Simic has the best counter spells, ramp, and card draw. You get Force of Will, Mana Drain, Cyclonic Rift, Intruder Alarm, Rhystic Study, Heroic Intervention, Sylvan Library, Harvest Season, Gaea's Cradle, Yavimaya's Hollow, Oko and more. Explore and proliferate are great mechanics too. The tribe has incredible synergy, outclassed only by slivers, so it's definitely at least an A tier.

I have a Kumena +1/+1 deck that is a lot of fun to play and can quietly build up and pop off a Simic Ascendency quickly. Has plenty of support and being in u/g has easy access to ramp, draw and counterspells.
All wolves would count as dogs and vice versa. I also agree with Joe that all nagas should be snakes. It's like they disrupted a few tribes that could otherwise have some cohesion.
I agree with this completely. My faeries deck is my absolute favorite deck and it actually performs quite well. They are especially fun to play in a political way. My deck is called "faery trickery" and it's filled with bargaining chips and out of the blue plays. Agreed we need better choices for commanders but that's coming! What commander are you running? Highlight cards? And no thats my first time hearing of it? Upcoming set or secret lair or what? Thanks for the reply brither
@@st0rts11D4 I run Oona as well. My deck is Aggro control so I also have coat of arms, as well as, a few other token generating cards. I have 3 or 4 tutors and will bargain with Sower of temptations... Ya know most peeps like their commanders and with various other creature bounce and removal spells. I also run things like polymorphist's jest and turn to frog etc because they're a great value out of nowhere plus my faeries are tiny little things so they need some help every now and then. I pushed my mana curve really low so I pretty much always have mana open but I don't control to be oppressive I control to make deals and get x better outcome. My sub theme is also rogue so I have a ton of cards that do silly things based on combat damage. I also run rankle so group hug comes in there and there is all types of silliness that can happen with him. I also run bitter blossom and necropotence so much of the time faeries are playing their tricks at the cost of my health lol. Of course those two cards combined with Aggro staples give a ridiculous advantage and that deck tends to stay ahead of the curve. Of course all said my faeries are rather oppressive one on one so I tend to enjoy them in groups and most in teams. My faeries have always been considered by my group to be quite formidable and some of them are afraid of them in all truth. That's also why I don't get why they ranked so low they have tons of synergy and just about every one of them has an ability for cheap. Of course, I get some of the tribes ahead of our faeries but still peeps seem to be dismissive until they play against faeries.
Definitely think Soldiers should be at least C tier, they received a ton of support cards back in Onslaught block (mostly in white), a scattering of support cards since then. As long as you include white for the support cards there's great commanders for it too. Sisay, Weatherlight Captain - Kynaios and Tiro of Meletis - Jirina Kudro
My Aleesha Soldiers/Warriors deck goes pretty hard with building counters and bringing back the units with Aleesha, due to her ability bringing back a 2/2 base creature, and then when they come back having cards that will buff them up. I've gotten a few creatures up between 8/8 to 12/12 with counters in my first few games with the deck.
Merfolk, especially Simic with Kumena, are incredibly underrated here. Please do the next 25! That sounds really fun. Evaluating the tribes the meta maybe doesn't already have a clear opinion on. Possible candidates: Giants, dogs, myr, fish (octopus, leviathan, serpent, crabs, whatever, lol), Gods, Demons, devils, clerics, sphinx, Beast, rogues, scarecrows, Dwarves, Vehicles, Hellion, Wurms, cyclops, and Ooze. Personal note, please PLEASE do giants. Giants have a lot of great cards that are synergistic that recently came out in Eldraine. On top of that, Uro, Kroxa, realm cloaked giant, primeval titan, oloro, ageless ascetic, grave titan, and towering titan are all absolute BOMBS and definitely push the case for giants. Theres also a decent curve. Only weakness is picking a commander. Without playing Morophon, giants are difficult because of their lack of primary identifying colors. Thanks for the fun content, keep it up guys!
in kaldheim though, i can guarantee some good giants. Your dream of good giant tribal will come true! also maybe some good dwarves in kaldheim. There might be elves, but if they are there, they will be weird and probably not that synergistic.
Eldrazi decks are multicolored? My Selvala, Heart of the Wilds eldrazi deck would like a word, shes an amazing eldrazi commander plus your low end is filled with green ramp so you get to the big tentacle bois quickly.
My saheeli, the gifted pacific-rim-like big robots and big cthulhian monsters decks also like a word. Puting a Kozilek on the battlefield turn 3 is just fun!
But is that really eldrazi tribal? Isn't that more big power tribal like the eldrazi creature type doesn't matter they could be artifacts they could be constructs they could be hydras it's just that currently within the game of magic the best beefy boys happen to be eldrazi
@@mark1A100 Yeah they could be, but the way I've built it I've made it very eldrazi centric. I have the spawn and scion making things at the lower end for tribal ramp, plenty of colourless lands, and am playing lots of the big eldrazi, even if they aren't best in slot, like uncommon and common ones as well as the obvious titans. Sure I run some generic ramp and a few value creatures like Nyxbloom Ancient, but it still very much feels like an eldrazi deck.
Goblins are a solid A whilst elves are S tier since you can ramp better with elves and go wide that way. I feel like elves are faster that way and playing more cards is more fun than resolving a big spell. Both are weak to board wipes but in green you have heroic intervention and in a goblin deck you probably run eldrazi monument or goblin churgeon.
I might be biased, but you guys are highly underselling Merfolk. The biggest downside is that they only have one strong commander: Kumena. But Kumena enabled a really strong strategy with his abilities to draw cards and put +1 counters on the team. Merfolk's strength lies in its versatility. There's TONS of cheap CMC merfolk with great utility abilities for almost every situation, and there's tons of lords to pump your board. Kumena wants lots of cheap merfolk so you can start drawing cards asap, those cheap merfolk all have different utility abilities to slow down/outpace your opponents, and once your board is flooded you drop your lords, pump with Kumena's third ability, and/or drop your game ending craterhoof, triumph of the hoards, or finale of devaststion. Pros: incredibly fun, powerful, and versatile Cons: only one strong commander, lots of combat math, and keeping track of +1 counters and untap triggers Merfolk are definitely A/B tier at least
I never understood the hate for slivers. They were rarely relevant let alone tier one in any competitive format that i know of apart from abusing that one poison sliver. Anyway. i recently switched my Sliver Overlod commander to The First Sliver and oh my god, it's so much fun. Spamming voltron is what they are now. Much more fun then just shortcutting to the combo's. removed a lot of tuters too. Sliver at their core should be spamming out a voltron build through number of creatures instead of a single one. And i like that. I am a sucker for voltron decks if you havnt noticed. I recommend it. Although deck construction involves a lot of carddraw engines to work propper.
The non-flying bird issue is complicated. There are technically six Commander legal birds that don't have and can't gain flying through their own effect. Coastal Hornclaw, Fledgling Osprey, Roc Egg, Roc Hatchling, and Rukh Egg are also Birds that don't have flying but instead either can gain through their own effect or create flying tokens. Including Changelings/Mistform Ultimus, there are an additional 35 creatures with the Bird type that don't have flying and an additional 4 Changelings that don't have flying but can gain it through its own abilities [Shapesharer, Mothdust Changeling, Moritte of the Frost, and Cairn Wanderer]. There are also 7 creatures [excluding Clone effects] that can be birds by choice and don't natively have flying; Adaptive Automaton, Metallic Mimic, Proteus Machine, Mistform Warchief, Mistform Wall, Mistform Stalker [which doesn't have flying but can gain it natively], and Mistform Sliver. So, in total, there are 41 Birds/Changeling Birds without flying, 9 Birds/Changeling that don't have flying but can gain it through an effect on their card, and 7 creatures without flying that can be birds by choice with native abilities. So, yes, with 57 potentially flightless birds and honorary bird things without flying, there are enough creatures to make Flightless Bird tribal, with there even being a 5 color flightless Bird to use as a commander [Morophon, which is an honorary bird thing without native flying]. Funnily enough, there are actually mutliple commanders for the archetype: Mistform Ultimus, Morophon, Moritte of the Frost, and Orvar. There are a further 10 Birds that are not Commander legal that don't have flying with two of them able to gain flying natively but not having the ability consistently. Finally, there 2 uncards that are either every creature type [which includes birds] or can become a bird [and, in this case, can choose to gain flying], with those being Dr. Julius Jumblemorph and Greater Morphling respectively. TL, DR; There are 57 creatures outside clones that are/can be birds that do not have flying or do not have flying unless a condition is met. 11 are just birds and 46 are either changelings or creatures that can choose to be birds through some effect.
Weird tier list. I really feel like wizards and elves should be up in S tier (Azami is the biggest push for wizards), then move the entire C tier up to A except for Hydras. I know you were looking at how fun these tribes are as well but I really think you missed the mark on those since they actually have a ton of support. I get that the game plan doesn’t seem as good in commander, but that’s tribal decks in general. Cats are almost in that same group but I agree there just aren’t enough playables yet.
Artificers have some really powerful creatures, they just lack a commander to take advantage of them. I have a Lin Sivvi Rebel deck that is a very interesting toolbox commander deck

I have flying tribal, dragons, knights, and I recently built infect rogues. Dragons are much better than the rest. Knights do have a lot more support and better payoffs than birds. I tried to build birds and ended up going flying tribal lol.
Knights are usually a type nobles that are born into a family that becomes knights. It’s a step above citizens, but not quite nobles since they have to train and fight, although they did gain most the benifits nobles received. It was not common to become a knight born outside of a knight family. Anyone can sign up and be a soldier usually the lower class, where as knights are more of a mid-high class. Sorry for the rant, but to me a knight is definitely it’s own thing, especially since I’ve always loved mid-evil times and lore
I recently built an edh Hydra Deck with Gargos as Commander and I gotta say, I am pretty sure you just dont now what hydras can do. First of all, I have just a few X Hydras in this deck, like 5 or maybe less, and there is a hydra for every main function, there is a ramp Hydra , a Draw Hydra , removal Hydra , wipe Hydra and even a Genesis Hydra. Hydras do have a theme besides X : they like to fight, they dont like flyers, and they are hard to kill or give you stuff when they are killed. Dont underestimate hydras. PS: I also consider a tribal deck, a deck that does not solely rely on creatures of the chosen type, so we might be talking about different things. I only have 14 + Commander Hydras in my deck. I do consider this Hydra - Tribal. Good day
You definitelly have elves wrong. They belong to S cathegory. They're the fastest tribe. Can generate insane mana and card draw in first 3 turns and win quickest. Whenever my friend brews an elf deck, it's the strongest I've ever seen. Other tribes just don't get to do anything when he can win turn 2 or 3

The problem with elementals is that wotc tries to carve out a place for white and black elementals when they should just stop. If it's made of fire, wind, rock, ice, water, etc., I'm fine with it being an elemental. Plant elementals I think should just be plants. EDIT: The difference between soldiers, knights, and warriors isn't hard to get (even if they're not that great). Knights tend to be the noble fighter class and therefore get all the best armor, weapons, and mounts. Warriors are like the wild untrained fighters. Soldiers are just normal, poor/middle-class dudes trained to fight and fairly well equipped.
I don't agree with the merfolk ranking at all, but thats probably because I'm biased. A lot of different merfolk have unique abilities, a lot of them being activated abilities. Which makes them super fun with tapping and untapping effects.
Lions are actually more different to cats than wolves are to dogs. Species-wise all domestic dogs are the same species as wolves, whereas there are a bunch of different species grouped together as "Cat"

I am about to build a Reaper King deck that also runs Slivers so that my changelings enter as scarecrows and destroy a permanent and then act as slivers on the battlefield. Then I will return them from the graveyard as zombies.
i think the tribes should have been moreso ranked based on viability rather than how fun. Cuz if thats the case, eldrazi would be s teir because you just put one of the titans and fast mana rocks and you can cast everything in your deck. Same with elementals. There is so much elemental support.
All 6 birds without flying (14 counting un-sets) made sure to include a reason for them to not have flying within the art (either being based on a flightless bird or being fused with other animals that do not fly) except for Whipporwill, an uncommon from the dark that clearly shows a bird that should have no problem flying, but instead of flying it instead makes it so target creature can't be regenerated. can't have damage dealt to it redirected or prevented and makes it exile instead of go to the graveyard till end of turn which is very weird for a mono green card.
I would say Wizards should be S tier. My buddy built a Inalla Wizard Tribal deck and it combos with a Ham Sammy but only uses Wizard's to make the combos. Its stupidly powerful
Sounds like a female friendly deck concept, A token summoning blue deck where you controll your opponents but also summon pixies/sprites, mermaids, fairies and fairie dragons, maybe throw in some mushrooms if they make cute ones with deadly effects
Isnt the whole deal about shapeshifters are that they are able to use other tribe's support? They benefit from spells that normally have their power restricted to a certain tribe, allowing them to take advantage of a menagerie of efficient and useful spells. Of course they dont have their own support, they technically have all the support. IMO: I rate them C at best.
Gotta admit, my mono white angel deck lead by Avacyn has won harrrrd against quite a few decks. Its by no means a top tier deck but I'd rate it higher than D tier

Yeah these guys don't know anything about how great Kumena is, or Merfolk in general. I've won many games using Simic Ascendancy's alt-win condition with Hardened Scales and Vorel of the Hull Clade; plus lots of tap/untap synergy with Merrow Commerce, Throne of the God-Pharaoh, Quest for Renewal, Seedborn Muse and Kiora's Follower.
Not to mention other greats: Galena steals commanders permanently, Thada Adel and Thieving Skydiver steal artifacts, Lullmage adds reusable counterspells to Kumena's abilities, Surgespanner is a massive tempo play, Thrasios gains lands, lots of lords/+1 counters/hexproof tokens, islandwalk with Quicksilver fountain, Reef Shaman and Tideshaper Mystic to mess with lands.
@@NitpickingNerds Don't have enough synergy? WHAT???? They have so many lords and alt wincons its ridiculous..... draw your deck and play thassas oracle. standard beatdown with lords+Coat of Arm or Stampede type effects. Mill opponents. Simic ascendancy. Infect with Kumena or unblockable merfolk. Merfolk are one of the best supported tribes and has one of the most versitile play styles.
I can't believe faeries is so low! Probably my favorite deck. The commander choices are super slim but man do they have some cool abilities
Have you seen Wilds of Eldraine yet? Our favorite tribe is getting so much love and I'm psyched.
@@michaelbrumbaugh5389 yeees, it's such a niche tribe. I run Oona with all of the flashy highlight secret lair art type stuff, with all of accoutrements like coat of arms etc. I like your take, something like a "group hug" but not really type thing?
Sisay, Weatherlight Captain - Kynaios and Tiro of Meletis -
Jirina Kudro
My Aleesha Soldiers/Warriors deck goes pretty hard with building counters and bringing back the units with Aleesha, due to her ability bringing back a 2/2 base creature, and then when they come back having cards that will buff them up. I've gotten a few creatures up between 8/8 to 12/12 with counters in my first few games with the deck.
Merfolk, especially Simic with Kumena, are incredibly underrated here.

Scrolled down to see if anyone also understood this hahaha
Yes, ive lost to these shenanigans.
Elves synergize the most past slivers. Merfolk are maybe around 4th with fairies
I feel like elementals are simply just spirits of nature 🤯
Larry a patron say they are nature given form and I kinda like that
Please do the next 25!
FUNGUS FUNGUS FUNGUS
Brad Winward a long time ago we tried giant tribal amd it was rough to build
Foxes, Atogs
in kaldheim though, i can guarantee some good giants. Your dream of good giant tribal will come true! also maybe some good dwarves in kaldheim. There might be elves, but if they are there, they will be weird and probably not that synergistic.
Golems, splicers, myr
All part of my fave deck and only the cute little robots made the cut! XD
I love playing Faeries! Alela and Oona are great commanders and soooo much removal! I think you need a faerie deck in your lives 😆
I wonder if we do! :D
I put this tier video in the D Rank.
The placements were too based on personal bias & multiple tribes were left out.
Harsh... But I agree more with your rank than with this video so yeah lol
As a hydra player, I will tell you that there is not a mythic hydra in every set. And Rosheen Meanderer is the correct commander for R/G.
And Gargos for Mono-Green.
Recently made a bear queen tribal deck with a voltron sub theme , its quickly becoming one of my favourite decks. Think poop is abit low
Eldrazi dying to a burn spell killed me! They definitely cheaped out on that.
Pros: incredibly fun, powerful, and versatile
Cons: only one strong commander, lots of combat math, and keeping track of +1 counters and untap triggers
Merfolk are definitely A/B tier at least
Somebody hold me back because my favorite deck is kights
Angels need the same treatment as dragons in edh and by that I talkin about our Ur-dragon with good angel finishers
I would lose my shit if we got an angel tribal commander like that. Preferably in bant colors. I desperately wish Angel tribal was better lol
B-But where are my demons ? I love them...
She traitor and a part of the rebel Alliance
I’m with ya!
"Everything wizards can't think up a type for is an Elemental" unless its in cannon in which case Weirds exist, and they are literally the classification of "A wizard made this, what the fuck?" and anything else that can't be classified
OH MY GOSH I FORGOT ABOUT THE NEW NITPICKEING NERDS VIDEO!!!! CATS ARE DA BEST I RIDE AHRABO TO VICTORY!!!!!
Cats are so cuddly and fun
Good day
Knights S fight me.

This. Syr Gwyn is cool as hell. Circle of loyalty and a bunch of equipment? Super fun.
I have a syr gwyn deck too, I call it lords with swords lol. They're a good tribe, but I would probably give them a B.
You definitelly have elves wrong. They belong to S cathegory. They're the fastest tribe. Can generate insane mana and card draw in first 3 turns and win quickest. Whenever my friend brews an elf deck, it's the strongest I've ever seen. Other tribes just don't get to do anything when he can win turn 2 or 3
hey joe, just wanted to let you know that you are super likable in your videos. keep going! :-)

I'd love to see the next 25 or so tribes as well. Aurochs need some love. Wait, there's no Aurochs tribal in commander?
I think shapeshifters can be fun, but it's as a changeling deck where you throw in any other creature you have lying around. Slivers and Aurochs, oh my!
I would have thought Elves and Goblins would be on the same tier.
guru khalsa they are both great but goblins are too stronk

The only two tribal decks I have are Sephara Angels and Ayula Bears.
Adria Klocke do you like them?

Eldrazi are individually powerful, but none of them syngerize without other Eldrazi; no Eldrazi has an ability like “when you cast an Eldrazi spell draw a card” or “Eldrazi you control get +1/+1.”
I learned this when I was looking to make Rakdos Lord of Riots Eldrazi tribal. I made the list and was like “oh this is just colorless good stuff…. I might as well take out the weakest Eldrazi and put in other non-Eldrazi good stuff”
Wtf no Atog? Or minotaur?
We might cover them next time around!

No Ninjas?
Y'all have never came up against an Avacyn board wipe tribal deck and it shows
That's not angel tribal though 😂
Where are my precious rats?! You can make a whole tribal deck out of just 1 or 2 different creatures (Relentless Rats/Rat Colony). So fun!
I've been looking at rats very closely lately.
Love that my favorite tribe isn't when an option. But to be fair, I'm the only one I've seen that plays skeleton tribal.
Soulshift was a mechanic that give spirits some really cool support. I wish spirit decks got more respect.
I know it doesn't have any support but my Arcades deck is super fun to play. I would upgrade to bottom tier of D at least
Gargos hydra deck with ramp and target creature spells is a force to be reckoned with
Birds without flying (not counting un-sets):
Bronzebeak Moa,
Darba,
Hunting Moa,
Porcuparrot,
Whippoorwill,
Zodiac Rooster
Here 2 years in the future with the new Shelob and Spiders finally have a deck right when you guys said they would
I don't agree with the merfolk ranking at all, but thats probably because I'm biased. A lot of different merfolk have unique abilities, a lot of them being activated abilities. Which makes them super fun with tapping and untapping effects.
"Where there's marketing there's vampires"
Well this joke aged perfectly
Lions are actually more different to cats than wolves are to dogs. Species-wise all domestic dogs are the same species as wolves, whereas there are a bunch of different species grouped together as "Cat"
I'd put shapeshifters and changlings at S tier because everything supports them and you can always reliably make them op
My Poor Faeries T.T Oona was my very first ever commander I picked to build around and I still have my faerie Tribal deck to this day; "Side Effects May Faerie"
Fae is poo :P
I kinda wish there were more gorgon cards so that a gorgon tribal deck could be more effective
Hella agree. Wanted to do Gorgon tribal, ended up building a Zaxara Hydra tribal deck. Zaxara is way fun, but I really miss Varaska and all the Gorgons.
@@sarahmorgan7543 yeah i ended up making a gorgon deck but its in no way legal for anything above casual play with friends.
Ended up just being a deathtouch, vraska or parika deck
You are crazy bad at magic if you think snakes are bad. Seshiro makes snakes amazing. My friends actively grumble when I pull him out. The card advantage is amazing.
Tribal tribal is shapeshifters and you know you love that.
I am about to build a Reaper King deck that also runs Slivers so that my changelings enter as scarecrows and destroy a permanent and then act as slivers on the battlefield. Then I will return them from the graveyard as zombies.
My favorite planet was Pluto. Was sad to know what happened to it, even though I was born after it was unjustly demoted.
I will give you this like, despite us needing to throw hands about knights 😤
i think the tribes should have been moreso ranked based on viability rather than how fun. Cuz if thats the case, eldrazi would be s teir because you just put one of the titans and fast mana rocks and you can cast everything in your deck. Same with elementals. There is so much elemental support.
All 6 birds without flying (14 counting un-sets) made sure to include a reason for them to not have flying within the art (either being based on a flightless bird or being fused with other animals that do not fly) except for Whipporwill, an uncommon from the dark that clearly shows a bird that should have no problem flying, but instead of flying it instead makes it so target creature can't be regenerated. can't have damage dealt to it redirected or prevented and makes it exile instead of go to the graveyard till end of turn which is very weird for a mono green card.
you all forgot sphinx tribal! there's a legendary sphinx that turns all your sphinxes into fact or fiction effects
I would say Wizards should be S tier. My buddy built a Inalla Wizard Tribal deck and it combos with a Ham Sammy but only uses Wizard's to make the combos. Its stupidly powerful
Pretty sure shapeshifters are busted with Ur Dragon. That tribal tribal deck is absurd and a ton of fun to play.
Sounds like a female friendly deck concept,
A token summoning blue deck where you controll your opponents but also summon pixies/sprites, mermaids, fairies and fairie dragons, maybe throw in some mushrooms if they make cute ones with deadly effects
Dont worry spiderman will be an official card usable in all eternal formats, available only in secret lairs.
For angels I don’t think y’all ever played vs Giada she’s a great angel commander
My personal modern deck is comprised of Jace and his band of Asian dudes.
Gotta admit, my mono white angel deck lead by Avacyn has won harrrrd against quite a few decks. Its by no means a top tier deck but I'd rate it higher than D tier
