Mary Lou Williams was an artistic embodiment of the history of jazz as she herself states at the beginning of this show. She stands alone in this tremendous accomplishment. What a great musician!
Mary Lou Williams and Carline Ray, what a BEAUTIFUL performance!!! So sorry I didn't get the chance to meet Mary Lou but glad I had the opportunity to meet Caroline Ray through the wonderful pianist and composer Emme Kemp. Mary Lou is the First Lady of Jazz and a very important figure in the development of jazz. Thank you so much for sharing this wonderful remembrance!!!
I am so happy to catch up to the music I missed when I was running around patronizing NYC underground clubs when she performed this. Thanks Alan for posting.

Mary Lou used to play at Cookery, down in Village quite regularly.
I was thinking also of The Cookery, where Alberta Hunter held forth after her postponed nursing career retirement.
@@soshiekeys Saw her there as well. Both ladies left an indelible impression on me, especially how to play the Blues.
