Pirlo have a story about Louisianna's Creole culture. They relate the opinions of several people who are Creole. They note that the definition of Creole changes from place to place and over time. Creole is a mixture of French and English and the culture has distinct food, music and other activities. Then, John Russell has a story about a group of women in Mexico who pretend to be Catholic nuns but, who grow marijuana as a business. The women, who conceal their identity, are part of an international group and use the internet to sell the drug.
After that, Bryan Lynn reports on some of the biggest space stories of 2023. One was NASA's recovery of rocks from an asteroid, which scientists can now study. NASA also launched a spacecraft to another asteroid called Psyche and recently tested a communication system that used laser technology. Space scientists also claimed to find the oldest black hole ever found. Among several other discoveries, NASA continued testing its helicopter on Mars; India landed a probe on the moon; and Chinese scientists announced a discovery about possible water on the moon. Finally, on Lesson of the Day, Andrew Smith and Jill Robbins talk about workplace terms used in Let's Learn English, VOA Learning English's English teaching series.
Then Ashley and Dan sign off.
