    Love to see some appreciation for San's vocals! He really doesn't get enough of the credit he deserves. And yeah he's definitely not utilised that well in their songs, I'm not 100% sure why. You can hear more of his skills in their slower songs/b-sides but I still wouldn't say there's a crazy amount of it, and title tracks are the ones most people will know so I really wish he'd get to show off his vocals more in those🥲 Well I guess we'll see what happens in the upcoming comeback👀

    I definitely recommend - Be with you, Mist, Turbulence.
    San's voice is like an angel. He works so hard on everything he does, whether it's singing, dancing, performing, education. He is always striving to be better. San is the definition of masterpiece and to top it off, he has the most precious soul and loveable character. My absolute favourite human ever!

    Most of the slow songs are b-sides... Be With You, Mist, Star1117 for example. Slower songs with MVs: Turbulence, Utopia, maybe Aurora.
    San is such an underappreciated vocalist. People see his dancing and stage presence, but he has an absolutely beautiful voice.
    If you want to hear San take the lead vocal you should check out the San/Wooyoung/Yeosang unit song IT's You.
    San actually struggled a year after debut because his voice actually dropped quite a bit, which caused him to strain on the higher notes. San was considered a bridge between the rest of the group and Jongho's extreme highs. He said he had to retrain his voice to continue to reach higher notes in a safer way. (He actually has a fairly low speaking voice now.)

    • @emmylia
      @emmylia 6 месяцев назад +3

      Utopia's slow in some places but it's definitely still an upbeat song. It's a good song to hear more of their vocals though!
      Edit: also I second the IT's You recommendation!

    • @mufuu0
      @mufuu0 6 месяцев назад +9

      San said his singing voice changing was NOT because of changes through puberty, but because he was singing outside of his natural range in order to be the bridge between the other vocalists and jongho. What he was able to do then was not natural for him, but since then he has mastered a wider vocal range. He still sings those songs which are quite high and still masterfully hits high notes.

    • @timemachine5641
      @timemachine5641 6 месяцев назад +6

      Eden is to blame for San almost losing his voice in the early days. Basing every song around Jongho was a stupid move. If San didn’t already have the natural singing talent that he came to KQ with, remember he was originally supposed to be the main vocalist before Jongho got there, the story would’ve ended differently. He was well aware enough to catch it and correct it, and then become an even stronger vocalist after it. That takes skill. And otf8kes better not use this as another tactic to diminish him as an artist like they’ve tried to do with his dancing.

    If you want to see san's vocals and ateez members' vocals as a whole i recommend Turbulence, Take me home, Mist, Star1117, Dreamy Day, Be With You, etc. In Mist, San is supposed to sing the main chorus but he gave his part to his best friend Wooyoung and took the intro part, cuz wooyoung wanted the chorus and practiced so diligently for it. Both of them get to shine! Take Me Home performance is a must-watch! The utilization of mirrors and the storytelling in the performance is immaculate. Also New World performance where you'll see San and Jongho's perfect harmonization.
    As another Atiny said, he's supposed to be the bridge in vocals between jongho and other members but he struggled a lot cuz of his lower tone. He said he got blood coming out of his throat and almost developed vocal nodules! So he had to retrain and now he's reached this point. On stage, he focuses a little bit more on performing, like he doesnt sing some parts, as in he literally dances harder and doesnt lip sync. But when he sings, he's so stable and it's filled with emotions. Seonghwa and Yunho are also known to be extremely stable vocalists.
    ALSO haha, if you want to be surprised more by ateez, i highly recommend Yeosang's Hug Me cover. He's the one with the very deep voice in Halazia. He's one of the members who gets less lines. He's getting more lines in the previous cbs tho.

    san is the lead vocalist and initially his job was to sing in a middle range (?) between jongho and the other members. he often had difficulty singing out of his range and even developed a fear of singing when ateez was in their earlier days bc he had a lot of responsibility to sing outside his range and was afraid he would mess up. he had throat difficulties and a nodule scare (throat bleeding) but thankfully he overcame it and is more comfortable with his range - hence why his tone sounds a bit different between now and in their earlier music. for instance, nowadays when ateez performs "stay" from their 1st album, san has to adjust his tone because he originally sang that in a higher tone than what he's comfortable with now. however, i think it's very impressive because i think now his range is even wider than it was at debut - he can still do falsetto but in a much healthier way. i also think naturally his tone, even when speaking, has gotten deeper. he said in a live that he likes his tone now and that difficulty with his vocal cords allowed him to become a more skilled vocalist and take care of his vocal cords now. i really wish they would let him show off his vocal skills more in ateez's music because he has the markings of a great vocalist. i've always said san sings with his soul and this cover is proof of that! it's not a surprise he used to sing in his church's choir. a lot of the time people know him more for being the 'stage genius' of kpop that they forget to appreciate him as a lead vocalist. san has been singing since he was a kid and he auditioned as vocalist, so i really hope he gets more recognition because singing is something he really loves

      Thank you!! I was about to explain this all as well. New people discovering Ateez tend to look over San’s vocals not knowing that is main position is Lead Vocalist. While, yes, his stage presence is amazing, his vocals are even better in my opinion. I think that is one reason I love their softer b sides. Because you hear their voices more.

He truly knows how to deliver emotion and make the audience connect to the song with his voice and interpretation. Glad you enjoyed it and let's hope we can get more vocal parts in future releases :)
    As for some recomendations where you can get a better look at Ateez's vocals: Turbulence (I recomend the live version from "it's live" channel), utopia (it is an upbeat one but very vocally-focused), promise, be with you, star 1117 (i recomend the live version of this one too), better, still here, dreamers, limitless, take me home, mist... and to add a personal one where san's shows how well his voice goes with r&b: It's you (it's a unit song with wooyoung and yeosang).

    The problem is that the producer they’ve been working with, Eden, is unprofessional and has had no formal training. He has modeled every song after the main vocalist and the main vocalist doesn’t even have to audition for parts like the other 7 members do which is unfair. San has the most versatile and soulful voice in the group and along with the main vocalist has the best technique. That’s why he’s their only lead vocalist, but for whatever reason, Eden never lets him utilize it to the fullest unless they’re singing cover songs.
    San’s fans had been asking for an official cover for YEARS (this is the only one so far) meanwhile other members have gotten multiple. He came into the company as a vocalist with a church choir background and as a composer but to this day we still don’t have any original compositions written by him. Eden only allows certain members to express their artistic abilities and San hasn’t been one of them. Given his vocal skill set he’s been treated the worst by Eden.

      @@EXPECTATIONSSHATTERED Kpop fans in general like to sugar coat things and will often pamper members that don’t have much talent. Atinys are no different, and I’m sure a lot of reactors are aware of this which is why they say things fans want to hear. I can tell by this video that you mean what you say.
      San told us a couple weeks ago for the first time ever that because of the neglect of the vocal teachers at KQ, he almost developed a vocal nodule within the second year and was bleeding from his throat because Eden always had him singing outside of his range in order to bridge the gap between Jongho’s extremely high range and the rest of the members. Thankfully, San had had training prior to joining the company and was able to catch it before things got worse, he changed up his vocal style and now he’s an even stronger vocalist than he was when the group first started out.

    San's sincere personality shines through so strongly whenever he sings. I can understand though, in a group of 6 strong vocalists, the songs are maximum like 4 minutes long so trying to share the stage as such in such a small time, i actually thought that San gets a lot of airtime in songs because he is so versatile. • @mufuu0
      @mufuu0 5 месяцев назад +5

      As the only lead vocalist he SHOULD be utilised in title tracks. And if you are a fan you know what those sound like, including the bsides where they underutilise him. The earlier albums are a different story. Also underutilised doesnt always refer to the length of time the vocalist sings, but the way in which their vocals are used. That’s why the word “utility” comes into play rather than saying we wish he had more lines.
