Finally got my books right. Turns out, it's a lot harder to carve a 1x1 than a 2x2. Been loving watching your videos and the whole YT carving community. Just started on Christmas when the family got me some basswood and a knife. I'm 50 and plan to hike the Appalachian Trail, or part of, with my daughter next year. Leaving wood spirits along 2200 miles from Georgia to Maine is the goal. Thank you Doug
@@mayatuck Of course! I'd just need to know when you're in the area. Hawk is easy to follow unlike some hikers. However, I do understand their apprehension. I knew I recognized your name from somewhere.
Thanks Doug I made one for my wife and couldn't wait to give it to her. She was tickled that I would make something cute and "romantic". Married 41 years, you're never too old to do the little things to make them smile!
Glad to hear you're safe, happy, & healthy. I got worried yesterday not seeing you. ❤️ With no explanation for your disappearance I am truly glad you're doing well.
Thank you so much for your excellent videos. I was given a whittling "kit" for Christmas and this video of your inspired me to make a pair of hearts on an arrow for my wife for Valentines Day. Just finished it and all went well. Hope she likes it, it's our 50th wedding anniversary this year! Keep the videos coming and thanks again.
Thank you Doug Watching your wood carving videos reminds me of my Uncle. He did every thing with just a pocket knife.. He made the ball inside the cage, chains. etc.
Been watching your work since Xmas and did this carving this week. I love what you are doing, sent a coffee donation as I would like to see more! Thanks for making this an enjoyable new hobby, which I have been wanting to do for some time. All the best!
Hey Doug. I made this impossible whittle. I used bass wood for the spinner and used a harder wood for the stick. I used a pear tree branch and a maple tree branch. I love making these. Thanks for the video.
Very cool! I love it! ❤️ Thank you for the demonstration and information. All the best 👍 Peace and good fortune and good health to you and your family. 👌
Doug you’re such a consummate craftsman and I enjoy your videos so much!!! I’m so happy that you’re going camping with a certain someone soon!!! It’s been too long...
I have been enjoying your channel for years now, and you never fail to impress. Love everything you do, thanks for all you do to share and teach and enjoy the outdoors 🤠 Mike
Hey Doug. I’m a longtime subscriber and love your work. I wanted to thank you for doing all the small whittle projects because they are not only fun but they are giving me tons of practice using my knives and practicing different cuts. Thanks again.
Hey Doug, thanks for yet another amazing video, just completed one for my wife (5 hearts, myself, our kids and our pets). Was wondering if I could save myself some hassle in the future and painted at least the hearts before combining.
I remember the old video and forgot it. I had just started carving. I will do this now, have the wood and a small bandsaw. Was doing a lot with a copping saw before. Also want to say thanks for the video’s. Your 5 minute wizard is so much fun, I have carved hundreds out of sticks, basswood and yes even pencils😂
awesome, doug. thanks. been planning on doing one of these for my wife for valentine's day. you are so skilled and must have incredibly strong hands and sharp blades. expert question: i just got a flexcut vtool. the end appears to be magnetized. am i crazy? well, i'm probably crazy, but am i crazy for thinking the end is magnetized?
Thanks, I've made quite of few of these since I seen you do it a few years back. . My lastest is a round ( I call a washer) and made the straight look like a screw driver. Thanks again. 👍
Hi Mr Doug … Iam new to your channel , I love you work you are so talented You may already have a video, but I was wondering if you could do a simple fish? I’ve just recently started trying to whittle and carve and I would love to do a fish. In memory of my son. Ty kiM
Hi Doug, great little keepsake for Valentines. Quick one, i noted when you cut the 2 slices for the hearts you got little or no fuzz on the cut. What TPI have you got on your blade? My blade is sharp but leaves fuzz every time...but only on basswood. Thanks.
@@dougLinker unfortunately the sound was a miss on the last episode & I couldn't hear you without being shouted at by Alec, I'm sure the content was class as always? I'll really miss you two together but equally excited to see your individual projects going forward💚🇬🇧🌱
Hello! WoW! Wow! You have an interesting channel. You are doing great. I wish you prosperity and success! God bless you and all your family! Good luck! 🍎🍏🍐🍑🍒
Where's a good place to find Basswood in Ontario? I just moved to Smiths Falls, so my only known source at the moment is Lee Valley and those little blocks are pricey 😁

I was just wondering what’s the best place for me to buy basswood blocks if I want to try whittling
Thank you , Mr Doug .

Thank you. God Bless and stay safe.
How beautiful!! Any suggestions on how to do these if we don’t have the equipment with the saw?
Hand tools or friends? :)
An inexpensive coping, jeweler's or fret saw works fine. Takes just a bit longer but still quick
@@garrettswoodworx1873 ' thank you for the suggestions '

Try pushing the wood through the band saw blade slowly. You'll get a lot less fuzz. This is also a good tip for cutting trim with a miter box saw.
it's still there on mine just maybe not as visible, that's why i still needed to carve it off.on the others i just sanded to keep flat and smooth
@@dougLinker cheers Doug 👍🏻
As always, I enjoy your videos.
Great video Doug thanks does it have to be basswood could it be pine wood?
Pine does not react like the Basswood
Thank you
Yeah!🥳 Doug time💚🇬🇧🌱

You can try a sawmill or order online -i get some from Moore roughouts in the states and the shipping is pricey but it’s really nice stuff
KJP Hardwoods in Ottawa
