Awesome delivery from one of Zimbabwe's illustrious sons and business magnate. We definitely need to value who we are and coming from a man who has lived abroad for a significant part of his life is very key. The colonial mentality needs to fall off and be like the French, Russian and Chinese who have the mental fortitude never to look down on their language, names etc
What an amazing speech I've ever heard . This speech is so powerful that it makes any other speech I have heard from a business man irrelevant. Thank you ,I've been inspired, you touched a lot of things with pure knowledge. Enough respects Mukoma Shingi.
Lovely steady and articulate speech. Indeed our bantu origins are significant and should not be overlooked. Nonetheless I loved the potential investment through partnership and his knowledge what resources we have. He has true belief in his statements that we surely can be global contributers in the world market. Thank you Shingai..we were once neighbours in Mt Pleasant.
I'm a proud Zimbabwean building a climate digital bank launching in August 2024 in SA. We owe it ourselves and thank you for your Bold leadership Mr Mutasa.
Misodzi yangu yabuda neshungu ndichinzwa this speech. Lets make this speech go viral , zvavataura vamutasa zvinoita kunge zvinhu zvidiki kune vasina vision but it goes a long way in the way we see ourselves as Africans.
Being African doesn't mean we should sever everything to do with the English language/culture..In fat ,imo,English is now a part of the Zimbabwean identity he's so passionate about..The identity of a Zimbabwean from before colonization is very different from today's Zimbabwean..Because today's Zimbabwean has a part of him, culturally, that's English..Being African doesn't necessarily mean that you have absolutely nothing in common with the English culture..imo.
I agree with everything Dr Mutasa is saying in this speech. We as Africans should take ourselves out of the problems we have created for ourselves as Africans.

You need to brand it takes a strategy, investment and patient. You do not change names overnight just because they have a historical or colonial hangovers; thorough planning, research, consultation and feedback must be done Shingi
We've got good examples of those who rebranded their companies and strategically fit into the industry. Lafarge to indigenous Khayah cement. Your point is good, but it's kinda negative
How eloquent in the former masters language yet we can not understand each other in Shona and Ndebele not to mention the other dialects. I agree on the English names
Well as long as Shona (majority language) is the national language of Zimbabwe is not accepted as such there will always be a problem. Ndebele is a predominantly South African language.
Yet here we are commenting in English about a speech made in English..What does that tell you??English is and will always be part of who we are..It's now part of that identity that he likes mentioning..
English, the language n hence the culture,is now a part of Zimbabwean identity..That explains the naming of children English names..There's nothing wrong with it..
Colonialism had good and bad aspects..Let's not act like EVERYTHING about colonialism was bad.... When you adopt n become familiar with a language, you also adopt the culture..Bcz you can not separate language and culture..Zimbabweans naming their children English names is a good example of it..Zimbabweans have a part of them that is English..Bcz the English language, hence English culture,is part of who they are now..Shingie believes, mistakenly, that English is a completely foreign thing and Zimbabweans can ,and have to,completely separate them from anything culturally English..
Don't change names of already existing establishments that were built and named by their creators..This is like changing the name of a full grown adult..Build your own n name them whatever you want..

Practice makes perfect. The more you speak a language , the more you become familiar and comfortable with it, and hence, eloquence becomes 2nd nature
