I'm from UK. I used grey foam pipe cladding from DIY shop instead as I couldn't find a pool noodle. I found it to be very cheap and it was already scored so it could fit round a pipe or in my case support my diamond painting!
Idea...once you cut the noodle, slide the opposite end of DP into the far end of noodle, sliding it along whole length. Less trouble than pushing it in, I think! P.s. new here and loving the info!!
A couple of ideas for all you DPers. First, when I first got started diamond painting, I couldn't find a pool noodle to save my life. Then I remembered at Home Depot they sell pipe insulation that is basically a black pool noodle with a straight slit down the length that you can choose to open up or leave sealed. Second, if you are lucky enough to find that elusive pool noodle and you want a straight cut, use some straight pins to pin your canvas to the noodle, then cut the noodle following the edge of your canvas. The straight pins won't hurt your canvas since it is cloth.
You can cut through to the center of the noodle and it holds its shape. It would be so much easier to insert the canvas this way. But it's a wonderful idea. I'm cutting my noodle right now...lol
Ok! That is good to know for the next one! I plan to reuse this one so I can just cut it down the rest of the way on that one to make it easier. Thanks!
hey Doni when i watched Ella make hers she only cut it almost to the end not all the way down and like almost slide it in there you go... !!! and i got really nice large large clips like 6 for $1 at dollar tree she uses the same ones look into it
I would use a pair of scissors instead of a blade knife. If the knife were ever to shift the wrong way, you could lose either a finger or slice into your palm. I trust scissors more than I do a knife blade. I'm very cautious while using any type of cutting equipment. You can cut the noodle half way thru to put your canvas in to hold it in place. The noodle is made of Styrofoam and it will hold it's shape nicely.
Here's an idea: Taking a dowel with the same size diameter of the inside of the pool noodle and stick inside, Then take a draw (if you can) a straight line down before cutting. This way you're not cutting the noodle in half. I know it's extra steps but,...... it might be worth a shot. Good luck!! (Trish)
Oh yes, that would be a great idea! The only issue for me would be going out to find a dowel just the right size and getting it cut the size of the inside. Much easier to just go buy a new noodle if I messed it up lol. I live in a small town. We have a dollar tree with noodles, but no Home Depot or Lowes for dowels. But if someone has one, that would be a perfect idea! Thanks for the tip!
Very good job. I just bought some pool noodles in case I need them. I got my mom a Lighthouse painting for Mothers day. I think 60x60. She is going to do it herself. I think we might use half or three quarters of a noodle to set it up. I am interested how your doing to follow a pattern sheet with the blank canvas. I was thinking of getting a pattern from HAED.
I was watching another diamond painter doing a custom and I cannot, for the life of me, remember who it was. They sized their custom pattern so that each square was 2.5mm (ie drill size), then printed it off and stuck it on top of the light pad so the light shone through the paper and the canvas. When I saw it I thought I must pass this onto Doni
Yes! I didn't see this, but I saw a picture of one on the HAED facebook page. She printed it off at her work. She did it on those sticker pages or something. But it was a special printer and it was very large. So I'm guessing not the average Joe can get ahold of something like that. It would be nice though if the Xerox store had this capability. Though they would probably be too pricey.
Well aren't you the clever lady. Your noodle technique would work well for a longer than wide smaller painting. Very cool idea. With a whole bunch of us doing DP the stores are going to wonder about the run on noodles!
Haha, I'm not sure if you can get the pool noodles outside of the summer season, so I may stock up on a few before they are all gone. Dollar store is great for this kind of thing! I actually saw another video where they did this. I think it was Megan. I will have to go look again and give credit where credit is due :)
I live in the Desert near Palm Springs so there better be an ample supply for all the tourists year round ! I think I better get some before they all descend on Walmart
I have a cousin who lives in Redlands. We try to get out there once a year. We have 2 seasons up here. Summer and Rain haha. So we only have that sort of thing for a few short months a year.
My dp had an area that wasn't covered with the paper as well, but it still sticks enough for the diamonds to stick so don't worry. You could always use some strong glue i you don't think it will hold the diamonds. Xx from the Netherlands :) Ps: i'm really enjoying this series hahaha
Great! Thanks for the information! Awesome! It's so neat to see people from around the world watching me :) Welcome to my channel and I"m glad you are enjoying it :)
Do I, thanks for all of your videos! I received a canvas that has no sticky at all. What should I do? Call them or just send the company a note? It is from Zhenjiang China. I have not had this happen before so not sure of the first step to approach the problem. Can you advise? Thanks! Karen G.
I am so sorry that it took me so long to get to your comment. Sometimes when you reply on an older video, the comment gets buried way way down the feed. Definitely contact the seller and ask for a new canvas!
My thinking is that if I did that, it wouldn't have the same support because the noodle would then be able to collapse. I could be wrong, but I didn't want to take the chance and not be able to go out to get another one until the next day :)
Yeah, it is in there pretty tight. Another viewer did say though that you can cut it through all the way and it works fine. So I am going to try that on the next one :D
i kinda fore saw that , I do cross stitch and if you are going to start it has to counted to the right place . if you have you canvas on the side you'll need to turn your pattern as well . i dont envy you , this looks really hard, i can cross stitch on aida like this but not on the canvas . good luck , i'll be watching for sure , i want to see this , the pattern you chose is gorgeous. but huge lol and i know why , the detail should be perfect. i hope i said all this right . hugs Jo
I understand what you are saying :) I could have still started at the top right or the bottom right, but this canvas clearly has a top and a bottom. I would have had to unroll it and then tuck the canvas into the noodle on the opposite side though and I didn't want to bother. Wanted to get started right then! Can't blame me though, can you? haha
oh heck no way , I get this excited about all the crafts I do . and I do a lot . I need another craft like a hole in the head . Its terrible and its really hard for me to say no more . I got 4 on the way . I have to stop myself everytime I go look for another ones lol, and they got some good sales going on at Ali oh my goodness. I cant wait to see of what you are doing , Its going to be great !!
Just put the cut noodles on my DP... if you slice the noodle to the center you can put one corner in the slot and slide it all the way up. Canvas goes on very easily... no tucking edges in...thank you for the tip... works great!
I will still be reusing the noodle. Same concept with a smaller piece, but on those, I won't have a choice but to tape them to it, or use clips to hold it onto that end of it to the noodle.
Hi ! New to your channel. Love your videos. Learning alot with the diamond art. Question? Did you find the canvas the size you have 113 or did you specially order it ? My daughter is looking for a size about that big. Thanks for sharing n taking out the time to answer my question.
I did custom order it. You can see me walk you through the steps on getting it in the Part One of the series. Here is the link for it. ruclips.net/video/LTKY9jhBFRE/видео.html

I am preparing my upload now of my first drill session, so you will see how I fare at it LOL

i used a butter knife to slide in inside since i knew the dull end wouldn't harm the canvas

if i may ask a question , why didn't you cut the noodle right to the center. it would have been so much easier

yeah ok i see what you mean , it might be too loose , yeah yeah i get it now lol . looked like what you did worked any how , smart cookie =) hugs jo

Ugh, no way would I do a blank one following a pattern. Good luck!
Haha, thanks!
Just put the cut noodles on my DP... if you slice the noodle to the center you can put one corner in the slot and slide it all the way up. Canvas goes on very easily... no tucking edges in...thank you for the tip... works great!
Awesome! I plan to do that on my next one! Thanks for sharing your trial of the pool noodle roll :)
Could you have taped it to the noodle? Then you could keep reusing.
I will still be reusing the noodle. Same concept with a smaller piece, but on those, I won't have a choice but to tape them to it, or use clips to hold it onto that end of it to the noodle.
