Oh I remember this song. I actually remember being like... 10-12 years old, and watching this on the TV, dubbed over in Hungarian. They translated "lamb curry, you give it to me hot" as "lamb curry, you spicy beast", which is... also not great, but arguably so much better than the original. At least calling it a beast doesn't imply that he wants to make sweet, sweet tender love to the lamb curry. (I think they changed the melody pretty significantly too, but some poor person had to translate this mess, and then the voice actor they had dubbing Jamie had to sing it, which is just........ vile to think about. "Yeah, the weird chef I voice decided to make a reggae ballad about wanting to stick his dick into lamb curry, and now my workday is going to be singing it myself. Typical Tuesday as Jamie Oliver's VA.")

If this was made 15/16 years, it means it would've been made when I was studying abroad in the UK. From what I remember, there wasn't a reggae craze going on at the time. It was mostly dance music, pop, etc. He just, for some reason, decided to do a song in the style of reggae. He could've done dance, pop, etc. Or, better yet, he could've spent that time doing... almost anything else.

For example, early Police recordings has Sting singing in that accent (🎶"Roxanne, you don' have tah' put on da' red light, dose days ah ovah'..."🎵), which he, thankfully, fully abandoned by the late 80s. lol
@@silla-je9odno, he's wrong. Reggae has always been popular and appreciated in Britain. The bands and movements in the UK during the 70s and 80s were inspired by Reggae yes, they weren't just 'white Brit bands' though. Take for example _The Specials_ or _UB40_ a lot of _mixed-race_ bands, made as a result of cultures mingling in sub-urbs or cities, specifically after the arrival of the _Windrush generation._ A lot of this mingling lead to a new appreciation for Reggae but also the birth of several sub-genres such as _2 tone Ska_ and _Ska Punk._ These are the genres a lot of the 'Brit-bands' like The Police or Madness etc identify with. My dad grew up in the 80s as a 'Ska-kid', therefore I grew up listening to Ska and Reggae of which I obviously developed a deep love and appreciation for, as many Brits did and still do.
So to conclude, you're both wrong and you're to be forgiven seeming as you're obviously not British, but it's not really weird for Jamie to have produced a reggae tune in 90s or 00s UK and any odd assumption or leading narrative that this is somehow racially or politically incorrect is yet another example of how ridiculous this society is becoming.
*Edit: Sting didn't sing in any accent, that's his singing voice and it's only ever changed when he's felt the need. His voice in Roxanne is no different to Englishmen in New York, or his recent work with Shaggy for example.*

As someone who saw this live at one of his Australian shows about 15 years ago, let me just say I still get second hand embarrassment from this. However, it does not stop me from singing the chorus at every opportunity when Im cooking or eating Indian food.. catchy banger! Also I think its a polo player tshirt? Pre 2010 were dark times!!
