Mark Pedowitz hasn't been involved with the CW since 2022. So based on the first 50secs of this video, it is VERY out of date.
The "new" CW have officially DROPPED the B5 reboot (along with almost everything else), concentrating more on cheap, disposable, "reality" TV crap for their programming.
At last count, according to JMS himself, WB were considering making the show themselves, either for HBO Max or for a third party streaming service - but this decision was delayed by the writers & actors strike.
Best of my knowledge, a final decision has not been publicised.

Except that B5 is infamously "cursed" by the fact that most of the original cast died soon after completing the series.
There will be no reboot with the original cast. You might have one or two cameos from surviving cast members, but that's about it.

Without Babylon 5, we might not have series like Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones, Batttlestar Galactica (2004 series) and so many others. It proved that high concept, well written shows in a serial format can work. People aren't only looking for episodic shows where each episode is self contained, we wanted continuity. We wanted a narrative where each episode had us paying close attention to all details. We wanted engagement.

as a standard Babylon 5 fan I see the bigger picture in warfare , so that being said , I was thinking about a cross over and star trek would not be good . A good cross over would be that the technomages (or whats left of them) show b5 explorers how to meet other explorers by taking them "off the beacon" to an abandoned supergate/stargate that links to the outer range of the Destiny or a 9th chevron address .even if its just a few episodes I think the B5 and stargate universes would mesh quite well ...Also stargate team/cast are eager to continue their stories too. PLEASE Mr Straczynski I know you are very protective of your baby but a child has to have friends.

One of the basic issues of Babylon 5 was it's an expensive program with respect to its funding infrastructure. (For example, Star Trek had a significantly bigger "war chest" to fund programs. While Babylon 5 does not.) Every season ended with the audience crossing their fingers while hoping for series renewal. There were several periods of the series ending up in limbo as it was one of the last announcements for renewal. The financial issues really do not interest fans; however, it is at the heart of projects happening or not.

Personally I would of gone with the new show being based on Babylon 4 During its time in the first war shadow war or after being rediscovered sometime after “ sleeping in the light “ say by being placed in mothballs at he end of the war or being time jumped forward for some reason ( just to say I was never a big fan of “ crusade “ and be happy to see it reckoned out )

The series was too perfect for a from the ground up reboot. If they want to pick it up sometime after Sheraton's passing that would be fine, but leave the original alone.

I am a hard core B5 fan and i am not excited about them butchering the original story. Leave it alone, if you want to flesh out the B5 universe and add to it then fine i am all in for that. As for redoing the whole thing fuck that, a lot of the legends that made B5 what it was are now gone and can never ever be replaced. Simply out of respect leave it alone go make another story in the B5 universe.
Eh, I can see your point but I can't really agree with it. The original show will alwys be there for you....I've still got all the DVD boxed sets, and you probably do too.
But the farther we go into the future, the harder it is to sell a retro '90s show to today's audiences. If JMS can keep the quality of the writing up, I'd be happy to give it a shot.
Think of it like BSG. The existence of the 2000s show doesn't erase the original '70s version. And however much I don't think it ended very well, BSG 2000s was a great show with some incredible episodes that really grab you. If b5 v2 can do the same? Then go for it. Might as well do it now with JMS alive and still in charge than wait another decade until some other guy is the one doing it just for the brand recognition. At least this way we know the guy in charge cares about getting the story right!

Look at all the reboots and how fucked up they are now. Look at all the trouble with Ryan and Disney over deadpool 3. I dont have faith that JMS can fight all that. @@warshrike666 Eh, I think it's too early to worry about that. It's not on Disney+ where all the edges are going to get sanded off (Andor aside). I'm more concerned about what it says in this video that the B5 reboot is still supposed to be coming out on the CW. I'd thought that it had been dropped by CW and picked up by MAX, but this video says otherwise. I had concerns about the CW giving the show adequate funding BEFORE they canceled all the Arrow-verse shows and went super cheap with their remaining output. Granted, if anyone can make B5v2 work on a shoestring budget, it's JMS who put together the original show for half as much per episode as the Trek shows that were airing at the same time, but even so I'm worried about visual quality. Today's modern digital 4k cameras don't let you get away with cheap sets and dodgy alien makeup the way you could back in the '90s. To say nothing about how far digital effects have gone compared to the old days, both in quality but especially in expense.
Historically, JMS was pretty good about standing up to the suits. Yes, they made him include "a hotshot fighter pilot" in season two, but JMS used him for the bare minimum number of episodes he contractually had to, then killed him at the end of the season, and the suits quit meddling.
But speaking of Doctor Who, that does seem to be a viable comparison. After all, Russel T. Davies is back showrunning Who after 15 years away from the show. And personally, I don't think the new Who specials he produced (ironically enough on Disney+) were all that different from his first run on the show, even if bringing back Tennant and Tate for three of them was the height of self-indulgence. Gatwa's first solo special was pretty fun, and I'm actually looking forward to his full series this spring.
Maybe the new B5 will suck. Maybe there will be studio meddling, dodgy effects, B- and C- tier actors, and no meaningful advertising budget and all of that will contribute to the show being a wasted effort.

I do not understand how u can like the new Dr Who i will not watch it i havn't since they turned him into a woman. Dr Who and Bab 5 are my most most fav Sci-fi i was watching Dr Who in the 70's thats how old i am. That is also why i am so disgusted by it now, it is not Who anymore and hasn't been since Mat Smith left who imo was better then Tenant. @@warshrike666 To each their own. I've been watching Who since the early '80s, starting with Tom Baker reruns on PBS. Every Sunday night, watch Benny Hill, Dave Allen at Large, then Dr. Who. And I'll agree that Matt Smith was my favorite of the New Who Doctors, followed by Capaldi. And for that matter, I didn't care for the Chibnall/Whitaker era of Who, though though where we differ is that It didn't bother me that they gender flipped the Doctor. After all, Missy was my favorite version of the Master since Delgado. No, what bothered me about Chibnall's era was the writing, and that it was a mistake to introduce three companions at the same time. Every time there werre multiple companions in the past, they were introduced gradually so you got to know them as they went along. Adric, then Tegan, then Nyssa. Amy, then Rory. Dumping three new companions all at once made it hard to connect to any of them, especially whle trying to get to know a new Doctor at the same time!
For all that, Chibnall's gone and Davies is back. If you liked the Tennant/Davies era, you should at least give the specials a shot. Mybe you won't like 'em. Certainly possible. But I thought they were decent, and I actually quite enjoyed he final one of the four.
I am generally apprehensive of reboots, but if it means more Babylon 5, I'm so ready for it! I'm not thrilled with this video. It didn't say anything about 'everything we know' it was all about the show's past and speculation about the future - not facts. Do better, please. The title is very misleading about the reboot information.

Is the new one going to be gay and woke? I get a bit nervous whenever they say "new" or "modern" audience.
Delenn was originally going to be male and then change to female during her transformation, but they couldn't get the voice change software to modify the actress's voice authentically enough and abandoned the idea. If technology had allowed, the original show would have been much more queer with a very direct portrayal of a trans character that undergoes transition onscreen. What we got can still be read as a trans allegory quite easily.
Talia and Ivanova were always intended to be a lesbian couple. That was interrupted by Andrea Thompson leaving the show.
And isn't there an episode where Marcus and Stephen go undercover casually as a gay couple?

Most people don't want woke and gay. Maybe you do, but every franchise they do that with crashes. They lose money, they can't sell toys, and they also can't sell it in China where gay scenes are illegal.

As far as franchises crashing over being "woke and gay," I haven't noticed that as a trend. I *have* noticed things like the Barbie movie being wildly successful despite the "woke" messaging in it being clunky, heavy-handed, and milquetoast (from my perspective as a "woke gay," at least). It seems to me like bluntly pandering halfheartedly towards liberal values is wildly successful in today's market. Even the banks are doing it! (Which I find kinda annoying, if I'm being honest.. Rainbow capitalism isn't exciting at all.)
But be honest, when you wrote your first post, were you expressing that you were worried about the show not making money, or were you worried about having to face that cringe feeling? A "re-imagined" universe would be great. A multiverse view is interesting too. Don't mess with the original. I would even like a high quality animation which would further set it apart from the original. In whatever vision, the stories and characters must be inspiring. The state of doom and gloom in media is no longer wanted.

Well its not like a true continuation was even possible considering more than half the princial cast is dead and buried.
I also dont have a lot of faith in this project. While Strazinski produced some good TV, most of his resume is kinda mid to downright terrible. His time has came and went.
I dont see him being able to produce something more engaging to modern audience by basically rebooting the series while removing the 1990s trappings it is dressed in. There are a lot of reasons why DS9 was the better show and now looking back one is timeless and one is painfully dated.
