    • @kskroyaltech
      @kskroyaltech  5 месяцев назад +5

      Yes it's very important I noticed it lately, windows sucks In some areas. Bit locker encryption has both benefits & downsides. But for linux people like us it's a problem.
      When the windows drive is encrypted with bit locker, linux installer will fail to decrypt it natively and requires a third party tools to unlock it.
      So, in one word when the windows drive is encrypted, linux cannot access unallocated free space (created earlier) and throws an error. So it's better to disable that feature.
      I guess bit locker is only enabled in PRO editions and business ..

    You will still have the System partition listed when in windows as drive R: (If you named it as R with "assign letter=r")
    So remove R: with;
    CMD.exe (Run as admin)
    DISKPART
    SELECT DISK 0 (If disk 0 is your main hard drive)
    SELECT PARTITION 1 (If partition 1 is the System partition)
    Following will not work:
    ASSIGN LETTER=
    ? ASSIGN (For help)
    So use:
    REMOVE LETTER=R

    Have followed your excellent guide through with a dual boot install of Ubuntu onto a Windows 11 Laptop (HP Elitebook 640 G9).
    In my case the BIOS had to be set to Secure Boot Disabled to allow the install USB drive to boot.
    This "modern" HP bios is very tricky with hardware changes...
    Also the steps you outline to delete the Ubuntu partition and GRUB bootloader worked very well. 5 stars!
    Many thanks.

      @andymkhome6572 3 месяца назад

      @@Abhishekkumar-hh5gk Seems Windows 11 forces a setting in the HP Bios to specify it as the 1st boot.
      What worked for me on a newish HP Laptop with windows 11:
      BIOS setup; Boot Order; Select Windows and change to Disabled. This then forces the bios to run the Ubuntu Grub boot. And if you want Windows choose it from the grub menu.

    You do not want to dual boot win and Linux. Use two different hdds and two different boot partitions. One on each hdd. Do it any other way and you will learn the hard way why I recommend this.

    • @cybernit3
      @cybernit3 5 месяцев назад +2

      When you say learn the hard way; do you mean when there is a big Windows 11 update it will screw up the grub bootloader? Also like you say would make it simplier and less worry of having enough space.

      Windows has very limited partitioning capability, when you choose to shrink a partition, when it meets an unmovable file, it will not shrink past that file.
      Open the Drive Optimization utility in Windows and defragment that drive fully, then try shrinking the partition again, that usually moves the unmovable files and allows you to shrink a larger space.
      If that is not successful, you will need to use a 3rd party partitioning tool like the free version of AOMEI Partition Assistant to shrink that partition

      If you are using a USB drive, recreate the bootable USB using a tool like Rufus (for Windows) or Etcher. Make sure to use the correct settings for creating a bootable drive.
      Ensure your BIOS/UEFI settings are correctly configured to boot from the USB drive. For most modern systems, you should use UEFI mode. If your system supports both UEFI and Legacy BIOS, ensure the settings match the bootable media.
      Disable Secure Boot in the BIOS/UEFI settings.

      You are using the pen drive just to install the operating system. Once ubuntu is installed on your drive then you can remove the pendrive and format it with SD FORMATTER software to make it reusable.

    Does selecting "install Ubuntu alongside other partitions"automatically select the free space we created?

    • @kskroyaltech
      @kskroyaltech  4 месяца назад

      Yes it will see the unallocated space and use it automatically.
      Also, in case you didnt create an unallocated space though windows..... using this option directly allows to shrink the free space within the installer.

And when I choose the advanced option, I am being shown my entire 512 GB SSD as free space and even the Live OS file manager of Ubuntu isn't detecting my SSD. I have turned off Safe boot and all, but none seemed to work. please help...

      It's upto you. If you want to install ubuntu alongside windows 11 on the same drive this is the process.
