Prior to getting married in my early 20s, my life back home was about going to mass as much as possible, youth group, rosary every single night but never by choice. In fact, I hated the fact that my dad had a small bell he would ring every night when it was time to pray the rosary. He would pray for everyone and anyone before we started the rosary. That in itself was almost longer than the rosary. When I got married, I felt liberated. I went to church only when I felt like it and I never prayed the rosary. After about 20 years of being married, one day I had this strong need to go to church. I walked in and as soon as I smelled the church, that familiar and beautiful scent, remnants of the wonderful incense smell, my eyes were filled with tears. I then asked myself where had I had been, why had I left something I always loved and needed so much, whether I admitted or not. I cried so much that day. Maybe God was asking me that himself. I pray the rosary everyday now and go to mass on Sundays and on obligation days. God is so patient and so merciful. What a beautiful blessing.

My parish uses incense every Sunday Mass, and I have always appreciated the holy scent around the church. I wear a veil at Mass, and recently realized that the drawer I keep them in (I have several) now smells like the Church! I love it!

Hi guys, I’m from Ireland 🇮🇪 and my dad died over 21 years ago so my cousin who was a parish priest in Liverpool came to Ireland to celebrate his funeral Mass! And he always thought that Irish priests were very stingy with the incense so just before the final commendations he put a shed load of incense into the Thirable and when he was done incensing the coffin he handed the Thirable to the altar server who was severely asthmatic and with all the smoke she ended up in the ER for the rest of the day! Love your show!👍🏻❤️🙏🏻😇🕊! Px

If I remember correctly there are only 2 Masses of the entire liturgical year that actually REQUIRE incense-and both bookend the liturgies of the paschal Triduum-Holy Thursday at the Mass of the Lord’s Supper and Holy Saturday at the Easter Vigil Mass. I wish the church would require it on Christmas Eve/Day at an extra minimum. Personally I’d also use it during the adoration of the cross on Good Friday too.

    • @irishgirlintexas
      @irishgirlintexas Год назад +1

Seems like they would require it. Our parish used it for the Midnight Mass this past Christmas, which was probably a large part of what made it possible to get through the Mass after working all day.

most people do not realize that the Catholic Church is still a fully sacrificial system. if you translate the mass into Hebrew, it is shockingly familiar to the temple sacrifices of bread and wine, of incense, and of the perfect blood sacrifice of the Lamb of God Who takes away the sin of the world. God has a sense of humor too. because the requirement of the torah for a daily sacrifice of bread and wine, incense, and blood sacrifice is fulfilled at every celebration of the mass.

  • @chateaumojo

I love the incense. At our church, an older priest used to get through mass in just over 40 minutes, while a younger priest would swing that censor and smoke the place up. My kids called them Fr. Fast-mass and Fr. Gas-mass. You could tell the protestants by their coughing.

For those people that are bothered by the incensing at mass, I say, “Sit in the back of the church. “
The purpose of incensing and the symbolic value of the smoke is that of purification and sanctification. For example, in the Eastern Rites at the beginning of Mass, the altar and sanctuary area were incensed while Psalm 50, the "Miserere," was chanted invoking the mercy of God. The smoke symbolizes the prayers of the faithful drifting up to heaven: the Psalmist prays, "Let my prayer come like incense before you; the lifting up of my hands, like the evening sacrifice" (Psalm 141). Incense also creates the ambiance of heaven: The Book of Revelation describes the heavenly worship as follows: "Another angel came in holding a censer of gold.

I feel I am being kicked out of the church over incense. I am highly allergic and can not breathe when it is being used. The two churches closest to me use it constantly Even when they don't use it the church smells so strongly I can't barely breathe so I sit in the vestibule. Last time I went to Mass at my church I was told they had to keep the inner doors open, so the incense was filling the vestibule. I was told to just stand outside with the outer door open. So I did. Until a music person told me I had to close the door because the organ sounded better with the doors closed. I tried to talk to the Pastor, but the office staff wouldn't let me. So I was physically kicked out not just metaphorically. I know I am not the only person with this problem!

It deodorizes, kills germs and flies and mosquitoes hate it. I'm not saying that some people may have a bad reaction but I've never seen it and I'm 67. One year, our priest had the brilliant idea of burning the palms for Ash Wednesday on the altar. There was chaos: coughing, sneezing, runny eyes etc. Thankfully this was at the end of Mass.

I burn incense for God every Sunday during our rosary at home. Is it allowed to be used in homes? The topic only talked about the use in churches. Thanks

I read about people using incense with their home altars - but tell me how you do that without setting off the smoke alarm?

I do too. In my case, it’s not the thick smoke trails like in church … a frankincense tear on a coal won’t smoke up an entire house (at least not in my experience).

@user-jg1dq7zr5o comparable to a candle? I have a condo, so if any alarms go off it's drama.

    • @YaYa-ke1zr

I’ve never had a candle produce a lot of smoke. There will be smoke from the frankincense but it’s usually reams/trails not a billowing consistent smoke. I’m told that most churches add other ingredients to the resin in order to produce thicker and longer lasting smoke.
If you use natural authentic frankincense tears you can also guide the smoke away from monitors. I usually walk around with it. Never had an alarm go off. In a condo though, you will need to ensure you follow precautions on the charcoal. In fact, I’d recommend a tea light candle under foil. There won’t be a lot of smoke from that at all.
Bakhoor is a different story though, lol. I’ve almost set off alarms with the tiniest pinch of that stuff.

@user-jg1dq7zr5o I might stick with glade apple cinnamon, then. That's the smell of home prayer for me 😆

Very nice topics but very casually being discussed - too much laughter - this is not a comedy show. When speaking of God and of His holiness it should show in your discussions - educative - reverential - this is not a coffee time program. Some changes please.

Catholicism is the only Christian Faith . They are lead in worship By the Pope The Bishop Of Rome for those People who say the word Pope isn’t in the Bible, who was given the Keys to Heaven From Jesus Matthew 16:15-19 . Through Apostolic succession: Psalm 109:8, Acts 1:20-26 : Acts 6:1-6,14:22,20:28 From Peter the First Pope they worship Jesus, And thru The Holy Tradition Of the Saints formed the Bible , Biblical doctrines, Such as the Trinity, Sunday service, Easter, And Christmas teach Grace alone for salvation, Did not remove books From the Bible but preserved the writings of the Jewish Old testament which the protestants threw out , Catholics want to worship Jesus with all 5 of their senses .
