    There is nothing wrong with infrastructure sharing. However it is POTRAZ that should have put up the backbone infrastructure. The private players would then rent the infrastructure from POTRAZ

      Imagine you buy your phone and gvt comes and says let your neighbours use it at “this” price. Nothing wrong with letting neighbours use it but everything wrong with telling me what I should charge

    Imagine getting punished for raising more money to expand your business only to be ordered to assist the competition lol Government of Zimbabwe needs to stop meddling in private businesses

      Perhaps you were not paying attention. Econet enjoys gate keeping at the expense of the consumer. They are competing with infrastructure and not with services which is what wee need. I'm with Supa on this one.

      @@sithabelamandlawenkosiwodu6298 you said a whole lot of nothing. I say this respectfully. Nobody stopped telecel and netone from expanding their infrastructure. As for service Econet is better than everybody

      @@sithabelamandlawenkosiwodu6298 there is also an element of reluctance from econet's competitors on setting up their own infrastructure which econet would in turn rent. Econet was investing millions in these base stations.

    I dont think Supa is being honest. I have worked with the biggest player in that market, American Tower Company. Its actually a very niche business model and very few players world wide because its CAPEX intensive. Other players like Eaton Towers were swallowed up by American Tower Company. All over the world where i have seen this, there is zero regulator involved, its purely private capital. When he says this its seems like a very simple thing to do but trust me it would take years to negotiate this kind of deal. No govt or regulator has business directing private capital how to invest their CAPEX.

    But the Government is now giving 1 player EXCLUSIVE rights to 1 player to partner with STARLINK.
    Why not allow all players, ECONET, TELECEL, NETONE to partner wirh STARLINK?

  • @jnyamande
    @jnyamande 4 месяца назад

    The truth of the matter is that network operators were aleeady sharing infrastructure long before Supa came into the picture.

    Super is making sense. But to look on the other side government sometimes doesn't pay and private players have problems to which they won't know how to sue the government when not payed

    From an entrepreneur's perspective, you cannot trust the government because of its policy inconveniences. I support Econet in that stead, the idea behind this infrastructure sharing has a lot of drawbacks, firstly you're helping someone to comepte with you. There are issues of security, stifling innovation because ana Net1 nana Telecel can just say we dont have money to deploy new technologies, ko iyo congestion on the towers!reducing the quality of service. Having been subjected to the regime's brutality, Strive had every right to decline. If you are on the top, they'll try and put you down, it works if they are on the top, like if Telone (government) is the provider. Potraz should have put the towers and opened an infrastructure sharing arrangement

      100 % correct. I work as a software engineer in the US. I came to Zim last year to see if I could set something up at home. The arrogance i dealt with was crazy.These guys policies are about quick and dirty money for themselves. One month i paid $150 for 100mbps, the next month i got a bill for $243 for the same service. I'm registering my company in the Seychelles instead.
      Incoherent policies by politicians is why so many young people leave Zim. The country is just a retirement home now. There's nothing happening in that country

    They should go further and allow non-mobile companies to put up infrustructure that they can rent out to mobile operators. They don't have to be regulated by Potraz as they are not providing service to end users.

    Nonsense. He is lying about who determined pricing. Regulator indicated price to charge. Also it’s not rocket science this infrastructure sharing such that he tries to portray it as he is the one who brought it forward. Networks had already discussed this but disagreed on what price to charge for rentals
