    Thanks for the video Stephen, yes, please do a comparison between the steel and gold stubs, that would be great. And just an FYI, Leonardo now offers the steel stub in the 1.5 and 1.1, and the gold, as always, the 1.3.

    Thank you for the review... yes please! Let's have a review of the two Stub nib options and perhaps throw in the Momento Zero Grande as a comparison?

    Leonardo pens are my favorite Italian brand. I have a Momento Zero in Hawaii blue and got Furore, same finish that you reviewed with steel fine nib for my wife for her birthday. She loves it. Thank you always Stephen, for the great review.

    I would love a comparison video between steel and gold nib because I just ordered my first Leonardo with a steel nib and I’m thinking about ordering a second pen.

    i just got one Smeraldo Furore too :D i love it so much! I waited so long before the purchase but now i'm happy. I had a problem with the nib but the kind guys of Casa della stilografica just resolved it by send it back to them, and again to me. I'm trying it with diamine turquoise, perfect pair! I didn't find for now any problem writing :)

    Wonderful review. I have four of their nibs, two gold fine, one each steel extra fine and gold medium. All wrote perfectly right out of the box, so I'm saving for a Grande.I want to second your recommendation of Marco, who got me an ebonite Momento Zero when no one else could. I have run out of superlatives for these pens.

    Nice size and shape. I think the material is quite nice but I would prefer a silver tone for metal bits. But that's my personal preference. BTW are you planning on doing a demo of the Leonardo Momento Zero Grande? Thanks for sharing.

    If you are seeking to buy this version, most are selling this model as "Emerald Blue" as opposed to the Italian word for emerald: Smeraldo.

    I have the Leonardo Furore, with a steel extra fine nib, in Emerald Blue, with rhodium trim. I have Jacques Herbin Bleu Austral ink in it, and find the pen to be on the wet side, compared to my other extra fine nibs. Love the pen!

    Stephen great view and I really do like the colour of that pen. A bit bummed that the gold nib wasw not that great, I have two Leonardo's with steel nibs and I find them really wonderful.
    If you can, please do a comparo it would be interesting.

    Gold nib 14k is €217 extra totalling the pen at €395. That's Pelikan M600 / Sailor Realo (which has a 21k nib) territory.

    Generally speaking, what do you gain from using a gold nib when it's a stub?

  • @curtism5333
    @curtism5333 5 лет назад

    I love the Leonardo pens and have two of the Momento Zero's. They look better in the hand than in the photos. They are perfectly sized for me. Extremely comfortable to write with. Unfortunately, my medium steel nib skips and hard starts. The broad nib, also a steel, is fine. A friend of mine has two as well and both nibs were problematic with ink flow. He got one exchanged and even the replacement was hard starting but not as much as the first. So I do love these pens but would be a tad reluctant to get another with the possible nib issues. Thanks for another review Stephen.

    That material looks... it's probably stunning? Depth in the material just isn't communicated by traditional two-dimensional video. But this looks like it may be just as mesmerizing as what's in my Delta Dolcevita. So, yeah, I want one.
    I have a Momento Zero and love it. But I find that I I always grip it higher up, on the threads. I don't normally grip pens that far back, but that's where the Leonardo section feels right to me. And it _is_ comfortable. Heck, I'm going to go ink it up right now.

    I never cease to be amazed by the seductive power of a piece of well polished, pretty celluloid. Am I able to resist the siren call to this Leonardo? - I think I just might. The soul of the pen is the nib and if it doesn't sing, then however pretty the pen, it no longer shines in quite the same way; the lustre is dulled. Come the day when they finesse these Boch nibs, as others have done, then all may yet be lost.

    I love this model and the Momento Zero: I have two of each (in different colors). Although I share your preference for the design of the Furore over that of the Momento Zero as far as looks are concerned, I find the Momento Zero slightly more comfortable to write with, perhaps because it is a few grams lighter in weight.

    I'm honestly puzzled by your enthusiasm for a pen that skips. The best you seem to be able to say is about it is that the nib is "usable" and that you've seen expensive pens that weren't even that. I agree, the material is gorgeous, but a pen, above all, needs to write well, no? Why the gushing review for a pen that clearly doesn't perform that well? This is not meant a hostile comment, I'm just sincerely puzzled. Nice to hear the old chant again!

      Sven-Erik Rose I think a little bit of dryness is not that unusual in the pen world, particularly with broader stubs. So you can still rate a pen highly while accepting the one (fixable) shortcoming at the price. I think their steel nibs are so good that I wouldn’t consider buying a gold nib for one second.

    • @sbrebrown
      @sbrebrown  5 лет назад +1

      @@sven-erikrose5732 I agree with Mark: yes, there is SOME skipping, but the pen clearly writes. I have used pens that cost 10 times what this Furore costs and those pens did not write at all. So in my mind, this minor skipping is not a huge deal. Having said that, it would be much preferable if pens came out of the box writing beautifully, but then again, it would be preferable if there was world peace too. Of course, everyone's opinion is different: some people would find any pen that does not write 100% perfectly unacceptable. I've accepted that most modern nibs require tuning, irrespective of brand or price. I'm sure there are people who would find that unacceptable and that is a fair argument: I would much prefer each pen to be perfect too :-).

    • @sven-erikrose5732
      @sven-erikrose5732 5 лет назад

      @@markdbenson75 Thanks, that makes sense. I still think it's a little odd, though, to heap praise on a pen that doesn't write well because the flaw is fixable. I routinely tune nibs to my liking, but a lot of buyers actually don't feel comfortable doing that, and for approx. 150 euros, I think they should be able to expect a pen that writes well without them having to fix anything. I feel it's the company's responsibility to tune the nibs they sell so their customers don't have to. Excuse the mini-rant, just my 2 cents.

  • @nottooherbal

    I'd be annoyed to spend over £100 on a pen then find the nib needed to be worked on. Luckily there are a lot of extremely cheap, well made pens that work exceptionally well 'out of the box' . I'm baffled why anyone would spend more than a tenner.
