Good practice once a month, as it's recommended in the owners manual. It's a shift on the fly so no need to come to a full stop and neutral to engage 4Hi. Only to engage 4Low u have to completely stop and neutral then 4Hi engaged first and then 4Low. It won't engage directly from 2hi to 4Low.
Thank you, I have a SR5 premium and I haven't been able to engage 4low, I can't find anything online to see if the SR5 is able to do it, but I will try this today.
My owners manual states to activate 4WD for 10 miles monthly. I found a decent 5 mile trail that I drive 5miles in 4L (limit is 10mph) then drive back in 4H (limit is 55mph).

Thanks Morpheus I didn’t know it said that? Well I’ll have to find somewhere around Sarasota that I can do that. Thanks 😎
when not in 4wd, is the default drive on the rear or front axle...thnx
rear
Why don’t you turn while on 4H?
How often should you engage 4 Lo? Thanks
Do you have to pop it in neutral? I thought you could engage 4x4h while driving under 50mph while still in D
Yes, you can engage four-wheel-drive high on the fly. I don’t know about 50 miles an hour? But certainly on the fly. 😎
That was a 4Runner Trail. Steelies and the basket give it away.
Thanks Mike for clearing that up. I couldn’t hear the guy very well. 😎
I have to do it also on my new 21 4runner I have never known this because I did not read the manual, thx u will start doing it

Thanks for commenting James. Congrats on the 4R. Set your reminder to engage that baby or better yet do some wheeling. 😎
