What challenge would you like to see next? Name the camera, lens, situation. Also, if you would like to download the RAW files you can do so right here bit.ly/2nHI535
What I love about this challenge its not about the camera its the game plan you had coming in... You understood your camera you understood the sport and you knew what shots you wanted...
dawfurby: there was great lighting in there so there was no need for him to raise up his ISO for better shutter speed. Even an old camera with have little to no noise at 100 or 200 iso
well that is how it works despite the new younger generation not knowing what they're doing with the camera most of the time they don't even know their history
Just got some photography jobs with my D70s this year. I never advertised and don't have a website or social media. People heard about me through word of mouth. I can't afford a nice lens for my new camera yet but my D70s takes fantastic pictures and will make me $75 dollars an hour for my first ongoing gig. I even got a portrait photography job on top of that. I went from taking bad pictures to taking top quality professional grade ones in just under a year. I bought a D70s, put it in manual mode, kept practicing, and eventually invested in better lenses. The D70s is a beast when you know what you are doing. People loved the pictures I took with it and I enjoyed their reactions when they asked what I used and I told them it was an old D70s.
Really great video. It shows that even if you don,t have the latest or cannot afford the newest equipment it does mean you still can,t have some great results with older gear. I have found out as you state it is all about the glass you use . Also it’s about loving what you do. Thanks again hope to see more future projects from you like this.
I love this concept. As much as I love my XT2, there’s still something magical about my old D90 and 50 1.8. It’s easy to get wrapped up in the gear and forget about technique.
Jared whats up man!! Your a pro genius bro. Shooting with the D70 with only 6.1 megapixels, is truly impressive. The shots areabsolutley amazing bro! Sometimes megapixels don't matter, and you proved it with this old but terrific camera. Great job man. I just subscribed. Now I'm a true fan!!! I'm getting a Nikon D700!! I can't wait man😀!!!
The D70 is to digital cameras what the DC3 was to airplanes - tough, well made, reliable, and still fun. I still use mine as a backup and love it. With good glass it takes great images. It just proves that the best thing to invest in is great lenses (f 2.8 or faster), and not worry about spending your hard-earned cash on the latest super high mexapixel body.
Since basketball is a very vertical game, are you using a single focus point for this? And where should I be trying to focus (chest or face) with the players moving so frequently?
I shot with a D70s for a long time (still have it) and produced some amazing images (portraits, animals, macro, etc.). I printed some at 13 x 19 and sold several of them.
RUclips strikes again, a 5 year old video pops up in my suggestions on a camera that I’ve been researching and you showed that in the right hands it is still usable.
A Nikon d60 with a 55-200 vr lens. It was my first Nikon and I've just given it to my 8 year old niece with it's 17-55 kit lens. What she can get with it is amazing
Excellent video Jared. it's actually quite inspiring. Just goes to show that you don't need to buy the latest and greatest camera to get good photos. I also really like these type of videos when it's just you and the camera. Kind of reminds me some of your older style videos.
Great video yet again, Jared. As an added bonus, you gave tips on how to capture additional footage for this video. Glass, glass, glass! One day I'll get there. Love the challenge video. Next time try kit glass that came out the same time the D70 did, to maybe show the difference in glass. Just my two cents.
Hey jared I use a nikon d2xs and when I take photos with any motion like someone running its goes blury do you know why or how I could stop this from happening
Your video made me dust off my Nikon D70. I attached my Tamron SP AF 200-500mm F/5-6.3 LD (IF) lens, but can't seem to get the AF mode to work...what am I missing here? Help!
I´d like to see a challenge where you´re using the D70 with affordable primes like the 50mm and 35mm 1.8. Or with an affordable fast zoom lens like the Sigma 17-50mm 2.8
Next to my Canon 6D, I still shoot with my Nikon D100 (a DSLR of 2002). Still nice to shoot with (except for the slow buffers) when you want this old effect (which is really hard to reproduce with modern Full Frame camera's I noticed).
great post Jared you did well to keep the grain down to a minimum A Nikon D70 fashon shoot using Nikon AF-S VR 105mm only and one speedlight on its plastic floor stand would be interesting to me
Great shots, would love to see how you processed the images with that noise. The DNG RAW files are noisy at 1600 ISO which is understandable given it is a D70 but you were still able to pull off some really great shots at 1/400 sec ( action shots ) and your final processed images are very clean. I have the hardest time shooting indoor events with my d810 at indoor events because the lighting is generally so bad and inconsistent ( indoor bubble turf stadium with really poor fluorescent lighting ). If I shot at 1/400 sec to keep my ISO at a respectable range then none of my images would be sharp and definitely underexposed...Generally I'm shooting at a minimum of 1/800 and 1/1600 sec, f/2.8 ISO 3200 or 6400, problem is the noise levels....
i am really curious what settings u used in terms of iso, I'm using a D60 with only 3 focus points and i feel getting the right iso is my biggest struggle.
How do you set the focus on those fast actions? I use an older Canon EOS rebel t3 and the autofocus is a bit slow on my lenses. I could use some adivce on that^^
Good work! I always get let down by the noise of the older cameras, but here I see you embracing it. Goes to show, it's all about the shot and not necessarily the technical aspect of the shot.
I did a video with a D70s and a Rebel XTI shooting a live concert and compared. The cameras were more than capable of doing the job. While it is nice to have the latest gear, it's not necessary when starting out.
Hey Jared really appreciate your videos I’ve lerant a lot from your videos. I would like to know can we focus better with less focus points in sports photography.
Fun video! I really liked the concept. One thing that I might like to see is something like this using Pro glass from previous eras - still AF, but older stuff. I use an 80-200 f/2.8 Nikkor (push pull) a lot and while the AF isn't as fast as the current pro lenses, it works really well. Also, maybe some portrait work using the Pro level AI/AI-S lenses?
To second my other comment, try the Helios 44-2 58mm f2 film lens for a portrait photoshoot, I've used it and found that the bokeh is really smooth. You will have to have a adapter but you can find them on eBay for around 8$ and you can find the Helios for about 50$ on eBay too.
Thank you for the video, we have a D70 at home but now it’s having some trouble, some times my son will loss all the pictures.....due an error showing. Any idea what could be the problem?
I used a D70 and D70S for years. A seldom-remarked feature is that those bodies had a max flash sync of 1/500th of a second, a big advantage for using flash outdoors. REPLY
What challenge would you like to see next? Name the camera, lens, situation. Also, if you would like to download the RAW files you can do so right here bit.ly/2nHI535
same camera or the d3000 series with the tamron glass you got sent. maybe with the d7500
Shoot from a helicopter with the D70!
pro camera and cheap lens at a concert or street photo
A portrait shoot with the Nikon D700 and a manual focus 85mm
Portrait shoot m4/3 camera, if you want it difficult, then try to use only the kit lens.
I would love to see some street photography with a kit lens
Kit lenses aren't bad
I love this D70 challenge. It really reinforces the fact that it takes a great photographer to make great photographs. Not just the gear alone.
What I love about this challenge its not about the camera its the game plan you had coming in... You understood your camera you understood the sport and you knew what shots you wanted...
David Galeon I want to see what noise he has in these photos. No way in hell these are remotely usable.
dawfurby: there was great lighting in there so there was no need for him to raise up his ISO for better shutter speed. Even an old camera with have little to no noise at 100 or 200 iso
well that is how it works despite the new younger generation not knowing what they're doing with the camera most of the time they don't even know their history

The D70 is just as good now as it was when it was new.
Oh nostalgia :)
I think these new challenge videos are gold. This shows people to shoot with what the have. They can know, by your videos that GAS is futile!
True, but those where still some ugly ass shots, extremely ugly.
I love this concept. As much as I love my XT2, there’s still something magical about my old D90 and 50 1.8. It’s easy to get wrapped up in the gear and forget about technique.
Can you try shooting with a lower quality cheap lens on the d70?
Jared whats up man!! Your a pro genius bro. Shooting with the D70 with only 6.1 megapixels, is truly impressive. The shots areabsolutley amazing bro! Sometimes megapixels don't matter, and you proved it with this old but terrific camera. Great job man. I just subscribed. Now I'm a true fan!!! I'm getting a Nikon D700!! I can't wait man😀!!!

Loved this! More D70 stuff, please!
RUclips strikes again, a 5 year old video pops up in my suggestions on a camera that I’ve been researching and you showed that in the right hands it is still usable.
Jared, what accessorie did you use for placing a go pro on the hot shoe in dslr?
A Nikon d60 with a 55-200 vr lens. It was my first Nikon and I've just given it to my 8 year old niece with it's 17-55 kit lens. What she can get with it is amazing
d70 landscapes and street photography with the 18-55 vr2 kit lens or some macro with the 40mm 2.8 DX
Excellent video Jared. it's actually quite inspiring. Just goes to show that you don't need to buy the latest and greatest camera to get good photos. I also really like these type of videos when it's just you and the camera. Kind of reminds me some of your older style videos.
Jared is there any way to get photos from Nikon D70 to a Chromebook tap top, or do I need to get a different tap top?
It’s glass, glass, glass and the photographer. The body is tertiary. You don’t need a $4000 camera; they make you lazy.
Well they make you broke not sure if they make you lazy any photographer can be lazy when's the last time you seen one with a tripod
No, you just need $2800 glass? wow. talk about lazy.
Great video. Love the challenges with the older D70.
@jaredpolin should u go by the focus in that tiny circle? or the parameter?
Great video yet again, Jared. As an added bonus, you gave tips on how to capture additional footage for this video. Glass, glass, glass! One day I'll get there. Love the challenge video. Next time try kit glass that came out the same time the D70 did, to maybe show the difference in glass. Just my two cents.
How about Nikon N80, 50mm 1.8g and street photography?
Hey jared I use a nikon d2xs and when I take photos with any motion like someone running its goes blury do you know why or how I could stop this from happening
Jared can you use nikond7100 using a 18-140mm kit lens for your 5min portrait?
Thanks and have a nice day
SO you were shooting at 2.8 all the time , right??? Because the 70-200 E version is not compatible with the D70........
Sony Nex 7 macro foto 90mm 2.8 or portrets witch ligths off camera.
I want to know what ISO you were shooting?
Question from a guy just starting my research into this. Do you have to use an editor on the photos to get them to pop like that?
Can you do a nikon d7100 5min portrait ?
Your video made me dust off my Nikon D70.
I attached my Tamron SP AF 200-500mm F/5-6.3 LD (IF) lens, but can't seem to get the AF mode to work...what am I missing here?

The camera was meant to go up to 4gb HD CF. Otherwise 2Gb is the standard for it. They will generally NOT support anything above 2Gb.
Would have really liked to see this shot with older glass like you did with the d1x. Would be interesting to see you deal with the slower af
My first Nikon DSLR.
Loved that camera
That was good stuff and a great challenge.
I carry my D70 as a site alongside my D500. Totally different caliber of camera, but still takes good pictures.
Same but with D80 and D600
Sir plz tell is nikon d70 is compatible with external screen
In my opinion you've told the story of the day very well indeed👌🏽 The variety of photos that you've showed are all great. Thanks for your teaching🙏
I like the Grandmaster Flash music at 3:10 :)
Go with new D5600 or D3400 and nikon dx kits lens like 18-140 or 70-300 af-p and 35mm dx and take indoor sport photos .Thank you
great post Jared you did well to keep the grain down to a minimum
A Nikon D70 fashon shoot using Nikon AF-S VR 105mm only and one speedlight on its plastic floor stand would be interesting to me
I love those shots of the band director and the out of focus band playing! Thanks for putting out content like this, really enjoy your videos!
That's a pretty standard picture every photographer has one of these pictures not like its original thinking it's just the way it works
id really like this challenge with lenses of third party brands like sigma or tamron, same focal length and F number, just with tamron or sigma
Enjoying these challenges quite a bit, love seeing real world examples that it's not all about the gear. Thanks!
Great shots, would love to see how you processed the images with that noise. Try 5d classic
i am really curious what settings u used in terms of iso, I'm using a D60 with only 3 focus points and i feel getting the right iso is my biggest struggle.
@2:34 Nikon D70 / D70s can only use CF Card of 4GB or smaller.
Great video, pls Nikon D300 with kit lenses (55-200mm and 18-55mm). Do some studio shots
Sir what about a beginner level camera and a beginner lens like (18-55 or 70-300)
How do you set the focus on those fast actions?
I use an older Canon EOS rebel t3 and the autofocus is a bit slow on my lenses. I could use some adivce on that^^
2018 and im still rocking the 5d original!! great video!
What about with a 50mm 1.8 F
It's all great , I really like the music too .
Hey great video! really love the studio setup and it had an overall great flow to it!
Good work! I always get let down by the noise of the older cameras, but here I see you embracing it. Goes to show, it's all about the shot and not necessarily the technical aspect of the shot.
Did you or can you shoot sports with a single point? In af single or I’d have to be in afc no matter what to capture action
How did you shoot a Temple home game in didn't capture any of the Temple team?
I go to Temple in was wondering the same thing? lol
Go USF Bulls!! 😃
Nikon D90 with Nikon af 70-300 non vr plz, for sports, challenge
Mad skills you got there. Just awesome!
I did a video with a D70s and a Rebel XTI shooting a live concert and compared. The cameras were more than capable of doing the job. While it is nice to have the latest gear, it's not necessary when starting out.
Shoot with the d70 and the kit lenses
The D70 had a great kit lens. I have it set up on a d3300 for everyday carry.
Canon rebel T4i/D650 with the 18-55mm kit lens sunset shoot
nikon d3100 with 18-55 55-300 kit lens pls..................
Can we make video in nikon d70
love the ccd color!
The shoot was so cool 👌
Hey Jared really appreciate your videos I’ve lerant a lot from your videos. I would like to know can we focus better with less focus points in sports photography.
Jared I like this kind of videos this is more to what I can relate. Good job!
Great job, enjoyed the video. How many pictures did you take, and what was the percentage of keepers?

use the d 70 with the tamron 18- 400 mm for soccer (or any sport)
Thank you for the video, we have a D70 at home but now it’s having some trouble, some times my son will loss all the pictures.....due an error showing. Any idea what could be the problem?
Replace the cf card slot in the camera. In had the same problem with my d70s.
Great trip down memory lane. Although you forgot the strobes. D70 Syncs at 1/500.
Please try the Sony A77M2 with affordable and expensive lenses.
How about doing a photo shoot with the D90 with some good glass. I have a D90 and wander what you think of it.
Great video,
I would love to see some night photography with any vintage Nikon and a wide angle lens
Would be a really good video to see
Can also try a Fujifilm finepix S3pro
I used a D70 and D70S for years. A seldom-remarked feature is that those bodies had a max flash sync of 1/500th of a second, a big advantage for using flash outdoors.
REPLY
I love how you do the video accompaniment with the shots. I may have to use that format. I'll credit you.
canon t3 kit lens
I like how you iterated that it's the lenses that matter, not the body; a lot more people need to know that.
you should us a Olympus e-1 (which is a 4mp dslr) with the kit lens 14-45mm 3.5-5.6 do portraits shots.
Do you remember what your settings were when you photographed the game?
Action with Nikon F3 any lenses.
Why dont you say jaredpolinfromfroknowphotofotcom?? I was waiting it at the end
Amazing video you are real legend!!
Canon 800d and kit lens 18-55mm try basketball or soccer
I love what you are doing with the old bodies but I think it would be awesome if you can try old lenses and maybe film lenses with new bodies.
I dont know if DRev still do this but I remember watching a series called ProPhotog-Cheap-Camera
Jared, why don't you shoot with speedlights and make some tutorials on it?
Use the nikon d5 with a kit lens (18-55)
it's crop only dude
Chris Leustean you could put it in crop mode then
