Akers located my water leak as well, 3 feet under my 100 ft asphalt driveway. The leak was directly below the area that they identified. Spot on! Similar to this video, a smooth/flat rock was sitting under the point where the water line (1 1/4" poly) failed (after 35 yrs of the pipe vibrating and pushing down against this rock). Are builders (WA) now required to surround underground water lines with sand? There is an annoyingly large number of rocks used in the fill material surrounding my pipe

Absolutely brilliant
The unit he is using is from subsurface leak detectors. You can find them online. The best ones are the LD12 and LD18. LD-12 = 3,500 and the digital version is 6,000 = LD-18
I’m trying to find something wrong with this detect,,I have no doubt that the leak was located prior to video, would be very boring otherwise. A leak starts with the basics (water meter, hot or cold, toilets, hose faucets, outside additions, service line stop valves) all that is done way before accusing a 500’ pipe of leaking.
And a visual inspection and sounding of 500’ of water service can be a day 1/2 work.
On the plus side the water pipe was installed as it should have been,,along the side of the driveway, why there is two water pipes in the same trench is confusing, (maybe irrigation but they did not indicate that)

It appears that the leak was already found and marked by that blue-ended tool on the left (which seems gone later in the video). The demo of the sound meter was good.
Mark Wambach hi pressure wash will do that.. its just marking paint
Tell me about leak detection equipment.
I have 10 lb Nitrogen tank is that what you have? Also Turbo-Torch prof. regulator max 600/4000 and 4000/28000 is that too much? I have tank nitrogen hose attached to spigot
adaptor to be screwed on to exterior faucet. What pressure range do i use and is that all there is to it? I assume i would shut-off the main water valve?

Take it you guys dont use Poly Pipe Joiners ?.

Why dont they install the poly pipes inside of PVC, then it can be backfilled with gravel/minus? Then when its due for the poly pipe to be replaced in 20-30 years the old can be pulled using it as a fish to install the new lines. Just an idea.
probably because bldg code doesn't require it and it costs more.
I think outside the box and always make it better than codes...lol
As a leak detector, no. Worst scenario. It's much harder to hear/locate a leak when the water pipe is sleeved with another pipe.

Thank you for the great question! It may surprise you but concrete is actually the hardest surface to locate leaks on using acoustic equipment. Reason being; for the equipment to work best there needs to be solid contact with the ground. With soft surfaces like asphalt, dirt, gravel, ect. they are always in contact with the ground. Concrete, being "Monolithic" can separate form the ground leaving an air void between the surface and the ground.
So what is the possible tools to use if you detect in ingrate floor?
