Steve has such an extreme level of control, energy coupled with years of developed technique. So much going on these demonstrations. His fluidity in execution has always captivated me!
@@wildmike951 OMG. That's hilarious. You realize that Papa Jo (born 1911) was a pioneer of jazz drumming, was Count Basie's drummer for 13 years, and influenced Buddy Rich, Max Roach, Louis Bellson, and others, right? And that Max was there at the beginning of the birth of bebop as the drummer for both Charlie Parker and Dizzy Gillespie, in addition to playing for Duke Ellington when he was only 18, and playing for Thelonius Monk and Miles Davis, right? I'd wager even Steve would laugh at your comment.
@KirkSandall I know all about these guys. And Steve probably studied them too. But in my opinion as a drummer, Steve Smith is way better than they were. Just like Gene Krupa being an innovator but was totally showed up when Buddy Rich hit the scene. Steve Smith is one of the best All Around drummers ever.
Really masterful. Especially those eighth note triplets (around 1:50) with strokes played against the bottom hat (with either hand!). Curious about these particular hi hat cymbals. 13"? Lighter weight? What make and vintage? Articulate and still sizzle and sing enough.
What a masterclass uauuuuu incredible mr Smith.Congratulations!!!
Best All Around Drummer - he can play it all!

Amazing drummer,
Steve has always been one of my favorites and one of the greatest to ever pick up a pair of drumsticks.
Beautiful work, Steve!
great! Best Hihat-Performace I've ever seen!
Pure awesomeness. Musical and showmanship combined!
I’ve never seen anything like this before! How the F is that even humanly possible?! 🤯
Jones & Roach just got served.
Hell yeah. Jones and Roach were not even in the same league as Steve.
