    Went with my mom to the jeweler for a moisanite ring and was very impressed with them. My mom ended up buying a 1.5 carat moisanite ring for 1700. If the ring was a diamond it would have cost over 10,000. I plan on getting a moisanite when I pop the question on my girlfriend and use the saved money on a bad ass honeymoon.

    It sounds like quite a few of these people in the comments are just pissed over their "investment".
    Have you even looked at resell engagement ring sites, or say...even Craigslist? People end up selling their diamond rings for 1/4th of the price they paid because the store won't take it back. Half the sales are from broken engagements, not even that old! Unless your jewelry is made by a luxury, well known designer, NEVER assume it will appreciate in value, no matter what stone it is.

    • @minniebell9664
      @minniebell9664 7 лет назад

      Basically, the average engagement ring does not hold it's value because most of what you are paying is taxes and mark ups. It's only the large and very expensive diamonds and other stones that hold value or escalate in value. Same with jewels that have been owned by celebs. In Australia, there is at least a 45% tax on all jewellery plus at least a 15% store mark up on what you are purchasing so, reselling is very low priced if you break the engagement. The man would be better off keeping the ring and having the design altered if he proposes in the future. It would save money in the long run.

    In terms of optical properties, moissanite looks better than most diamonds.
    The problem (for some) is the color. All stones have a yellowish or greenish hue - the only question is how strong.
    Moissanite needs to be set by someone who knows its strengths and weaknesses. In a yellow gold, solitare setting, it can look great.
    In settings with silver, white gold or platinum, it can look bad.
    ALWAYS buy moissanite jewelry in person (never over the web) and make sure they take returns.

    After thinking about it for a bit...in engineering materials, hardness and toughness are inverted from each other. Basically "hardness" means that the material is very hard, but with this comes brittleness. Toughness is usually a measure of being able to withstand deformation. Therefore the Mois stone is "less hard" (less scratch resistant) while less prone to brittle fracture. A diamond is "harder" more resistant to scratches, but more prone to fracture or chip.

    I don't have moissanite, but I belong to many jewelry forums that talk about their 'moissies' and from what they say, the sparkle lasts forever. You have to watch it, though, because it does weird things in cloudy and rainy weather and I think sometimes in the car.Also, Better Than Diamond uses moissanites for their Amora Moissanites & they say some of the stones they are getting aren't cut very well & they can't use them, hence no more Amora Moissianite for the time being.

    Moissanite still has issues with color. If you don't mind a greenish or yellowish tint, they're OK.
    In terms of color-grading, moissanite is equivalent to a J, K or L diamond.
    To get to a colorless (equivalent to a D) stone, you have to buy a CZ.
    That's why moissanite doesn't do well in silver, white gold or platinum settings.
    It especially has trouble with placed in setting next to other stones like melee diamonds or other stones that clash with the yellow-green hue.

    • @IamGrimalkin
      @IamGrimalkin 8 лет назад +2

      You don't need moissanite in particular. Moissanite usually refers to the gem, but regular silicon carbide has the same hardness at a fraction of the cost. Also note that the Mohs scale an ordinal scale: 10 is harder than 9.25 but it doesn't tell you how much harder.

    • @ValFckGoogle
      @ValFckGoogle 6 лет назад +1

      10 is 4 times harder than a 9.
      With that said, diamond is roughly 2-3x harder than moissanite. It's not bad at all.

  • @MacTX

    2:05 I guess that's no longer true? When this video came out, Moissanite wasn't too readily available or known and was roughly 10-25% the cost of a diamond, now in 2021, it's widely available and you can get Moissanite for as low as 1-5% the cost of a diamond.

    Lady's this add was made for you carefully. Great facts and information and diamonds, moissanite and cubic zirconia. (Or CZ) The psychology use is potent.
    The video is very miss leading. Moissanite is a superior gem except for one quality and that is hardness. Diamond hardness is 10, moissanite is actually 9.5 not 9.25 in the narration dedicated. Cleverly the advertisement turn the focus of hardness to cubic zirconia that has nothing to do with the comparison of MOISSANITE & DIAMONDS. The add uses cubic zirconia as a destruction to deferred "hardness" to "toughness". "Toughness" IS NOT IN THE GEMSTONES DEFINITION!
    WHAT IS A GEMSTONES ~
    Gems are mineral that have ORNAMENTAL value. MOST GEMSTONES have "3 GUALITIES"
    1. BEAUTY
    2. DURABILITY
    3. RARITY
    Savvy lady's, 20 mineral species may qualify ad GEMSTONES.
    THE VARIETIES ARE:
    1. Vividness of Color
    2. Transparency (clarity)
    3. Brilliance (fire)
    4. Hardness
    For the lady WHOM want to know and enjoy the value of a gemstone.
    1. Color and luster
    2. Hardness (1-10 scale)
    3. Cleavage (The tendency of some minerals to break along one or more regular, smooth surfaces.)
    4. Specific Gravity (Comparing it's weight with the of an www volume of water. To determine the specific gravity of a mineral accurately it is necessary to weird a sample twice: once in the air and a second time while it is suspended in water. The difference between the two weights equals the samples displaces. The specific gravity is then calculated by dividing the weight of the displaced water into the weight of the mineral. This is a delicate procedure that requires special equipment.)
    5. Fractures
    6. Crystal Form
    7. Crystal Systems
    8. Symmetry
    9. Fluorescence (Minerals unseen until exposed to an ultraviolet light (UV) The hope diamond is a vivid beep blue and will turn a bright red under UV lighting. A rear unknown fact.)
    10. Cut and Polished (Craftsmans are responsible for the cut and polishing of gemstones. A remarkable gemstone gem quality rest on the Craftsmans knowledge and skill.)
    After seeing this add. I will purchase elsewhere.

    Limited Warranty ? Lame, my wife's diamond has life time warranty, and most certified diamonds are.
    It looks good, still think diamonds are better. Cheers!!

    I used to work with a dentist who was engaged to a computer engineer. To impress her parents they spent together $75,000 on her engagement ring. It was stunning, huge, I didn't believe it was real. She said after the wedding she hardly wore it and they only bought it to impress her parents, so when they went back to try and resell it, jewelers weren't even offering her half of what they paid. She was so pissed telling the story she said that its the worst investment anyone can make.

      That's crazy... 75k for a ring. If she went to a pawn shop, they'll probably offer her like 10k-20k or smth, maybe even less lol

    @MrXAVIERDB sucks but unless we all have a brother in law or friend in africa who can dig it up to us..there is not much we can do if we want one..business is business..so you always pay un upfee - even hefty ones..oh well..but you can shop smart and find deals..even at pawnshops..

    I love them both, prefer the man mined. Do not like the blood associated with them though. Watch the movie Blood Diamond. But that's the nature of the beast.

    • @deppyliciousness

      Love it, more affordable. Real diamonds carry awful blood with them. But they are so gorgeous. But yes, I love moissanite too! C

    What a thoroughly inappropriate thing to say and for another thing, doesn't have anything to do with moissanite and the info clip. What you say speaks volumes for you and your 'bitch'. If my boyfriend or husband called me, he wouldn't know what hit him when I got through with him.

      It's not a fake diamond. Its a gemstone that happens to look like a diamond.

  • @popplew1

    It shouldn't be this eXpencieve anyway,since it is fake!!.Well you sell it at the price of 10 percent of a diamond !! which tells a lot,right ??
    Just go find a real diamond and compare them with mois for yourself,head to head and see the differance!!!

    Its made in a lab (lab created) in Carolina. Its synthetic, nothing real about it. Cubic Zirconia is also lab created.

      A diamond is overpriced artificially made most of the time too. A real large perfect diamond is unavailable to most due to price. If you have a great income great for someone like you.

      Diamonds are the biggest scam in the history of the world. The diamond industry mines so many diamonds per year that they have to lock the vast majority of them up in vaults just to create the illusion of artificial scarcity. Moisanite however was originally discovered from an asteroid and is extremely rare. My mom just bought herself a 1.5 carat brilliant moisanite ring for 1700. If the ring was a dimaond it would have cost 10,000.

  • @Rozzjd

    Moissanite=fake people
    It`s no better than diamond. The money in the bank is there. Diamonds worth more money with time. They`re a way better investment. ¿ How about 1 ct., G color, VS1 ?
    Diamonds=a check with no expiration date.

  • @enditall727

    Faux "Diamonds".
    Can't trick majority of testers,even some high end multi tester,metal/diamonds/cvd and moisenite.
    They don't beep they say oult loud,14k,Lab,Cuz, Natural and moisenite so there's no mistake.All no matter the price can mess up calibration,but this is pretty easy and it's always been right always.
