  • During the dark and suffocating days of our black summer, fires tore through vast parts of Australia.
Six months on, despite the promise of government assistance and the millions raised and in donations, some are still living without power or water.
In the southeast of NSW, communities like Cobargo saw their houses, farms and even the main street go up in flames.
With billions of dollars pledged and donated, why are people still struggling?

Like dude, if I was in your position I'd be hitting up every Woolies/Coles ringing whatever supplier and buying all their water along the way. Heck even organising water trucks? Pay for it OUT OF POCKET TOO. Like that still wouldn't have gone over well some would have missed out but I would have at least felt like I can make SOMEONE'S day a little better.

We had earthquakes here in Christchurch New Zealand in 2011- my property is still not finished and cost me a mortgage of nearly $600 a week. Insurance didn’t pay for what was needed and the battles I have fought are ongoing. I have sprained both knees falling down the mudhill entrance to my house and temp steps which have been there 4 years. Today its finally being fixed by a church group and they are amazing- thanks habitat for humanity because it would have never been fixed without their kindness. Its appalling what people endure in the aftermath of such events and the time it takes is unbelievable. To have to fight for basic human rights is not ok. When this place is finished i will be doing some advocacy around what basic human rights like the right to dignity mean. The utter bullying I endured from those whose homes were finished is the mist soul destroying and the vultures who hoped to get a bargain if I lost my home because of the cost- well I survived :) it was sheer utter hell but ten years on - i have a home I have fibromyalgia now from stress and cold- this experience I wouldn’t wish upon anyone. I wish all these people well and hope they can get their lives back as soon as possible. I feel your pain- it will get better eventually:)

All that money Australians donated should have gone to the people we were told it would go to, we were lied to. It’s too hard to navigate and fill out all the online forms necessary to get any money from the government. I’ll never donate to an organization again. Better to give to people directly.

    • @babycakes8434
      @babycakes8434 3 года назад +1

Exactly my thoughts. The charities took the money and run. That is exactly why I do not donate to charities. When my house was flooded in a flood, everyone who were not affected run and got help and stuff, even though they were not affected by the flood, and were not supposed to get that help at all. But my family had to clean and try to salvage whatever was salvageable and protect it so mold would not attack it with the speed of light. So we didn't get any help, because we didn't get to it on time. By the time we were able to reach for help, all the supplies were mostly gone. Ridiculous.

Southern California area, in October 2003, huge fires. People organized various staging areas for people to bring their horses, other animals. My husband and I helped haul horses, and it was frightening to see fire on both sides of the road. After fire died down, we helped return horses to their owners. Guess what CA did? After 2003, if anyone wanted to help evacuate animals, livestock, they had to have a license to do so. Had to pay a fee, attend classes and workshops, then present license to officials to be allowed into an area to help evacuate livestock/animals. People used to just help each other, but then here comes the government to put their finger in the pie and take advantage!!

Did you guys have any homeless and or low income families put out by the fires ?
They moved all of ours into temp trailers and hotels, now they are kicking them all out with new regulations on overnight camping.
It is sad for our people, community's and our country's, how are we all to strive and grow together when our government injects so much hate ?
I wish our country had the heart for its people as yours appears to. We have to beg and fill out endless applications to receive any help and it's still not guaranteed, even though the money is given by our government and donations.
Many of us spent hours days and months on our phones and computers getting the word out for help from around the world and country, we watched as millions of donations poured in by loving and caring people just to be told there is none available.
I love how you still have enough love in your country, to share that love unconditionally with each other.
    Thanks!!

No fires destroy EVERYONE in it's path; land thieves or not. You could be the kindest person in the world and the fires would not care. Got nothing to do with stealing land or not stealing land. Fires (and earth quakes, tsunami's etc.) happen, and mother nature doesn't care about morality. It'd be like saying "earth quakes are what happens to the immoral, dolphin killing Japanese". Total BS, mother nature doesn't care about our morality. You could pray a billion times a day but if you're in the area of a bush fire, tsunami, earthquake or whatever (any natural disaster) the earth will still burn you, crush you or drown you, swallow you whole or whatever. It's a bit silly to think we actually matter that much. We don't matter, our morality doesn't matter. You could be the nicest person but when it's time to go (I mean die), being a nice, good person won't matter one bit to mother nature.

Why are you watching this? Yeah 0 is nothing in Denmark where everywhere is nicely heated. When you only have a caravan in the middle of the bush you'd be wanting more than just a jacket

u@@Albot940 They mentioned in this show, that one of the couples had a place in Sydney, but were ''forced'' to return to feed the animals. How about sell either of those places and commit to one.. Dont know the exact details but.
Also ur prime minister seems clueless.. Good at making business, but sucks at working with humans
