This would work for simple things but a lot becomes a lot harder or even impossible through this method. Since vms sandbox the operating system performance suffers a LOT and many things become a lot harder or even impossible because of that. Additionally the fact that your input devices have to go through your host OS, the VM program and then be processed again by the sandboxed OS means that there is a lot of quirks and inaccuracies in the inputs, one issue i've noticed there is that first person games have really high sensitivity and become completely unplayable, the lag was also really bad. This will of course vary based on your computer's resources, the program you use for the vm and a lot of other things but at the end of the day for regular usage it's a lot wiser to dual boot it even if it's more mildly difficult in some aspects
