unironically it's horrifying. meanwhile the merchant who sold it to him was actually angry that he suggested he would keep it as a pet. also if you agree that mistreating octopus is wrong, then you should probably try to eat less meat & dairy products since factory farming is incredibly messed up. everyone is against animal abuse until it affects their meat & cheese.

This one octopus really lucked out. I live in Korea and thousands of them are chopped up and eaten alive a day (I don't have anything against it nor do I ever eat octopus myself).
Dog meat is considered cruel. It's now only the older generation that eats it and it is most certainly not consumed in Seoul. Mostly country sides. With that said, it is not legalized nor is it illegalized. Most teenage-young adult Koreans have never consumed dog meat in their life. One of my Korean friends actually thought it was a myth until she visited her grandparents in the countryside and saw dogs in crates in the back of a truck.
I guess while somewhat hypocritical, the difference between consuming dog meat and that of other animals stems from the fact that, as species, dogs and us share a strong bond of tens of thousands of years. They're naturally attached to humans-more so than any other species-and in slaughtering them for meat, one is "betraying" a millennia-old relationship.
