I thought Canan did that just for a joke. I never expected the aquarium really took care of Samuel for a month and Korean Goverment sent her to her stepfather, Conan.
Not really a surprise because they knew it would gain a lot of attraction because for one, lots of Americans would fly into Korea just to see Samuel so he became sort of a tourist attraction, and it's just a really funny and stupid how a $1 octopus sold for food was taken care of by a high class aquarium bc an American celebrity saved it,, so more people would come in to their aquarium
but only to sit in the ocean trying to survive for her life hunting and waiting for another mean as small as she is she would be fish food a tall overweight ginger is better than have to figure out how to survive everyday
The Koreans were being sweet and thoughtful. Started off with a joke and they treated the octopus with care. Reuniting the Octopus with her Savior was just heartfelt.
Can you imagine just living your life in a little awful tank, destined for some schlub's cheap dinner, when you're purchased for one USD? And then some tall weirdo saves you, giving you a lifetime of care and food and shelter with the best experts keeping you happy and healthy, and then you live your last days in your benefactor's huge Hollywood studio?
This is amazing. I never expected a late night host to buy an octopus in Korea, donate to an aquarium, and then have the Korean Tourism Organization send the octopus to L.A. You can't find this anywhere else people.
I actually find Samuel's tale really heartwarming. Octopuses are very intelligent and I don't believe they deserve to be eaten raw the way they often are. I hope in her own way she was able to find happiness in the last months of her life.
unironically it's horrifying. meanwhile the merchant who sold it to him was actually angry that he suggested he would keep it as a pet. also if you agree that mistreating octopus is wrong, then you should probably try to eat less meat & dairy products since factory farming is incredibly messed up. everyone is against animal abuse until it affects their meat & cheese.

Conan is such a legend. Not just in terms of tv show hosts but overall. His comedy, his delivery, his antics all wrapped up in a comedic heart. Dudes and absolute gem. And also ps…all other hosts are straight trash.
At around the time of this shoot, the aquarium (which actually had kept samuel on display) had a sign that said "Samuel is traveling," so people thought she was dead, but she really WAS traveling.
It was funny when I saw Samuel during my visit. The Korean's were looking at us and Samuel confused; wondering why we were so excited to see a octopus you can buy at the market.
This one octopus really lucked out. I live in Korea and thousands of them are chopped up and eaten alive a day (I don't have anything against it nor do I ever eat octopus myself).
Dog meat is considered cruel. It's now only the older generation that eats it and it is most certainly not consumed in Seoul. Mostly country sides. With that said, it is not legalized nor is it illegalized. Most teenage-young adult Koreans have never consumed dog meat in their life. One of my Korean friends actually thought it was a myth until she visited her grandparents in the countryside and saw dogs in crates in the back of a truck.
I guess while somewhat hypocritical, the difference between consuming dog meat and that of other animals stems from the fact that, as species, dogs and us share a strong bond of tens of thousands of years. They're naturally attached to humans-more so than any other species-and in slaughtering them for meat, one is "betraying" a millennia-old relationship.
Alright, looking forward to the Korean broadcast. Come back to Korea soon!!!! I love Conan for a long time, then I moved to Korea, and turns out he's popular here and loves it too so all I need to complete my life is to eat pizza and Korean bbq with Conan in Seoul. xD
