Mary Lou was the mother of many of the greats in jazz. All of the modern innovators of the idiom sought her council, instruction and collaboration. She was a trailblazer on so many levels as to be in a class by herself. This insipid, sad old Republic should erect a world class music and arts center in her honor. There could be some redemption yet.
