He covers almost twice the distance of other guys on his drives because he's taking long slow strides for his carry steps. He can do that because has no intention of leaping, most dudes it's one quick low step and a plant to be able to explode for vertical distance, but since Jokic can't do that he's making sure those steps cover a lot of horizontal distance.
@@gerdanbombales Yeah, I agree. Look at Kareem's career, he rarely ever jumped either and had a SUPER long career with few injuries. I appreciate that you focused on how effective he is moving without the ball. I don't think that gets talked about enough. He's one of the best off ball players in the NBA. Jamal Murray is pretty good on and off ball too, and I think this is the key to their effectiveness as a duo
100% agree with everything you said. Jokic's all-time passing and low post game lead people to think of his on-ball game more than anything, when in reality he adds value away from the ball in a way that only guys like Steph or KD can replicate. As for Murray, the movement shooting, quick decision making on the fly, and sharp cutting get lost in the prowess of his tough shotmaking and crafty handle.

WTH did I just watch? This work fits right in with anything Ben Taylor from Thinking Basketball has done. The level of detail you provided just for his scoring game is impressive. I mean, when I saw the vid is 22 mins long, I was expecting you to spend like half of it talking about his all-time great passing cause I wasn't expecting anyone to go over Jokic's scoring game with this fine-toothed of a comb. But you had so much insight into his scoring game, you were able to use all 22 mins breaking only that down. Impressive work man. Also, props for getting the pronunciation of his first name correctly. My man Ben Taylor is starting to slip with his "Nikola" pronunciation in his recent Jokic videos 😅.

I swear I was just saying to myself that Jokic is the best scorer in the nba. Bro is unstoppable from literally everywhere and just as lethal with his playmaking. He’s insane
This isn't even that hot of a take, but Jokic is the best scorer in the NBA. I don't know anyone else who can score in the number of ways he can, and there's no defender who can stop him. If he wanted to he could easily average 35+ PPG but getting teammates involved for easy shots is a better way to win.
His last 2 playoff runs have done nothing but prove this, consistently pouring in an extremely efficient 30 against vastly different defensive opponents and approaches, 1 of 1.
@HoopVenue the fact he averaged 31-13-6 on the number 1 defense on the playoffs last year while having will Barton as his 2nd option is so crazy. It's even crazier that after the first two games, he figured their defense out and proceeded to average 35-15-6 on 66% shooting
As a Lakers Fan, I have seen a ton of content on Jokic this dude is crazy good and the best in the League, If he wins another MVP and maybe another Championship. It would put him in a space only a few are in. He is only 28 lol

Stunningly good video. Analysts struggle to see Jokic's amplification effect of his passing in a team sport (duh!) because they historically are looking for superstars who do it alone, but not nearly enough attention has been given to his ability to score the basket. On top of being perhaps the greatest offensive player ever, he was also really strong on defense during these play-offs, compared to being labled a traffic cone during the regular season.

When @HoopVenue uploads I tune in, it is as simple as that. Another banger!! I love how you took the time to explain how his shot mechanics work when he's in the restricted area. Hes not just throwing the shot up he's poised and just patient enough to wait for the right timing to release. He is also scanning the floor for that extra pass because he knows the double team is coming off his weak side. The reason why his game looks so effortless is he doesn't make any unnecessary movement, he takes what the defense gives him and adjusts accordingly. Add a ridiculously decent 3pt shot (he shot 38% last season and you have someone who, dare I say it, is LITERALLY impossible to card. This man is poised to win multiple championships and possibly go on to be top three greatest centers (after Tim and Hakeem of course)
Already a solidified top 4 offensive player ever for me: with lebron, Jordan and Steph. There’s no one I love watching play more than him though in my entire life
Easy money. If not even the best can do it, no one will expect you me to guard him properly, so he could drop 80 on me and no one would want to release the me.
What I've noticed most about Jokic is his processing speed. He seems to move/think split-seconds ahead of anyone else. Almost to the point where it looks like he's sometimes playing the game in slow motion. Whenever he's speaking it always seems like his words are trying to find a way to catch up to his thoughts. You can notice the constant 'uhhhs', his quick eye movements and his body language. PG said it himself, with 99% of other players he's getting a steal. Jokic is just that 0.1s faster.
I don't know how anyone argues he's not the best player in the league. Best passer. Best decision maker. Best within 10 feet. Best midrange. Elite 3 point shooting, though Steph and Lillard are better. Good defense, though not as good as Giannis and Embiid, but much, much better on offense. Also he almost never misses a game.
Jokic is probably the most unselfish superstar that I've ever seen in the NBA since he doesn't dominate although he does on stats but impacts winning even if he doesn't score 30 every night.
What I love about the joker is his bag is so deep. He has all types of crazy passes and shots He is so much fun to watch, you never know what he is going to do. Watch Game 5 against the wolves in the 2024 playoffs, the shots he hits are absolutely crazy. No one comes close to him in the types of shots they take and hit. Never seen anything like it. And watch the Lakers series from the 2023 championship run, his bag was on full display. There is this assumption that he is boring to watch cause he doesn't jump and do crazy dunks, but the reality is he is the most exciting player to watch in the world if you really love basketball.
People see that he averages around 24.5ppg and say he's not an elite scorer hes shooting 63% from the field lmao if he went down to 45-50% from the field like other superstars he would average 35ppg and a triple double he's just not taking stupid shots and making the absolute best play possible and he's just to smart with his passes and other moves especially his footwork in the post and to top it off he can shoot from anywhere i say hes a top 5 passer ever some of his passes it almost looks like he bends the laws physics lol
Wemby will play the 4 against him, or the 5 but they will put a strong wing (Like the Lakers did with Rui and Bron, or the Wolves with KAT), so he can stay close to the rim and do what he does best, protecting the rim and blocking shots. But 1 vs 1 Jokic will probably struggle at first, but he is so smart that with his strength and skills he’ll find a way to score on him, but i think in Wemby’s prime, like in 4-5 years he will be able to guard Jokic, Wemby right now is 230, in his prime he will probably be 260-270 like AD or Gobert and with his lenght and athleticism i believe he will be the only player ever really able to slow down the Joker 1 on 1 …
Offensively I 100% agree, in many ways he expanded on the Bird archetype, especially by adding the mega on-ball scoring that Larry didn't really have against elite playoff defenses. Will say that Bird's era allowed him to make a bigger defensive impact for sure though, definitely an interesting debate imo!
Joker footwork, movement off ball and placement of greens are top notch. Joker offensive arsenal is out of this world. Is not like Centers (That fraud of Embiid) who is being told that he can do everything while he surely can, but can he do everything at great level like Joker? No even close. Joker is All Time close to the rim and inside. He's All Time from the Post. He's Elite from Mid. Elite on drives to the basket. He's Great at 3PT. There's NOTHING Jokic cannot do on offense. Pass,Shoot,Drive,Post,Mid,Step Back,Pull Up,Triples,Free Throws,Passing,Cutting,Movement off ball,Screen usage, screen setting, PnR,PnP,DHO,Reverse PnR and PnP. Jokic might be the greatest offensive weapon in the history of the NBA. I cannot think of a player who could absolutely everything at All Time great level. I can only think of Larry Bird because Magic couldn't shoot, neither Big O,MJ couldn't set Screens or do PnR's, Hakeem couldn't shot, Jokic and Larry Bird are the most talented basketball players in the history of the game.
Nitpick....Hakeem and magic could definitely shoot and big O did run pick and rolls, not nearly as frequently as they do today but he definitely ran them
Nice Job. Really shows off Jokic from all over the floor. One thing you touched on, but I think could be emphasized more is, he has excellent deceleration where he drives hard to the basket and if a big man is still right with him, he just puts the breaks on for his last step and they can never stay with him.
Thanks! I didn't want the runtime to be too long, so I kept this video limited to the half-court game. I really could've done an entire video just on how great he is in the open floor, ridiculous talent.
It’s gotten to the point with Jokic that when I see him score 21 points on 48% shooting and 8 assists my first thought is “Oh man, he was off tonight”. It’s not too soon to be talking about him as the GOAT offensive player. I’m not saying he is, but he should be in that conversation
The job is done. We can go home now. Quieltly says Nikola Jokić after winning first NBA championship in Nuggets history... This man is something realy special! Jordan was crying on every of his six rings... Embid was crying that year because he was MVP over the Jokić, but everybody knows the truth who was the real MVP that season, but Joker does not give a damm, he knows who is the best and he prove it to the all around the World, even the finals MVP did not mean to him a lot, he plays for the team, not for Him byself or for glory, just to win! That is how SERBIAN people do! Like Novak Djoković, Nikola Jokić. Ivana Španović-Vuleta, Water-polo team, Voley-ball team, Lara Mandić and other in Tekvondo, Karate... shooting sports.... We Serbians are all GOLD or maybe Silver medals. State with only 7.5 milions people have so many THE BEST at all sports, just tjink about that!
I don't think so. At this point one bump from Jokic and Wemby will be up in the rafters. Maybe once he develops more strength and fills up his frame more, but I don't see him affecting the Joker right now.
Big Honey is too good. Should be said he doesn't dramatize fouls and that also means he doesn't hit the hardwood as much, which helps avoid injury and deep bruises. He is just on another level, and I'm kinda waiting for a wing place to advertise with him for that elbow hook I can't unsee now. I hope they unlock more chemistry this year, its already great but they could repeat and cement their team as great. Also I'll say it, Nuggets have a top 10 defense this year.
I'm a Lakers fan and I already consider Jokic a GOAT, on the level of Wilt, Bill and Kareem, Definitely greater than MJ. MJ had the hype machine to help him get all the votes. Jokic even had a hype machine used to keep him from winning last year's MVP race! Stats wise, and all around game, Jokic is truly on the GOAT track!

Glad you enjoyed, and totally agree!
Already a solidified top 4 offensive player ever for me: with lebron, Jordan and Steph. There’s no one I love watching play more than him though in my entire life
Agreed. I'd throw in Shaq, Bird, Magic, Nash, and Kobe to complete the top 10. Kareem, Wilt, Dirk, and KD are in the mix too
He is the only reason I watch the NBA.
Imagine being asked to guard this man. It’s truly the stuff of nightmares
As someone who’s 5’11, I couldn’t imagine.
Great call, I feel like Draymond Green is the defensive version of this.
Good observation. I never thought about that. He does seem to process things very fast. He switches up on you really fast.
The anticipation of a playmaker.
Excellent work yet again
Thank you!
Being a long-time Jokic meatrider has been the most rewarding sports experience of my life
His biggest weapon is his 🧠, one of the smartest player that have ever played, his timing, feel and decision making is off the chart.
Agreed, sees the game at a different speed from everyone else!
Best Jokic review I have ever seen. Good work there!
61% from midrange is ridiculous
I had to check the stat about 4 times to actually confirm that it's right.
That's higher than some player's paint % 🤯
Great analysis - only when you see all of Jokic's moves with the ball toward the basket in slow-mo do you appreciate his ballet skills.
This guy is without a doubt the best draft pick of all time all sports included..
Another great video as always
Keep it up!
Thank you!
Jokic is probably the most unselfish superstar that I've ever seen in the NBA since he doesn't dominate although he does on stats but impacts winning even if he doesn't score 30 every night.
Excellent breakdown. He truly is one of a kind.
Jokic basketball is back
Had to make my return to the agenda with the start of the season.
Jokic playing beautiful and simple basketball with biggest game IQ ever in NBA!
still underrated, only real ones know. great analisis!!
Thank you!!
I'm convinced this man is a NBA2K created character in real life
Jokic is the embodiment of the saying, "Slow is smooth, smooth is fast."
Was tellin my friend today how jokic is probably the best offensive player ever. This is why lol
Gilbert A. stupidly said the old-school moves don't work and Jokic is dominantly using them to punish the league.……
Definitely the most skilled Center in the NBA.
Great video, excellent narrative, and obviously well-informed.
Glad you enjoyed!
Jokic is a nightmare. The NBA could make a case for banning him, he is that good. As a Nugget fan, I'm just thankful he's on our side of the ball.
People see that he averages around 24.5ppg and say he's not an elite scorer hes shooting 63% from the field lmao if he went down to 45-50% from the field like other superstars he would average 35ppg and a triple double he's just not taking stupid shots and making the absolute best play possible and he's just to smart with his passes and other moves especially his footwork in the post and to top it off he can shoot from anywhere i say hes a top 5 passer ever some of his passes it almost looks like he bends the laws physics lol
if he starts foul baiting like any other top scorer. He no doubt would be able to average 30 with 50%fg
This was a super well put together video! Really enjoyed it. Thanks!
Thanks for watching!
Spot on analysis mate!
Thank you!
That off-hand is lethal.
It's such an easy thing to miss, but so important.
People think the Joker CAN`T jump - well seems to me he doesn`t need to.
What an amazing analysis!
I'm glad you enjoyed!!
I can't wait to see him go against Wembanyama!
Wemby will play the 4 against him, or the 5 but they will put a strong wing (Like the Lakers did with Rui and Bron, or the Wolves with KAT), so he can stay close to the rim and do what he does best, protecting the rim and blocking shots.
But 1 vs 1 Jokic will probably struggle at first, but he is so smart that with his strength and skills he’ll find a way to score on him, but i think in Wemby’s prime, like in 4-5 years he will be able to guard Jokic, Wemby right now is 230, in his prime he will probably be 260-270 like AD or Gobert and with his lenght and athleticism i believe he will be the only player ever really able to slow down the Joker 1 on 1 …
@@Anthonydu01630Where did you get 230?? He's listed as 210 on the NBA website. Even just by looking at him he's not 230, he's too lanky for that
@@Anthonydu01630i dont think Wemby's knees could withstand 260lbs man...
History has shown..
@@angahbg9089bro he's 290😅
Very hot take but he might be better than bird.
@@HoopVenue 100% an interesting debate for people are open minded.
Well put together synopsis of a truly great player! Thanks very much.
Can't wait for Jokic Post Wemby and Chet 😅
I can only think of Larry Bird because Magic couldn't shoot, neither Big O,MJ couldn't set Screens or do PnR's, Hakeem couldn't shot,
Jokic and Larry Bird are the most talented basketball players in the history of the game.
Nitpick....Hakeem and magic could definitely shoot and big O did run pick and rolls, not nearly as frequently as they do today but he definitely ran them
Those shots over AD making his all time mixtape. 🤣
We need to start talking about jokic as being one of if the greatest offensive weapon to ever play
AD's smile at 9:53 so good
Years of horse riding gives one a certain degree of elegance 😌
Nice Job. Really shows off Jokic from all over the floor.
One thing you touched on, but I think could be emphasized more is, he has excellent deceleration where he drives hard to the basket and if a big man is still right with him, he just puts the breaks on for his last step and they can never stay with him.
Love that part of his game, gives him unlimited floaters!
Jokić is absolutely insane as a player, as long as Denver keeps him healthy, they will be able to create any and all types of plays.
Wow, this is a very well made video. Top level edit & tons of facts 👍🏻
This was an amazing breakdown.
Did I miss the bit on how the man can rebound or receive an outlet, and lead the break?
Agree with everything you said.
He is 🏀 Godfather.
High quality video, nice work
He moves trough space with minimum waste maximum joy.
Too early to say. Need to see the match-up with Victor Wembanyama defending the Joker! That rookie is a true phenom.
Can't wait for that duel!
I don't think so. At this point one bump from Jokic and Wemby will be up in the rafters. Maybe once he develops more strength and fills up his frame more, but I don't see him affecting the Joker right now.
He will destroy him 😂and not to mention he struggles against Bigs already! VW is a 7’5 wing player
We’ll explained as always love your content
Thank you!
Stats wise, and all around game, Jokic is truly on the GOAT track!
imagine guarding this guy regularly and having no gameplan at all cause he's really that unpredictable lol
It has to be one of the most annoying experiences in sports.
Amazing breakdown!
Thank you!
“He just does what any center would do, a one legged high arching floater off the back board”
Umm yeah that’s what all centers would do…. You got jokes huh? Lol
*the irony is that no other center would do that*
