      But why are the poor parts not progressing as it appears to be? Perhaps there are not equal rights throughout the country - the people appear bright enough. What is missing? Are there elites trying to keep them down? Is there something missing in their education? Why are the kids not in school, is the curriculum no good?

I didn't know anything about this country until I came here, but it would be well possible that I'll spemd the rest of my life here. Bulgaria ia booming, the 'west' is drowning in decadence.

    Well I'm a NZ/British citizen and have lived in Bulgaria on and off for many years quite some time ago. It's an interesting country. People are quite hospitable, food is great and things are cheap. There are many nice things to see there. Yes, there is a gypsy (Roma) problem in areas and there's very little help as Bulgaria is a poor country as a whole and corruption exists. There is underlying racist attitudes towards the Roma people by many.
    This documentary is a little bit negative because this does not reflect the true Bulgaria and its people. I feel the people who filmed this should be ashamed of themselves.

    I am so frustrated at what Channel 4 showed of Bulgaria... I can't believe they showed literally the poorest places and called us "One of the poorest European countries", does that mean that Nigel was staying in a hunt rather than a 5 star hotel with everything he can ask of? Because trust me I know it is the second one. If I film England and places like Barking I can therefore say - Look England is poor as f. but we all know that isn't the case, same goes for Bulgaria. The people who wanted to move to England already moved. And one last thing - Gypsies are not Bulgarian, they can't even speak Bulgarian properly, so why on Earth are you filming them?!

    • @bobi6191
      @bobi6191 9 лет назад +6

      Kristiyan Krastev As far as I'm concerned they are Bulgarian, they have been there for generations. I also doubt you can find an area which is that bad in England. At least they try to take care of all the people in their country. I'm pretty sure you are from Sofia, only someone from our snobby shithole of a capital, would be inder the illusion that we are not poor. Get your head out your ass, and actually look at statistics.

      @Kris_96 9 лет назад +18

      bobi6191 Im from Plovdiv, and Ive lived in England long enough to know that there are places that are quite shitty... just because they have been there for generations doesnt mean they are Bulgarian...

      @bobi6191 9 лет назад

      Kristiyan Krastev
      Well I have not been around so I cannot really disprove your statement. I live in London, and there obviously aren't any places like that near there.
      I am going to have to disagree with your point that they are not Bulgarians though. They have lived there for generations, their identity is connected to that land. Sure they might not be culturally, and physically integrated, but that isn't their fault is it?
      Also Plovdiv is nice I've heard, if I ever go back to Bulgaria, I would look into living there.

    • @Kris_96
      @Kris_96 9 лет назад +10

      bobi6191 PLovdiv is literally the best place (lol, not a biased opinion... xD)
      There are many places within London that if you look, you'd ask yourself - Am I really in London?
      For the Gypsies, are you in fact saying that by just showing them they are showing every single Bulgarian (as you say - they are Bulgarians)? Because in my opinion if I show the poorest English citizens I am not really showing what England really is, therefore by showing the poorest people and places in Bulgaria, they are biased and bias everyone else into thinking Bulgaria is the shittiest place, they are so poor all will move to the UK, and will make the UK such a nasty place, this was ofc done (the video) because they wanted to show his point because it was obvious not that many people will come to the UK, as they already did anyways...

    • @bobi6191
      @bobi6191 9 лет назад

      Kristiyan Krastev
      I can dispute the point that there are areas of London that bad, there are areas which are bad yes. But noting like what you can see in Bulgaria.
      As to gypsies, yes they are Bulgarians, but no, it's not fair to generalize a country by showing it's poorest parts. I never suggested that. It just seemed to me that you were suggesting that we are not a poor country, which inst true. Farage is not fairly representing Bulgaria by doing that, but we should not say problems don't exist ether. If you were not saying that than it's fine.

  • @nikolalalev732
    @nikolalalev732 8 лет назад +58

    I respect Mr. Farage. He is honest and he spoke bravely against the bureaucracy of the EU in their parlament.
    However, as a proud citizen of Bulgaria, I can assure you that here only the bad parts of our country are shown. Facts are facts - the roma community are poor, but they find their home here. We lead spiritual life and enjoy our nature and history. That's something no amount of money can buy. In a future with true values, our country will be reborn once again.

But it is perfect for the richest. the gypsies receive a lot of help and care from the system because when the time for election comes they are easy votes. 50% of the gypsies cannot talk proper Bulgarian and 75% can't read or write. They sell their votes for 2 hot dogs and 10 euro.

    To be honest, many immigrants who come over find work far below there qualification levels, the job market in the UK is pretty competitive. I'm British but am fed up with bigotted British opinions, everyone is a closet hurray Henry. I will in the future be emigrating to Bulgaria, I think the country has many assets that not many other places share. The tranquility of the country, the untouched natural areas, Sofia's nightlife (best nightclubs I have been too, so plush), low taxes, I could go on. The UK is a land where corporate governance rules, therefore absolutely no untouched natural places exist, if it can be exploited it will be. Goes for people too.

    • @BlunderCity
      @BlunderCity 9 лет назад +4

      I made the move away from the UK 3 years ago but I chose Romania. If you can find a way to make at least 1000 euro a month, you'll be living really well. With the 1500-2000 euros a month I can earn in Romania, I have a lifestyle I could not even dream of in Britain.

    • @bobi6191
      @bobi6191 9 лет назад +2

      gfbutters1 Yep, I personally know 3 higher education graduates who work as house cleaners in Britain. Sadly there is not opportunity in Bulgaria for higher education graduates, at least no where outside of Sofia, so they are literally better off working as cleaners, than trying to pursue a job in Bulgaria, which is just sad.

    • @gfbutters1
      @gfbutters1 9 лет назад +2

      bobi6191
      Yeah it is sad, but they can earn less than in the UK in Bulgaria and have as luxurious a life mainly because the cost of housing is a fraction of the amount. There are jobs outside of Sofia that pay 1000euros a month that aren't hard to find. In Veliko and Varna there are call centres, and there is industry in other places like Plovdiv, Ruse and quite a few other places that require skilled workers and pay enough for a comfortable life. Cleaners might be able to earn £300 a week or so in the UK, but rent, food, bills and social costs will make that seem a difficult existence.

There was many issues with communication. Many couldn't speak English well, and some not at all. How did they get a pass in the interview??? I'm asking because the amount of extra hours i had to do in the short amount of time, because of orders being packed wrong (we used a voice order system, so speaking English should have been essential) was unbelievable. It’s healthcare is better and more affordable. It’s beautiful scenery is breath taking and it’s people are largely welcoming and friendly. There are more people in the U.K. that are British that I would wish to stay away from than in Bulgaria. If I took somebody from bulgaria to visit all the worst areas of Britain. I wonder what they would say. Britain has a lot to offer an a country but don’t diminish another country and what it has to offer its tourists and people.

    First of all, sorry for my english. I am young not experienced student from Slovakia but if we look at the real thing. Do you know how many Slovaks left slovakia to work in Germany, Austria and other near countries to work there? Do you know how many of us are already working in Ireland and UK ?? And not only us, we are small nation. But Poland .. many people from the middle class from the working middle class are leaving country because usually there is agency, which can offer you work without any need of ability to speak english. Many students from Slovakia,lot of them are leaving country to study in Northern Europe and UK, these educated, qualified people, but this is only minority. Have you seen problems with slovak and czech gypsies in the UK, and Belgium? How big problems and criminality is in areas of Genk and Gent where they are living? I consider UK as a great country able to survive alone able to keep high standard of life there and you dont need people like that. I hink Mr. Farage said it correctly, that you should regulate, which people can come to your country and which not. Offer job opportunities for specialists, engineers, clever and smart workers. Not for everyone. As i said before, we are Slovakia really small country, with lack of job opportunities, but even now we have lot of problems with unemployed gypsies, recieving money from the state and doing nothing, robbing normal people houses, fighting small children going to the school and lot of other problems. You should look at the best countries for living now, Sweden, Finland, norway ... how they deal with incoming people, and whats their policy. Even small football player are learning from Ronaldinho Zidan ROnaldo an so. Why not to look to countries, where it really works well. Maybe it is just some act from Brusel to open your boarders, because now they have problems with the same fact, and it can cause the fact that immigrants from belgium will move straight to UK... That is my opinion from my current point of wiev as a young person. I hope I will be more educated and moer experienced in the future and get to know the truth. We will see how the situation will be from January. And finally I am not racist or anything I am just describing facts which are happening. Thank you, good luck and peace.

    It seems that Nigel Farage was right when saying in Bulgaria in April 2013 that the when the Eu opens its borders the Bulgaria people will leave to other EU countries for work. Britain has now about 390,000 Rumainian and Bulgaria people living and working in the UK. Which their home countries can't do without.

    So this is a channel 4 program that is designed to stop people worrying that Bulgarians won't come to Britain. That's not the problem, they can all come if they have the qualifications and something to offer (which obviously not all of them do). People don't leave their front doors open in Britain, same applies to the borders.

    Official figures showed 187,370 Romanians and Bulgarians were given National Insurance numbers over the course of 2014, up from 27,700 during the previous year.
    This represented a 576 per cent increase in the numbers of migrants from the two most deprived countries in the European Union who registered to work or receive state benefits in the space of just 12 months.

The point he made and i think i understood him is that he pointed that no one would really stay in Bulgaria for next generation and like i said he is pretty much kind of right :P.

    And here I read many comments which complain why he visited only Gipsies ,why he didn't show the nice parts of Sofia etc.Guys relax, don't take it too seriously.

    I found it amusing to hear that people were trying to reasure him that Bulgarians would not be coming to his county as if trying to calm him down that a disease wouldn't catch him, we welcomed him with our Bulgarian hospitality regardless if the fact that he was only interested in representing us badly. Hoonestly, he was more interested in the Roma, he talked to those that seemed most desperate for money and then he said well the Bulgarians are discriminating agains them. First of all I have studied ethnographies on the Roma and I have lived in Bulgaria and I agree we do not treat our Roma well, they are a society that has aimed to isolate themselves since they have came to Europe pretty much (they are originally from India) and yes there are some aspects that we need to improve on but saying that Bulgarians are discriminating against the Gypsy community and then discriminating agains both Bulgarians and our Gypsy community just seems pretty wrong to me, not to mention they are already discriminating agains their own travellers - the Irish travellers and the Gypsies they already have. So really, I think the only one, who was asking him the right questions was Lora in the chat show, because he himself is not Enligh and has managed to prosper to his position in England through being welcomed by the country, not welcoming us and making untrue generalisations about us is not right, it is diversity which makes nations prosper and the United Kingdom is the one that should know this best.

What is the problem if a person comes to England, gets a job, learns english, obeys the laws etc becomes a proper member of the society. Ili Qna The government has been running campaigns to demonstrate that the UK is not so desirable as a job market, you may be confusing government programmes with UKIP campaigns. And I am sorry if you misinterpret Mr Farage, but I have paid close attention to his speeches, and the philosophy behind his words, there is nothing worth taking offence to in his words...
      As for the UK, The job market is poor for most young people in the UK, and as much as many economists continue to argue that immigration is good for the economy, and that it creates jobs, they ignore the affect of mass immigration on working class communities, the affect is to disenfranchise them, de-skill them, and take jobs from the younger people who are born in the UK. Mass immigration makes the rich richer, and improves the governments tax revenue it does not however help the working class communities already in Britain, it is a form of Neo-Liberalism, and anyone who argues anti-immigration sentiment is 'xenophobic' or 'racist' is simply trying to prevent people from challenging this form of Neo-liberalism. This issue is not grounded in racism, or a dislike of foreign peoples and cultures, virtually nobody in British politics blames people for wanting to work and live in Britain, but people in Britain are losing their communities, and central and local government favour migrant workers over native workers.

      Bulgarian-Slavic-Cyrilic alphabet which originates from Bulgaria during the First Bulgarian Empire in 9th century AD by Bulgarians
      England-created in the 10th century
      Bulgaria-created in 632 AD but if we count ancient Thrace as Bulgarian since Bulgarian DNA is mostly Thracian than Bulgaria is a country from AT LEAST 460 BC but it is possible that there were Thracian countries in 2000-3500 BC.

    I'm just finding this video. I'm disappointed that they were only poor people shown- they didn't show any rich people. Also- not any monuments of culture .. like the tracian treasure- we have also other magnificent ones /and not only some left from the communism/. Somehow a person continue staying with negative image in mind about Bulgaria after this video. Also- they are so much more beautiful places into our nature- why wasn't they shown to him? In fact- I quite disliked his speach and talked even talked negatively about him... but.. it's a positive thing that- he stayed behind his words and actually came here to check/prove his point. I felt kind of bad for him, when he wasn't welcomed, but as a bulgarian- he made my blood boiled. I still dislike him, because of the things he said. You know- people would go there /to England/ to work (and not only to stay {without actually working} on benefits) if they ever go there. And I don't mind England protecting itself from all immigrants- but as I said in my previous comments- FROM ALL immigrants and not only closing itself for bulgarians. That would have been discriminating. As you were able to observe, sir- people here really love their country. They are only living it, when they have no other choice, but to live somewhere else or die, so.. please- take your words back! No bulgarian would ever leave if the choice he had to make weren't between life here and death. If you were raised here- you wouldn't either. We are very proud with our nature and the monuments here. Do you know that they are pyramids here also- though made from stones? Why wasn't any of this shown to Farage?

    Im from Kingdom Of Denmark. What Great Britain have done, is one of the best things in West European history.. The EUssr is a terrible mistake, and i want our nation to say goodbye too, in other words, we need an Brexit/EU election aswell. Best wishes to Bulgaria from here. You'll always have our respect.. in or out EU.. it doesn't matter we will support you, also if EU tells you to take illegal arab Migrants. Don't do that! BG/GB/DK

    Of course they wanted to come here. My company are full of them some not even knowing their last names. Some have come from Greece which some go back to Greece every 3 months so they can claim the benefits there as well as here. Life of Riley ✌️🇬🇧

    I'm pretty pissed about this, because Sofia is actually in the top 10 cities in the EU for starting a business, and because of that many uk and American entrepreneurs are coming to Bulgaria. Sofia is actually a very very nice city and it's getting more modern every single day! The only thing they showed about Sofia are the Gypsies (not real Bulgarians) and their ghettos (that are illegal btw)!

    That guy in the suit is being prosecuted for embezzling eu funds, he had approximately 1 million euro worth of assets seized by the government, he's the leader of a gypsy political party. This is an extremely biased report.
