I remembered that Alan Thicke had a talk show. And I've seen the performance clips of this band on there. But I was surprised at how intelligent and competent Alan was as an interviewer. That was really well done.
I was working at a college radio station back in the 80s when these guys were big. I was intrigued by them when I first saw their "Rank and File" music vid, and was able to play stuff off of both of their albums (at the time, there were only 2). I still like 'em. It was sad that cowpunk never really made it; there was a lot of good music out there, and in my opinion, Rank and File were the kings of the hill.
These guys were the most talented in LA, imho. The fact they weren't HUGE is a travesty! I loved all their incarnations, but especially R&F and Blackbird. Sigh..... Thanks for posting this!
That was a good interview. I only heard about this band years ago when I was singing the Everlys' version to myself at work. A work buddy overheard me and we got talking and traded versions. My friend described the Ev's version as "sounded like a train" which I guess it kinda does. I love the Ev's version and I hope these guys got a big kick (and good money) from the Ev's doing it in '85.
It's a funny thing, panther, I work in television all the time and I never yet heard of an artist telling the cameras what to shoot, that's always up to the producer and the director. Don't blame the brothers for what they have no control over, even if they ARE the "bandleaders" and the obvious focus of Alan's attention....
I toured with them as a roadie/guitar tech/drum tech for 3 and a half weeks in Jan. 85
--great bunch of guys too. Had the time of my life.

Seems hip and sharp as a whip

Did you ever follow the alt-country scene? Uncle Tupelo is a band that seemed to pick up where cowpunk left off.
There was also Jason & The scorchers
@@eternallife9786 I think they came around after I was out of radio, but I know who you’re talking about.
@@quahogshell I did a little. There was only one alt-country station in my area, and they had less operating power than a walkie-talkie. 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Nice interview by Thicke. Impressive.
A surprisingly good interview for a late-night talk show.
Very underrated band
Remember Madam Wong's West in LA. Rank and File played there. They were great!!! HEY ALAN HAYNES PLAYS IN AUSTIN today!!!!!
It breaks my heart that ya'll got so burned ...by "corporate music"! You deserved sooooo much better than the recognition you were robbed of.
What song(s) did they play on this show?
another fine band that bounced off the idiot face of commercial music...
