Definitely one of the saddest of the Charlie Brown specials. I mean, how could nobody give a Valentine to Charlie Brown. And to add insult to injury, CB brings a briefcase with him to school because he worries that he wouldn't be able to carry all the Valentines he was going to get. Oh Charlie! LOL
Valentine Interlude 2 16:05 is one of the saddest scores in this special. Charlie Brown, looking and feeling inside that box, only for it to be empty. So sad.
18:26 Vince Guaraldi's music here really delivers the saddest scene in perhaps Peanuts' saddest special. Every time I watched this as a kid, I never knew why but THIS was the piece that would stay in my head for days. Now after getting into music I can appreciate all the elements that make it so sad. Everything from the soft electric Rhodes piano to the orchestral synth to the blues guitar lines all build this deep sadness, expressing the loneliness that both Charlie Brown and Linus feel in that scene.
I know how Charlie Brown feels. That was me in the second grade and not much has chance since then. Good luck Charlie Brown hang in there old friend. Thanks for the post Spetragl.
One of Guaraldi's best… The music cues for this soundtrack and presumably some extras will be getting an official release on CD and vinyl LP on January 17, 2025 by Lee Mendelson Film Productions.
What a difference! Now THIS is how a Guaraldi soundtrack album should sound (it sounds better than the GREAT PUMPKIN disappointment from Concord). It helps that several tracks were released by David Guaraldi in the late 2000s (though those are in mono). Great work.
I totally hear you. I love the sound of Fender Rhodes and ARP String-Ensemble too. I was raised in a large part on that sound back in the '70s...for example, "It's All Over" by Ohio Players.
I don't hear very much Hammond organ in this soundtrack. But in fact the Fender Rhodes and ARP String synthesizer are used much more often, in addition to Vince's standard acoustic piano.
You are correct. Even though it was documented in Derrick Bang's book "Vince Guaraldi At The Piano" that he used a "Hammond organ", many viewers (from the previous post) correctly heard the "Fender Rhodes and ARP synthesizer" instead.
It used to be you could watch It's Valentine's Day Charlie Brown on TV I guess everything is changed it's no longer on cuz I can't find it that's really rotten I have grandchildren that like to watch it
Apparently not. According to Derrick Bang, these are the tracks: You're Not Elected, Charlie Brown (10/29/72) 01. Incumbent Waltz 02. You're Not Elected, Charlie Brown [vocal] 03. Oh, Good Grief 04. Fast Piano Jazz 05. Blue Charlie Brown 06. Incumbent Waltz 07. Trombone [Teacher talks] 08. Linus and Lucy 09. Poor Charlie Brown 10. Joe Cool [vocal] 11. Incumbent Waltz 12. Dilemma 13. Woodstock's Wake-Up 14. Joe Cool 15. Oh, Good Grief 16. Deserted Charlie Brown 17. You're Not Elected, Charlie Brown 18. Linus and Lucy 19. You're Not Elected, Charlie Brown
This music is so chill...I play it for my 3 year old daughter when she has fits, and she calms down almost immediately - lol

By far my favorite Charlie Brown movie - so emotional, so sad and uplifting at the right times 🫶🏽
Happy Valentine's Day in 1 month! ❤
The Heartburn Waltz is gold! Same for the beginning of Paw Pet Show Overture!
Happy Valentine’s Day, Charlie Brown ❣️💖💘💕💞💓💗💟🩷❤️🤍😍🥰😘💌💐🌷🌹

Happy 47th anniversary to Be My Valentine, Charlie Brown.
One of my favorite Peanuts specials. One of my favorite soundtracks. I used to look forward to this special every year when it would come on CBS/ABC.

"There's Been a Change" really sums up the whole episode.
3 Peanuts soundtracks in 3 days? Incredible.
I didn’t think he could do it, but he did!
Although I enjoy watching the other Charlie Brown/Peanuts features more, this one has the best soundtrack, imo
Happy Valentine’s Day, Charlie Brown❣️ ❤️💞💕💝💘💖💗💓💟💌🌹🌷💐😘🥰😍

Amazing to hear! I look forward to it
My favorite music to listen to on valentines day 💕
Love this music
All peanuts music is gold!
This soundtrack has always touched me like nothing else I’ve heard in life.
She said my name! Did you hear that? Did you hear her actually say my name?

I released an upgraded "pumpkin" last night; have a listen.

This is a gold mine
Thank you so much
great to hear my all-time favorite in HQ!
I love this playlist so much💖
Heartburn Waltz has this way about it that gets me happy and sad. A perfect piece (also paw pet Overture is so fun!!)
This soundtrack is what got me into the Fender Rhodes and ARP string ensemble. I love this.

thank you
😍😍😍😍 Nostalgic!!!
I just noticed that at 7:29, during Freddie's Mood, you can hear someone say something. I wonder if it's Vince?
13:49 I've always wondered what the music behind Sally sounded like alone.

Yes, and it's a lovely spacey sound.
The ARP Solina String Ensemble and Fender Rhodes compliment each other well. Love those sounds.
✨PureClassic✨
19:51 nice groovy samba jazz.

Apple TV has it! My son loves Charlie Brown:)
19:51 my favorite music
6:35 Today's Drama is a Love Story
Pawpet show is my favorite. So is heartbreak waltz 2, Freddie's mood, and woodstock's revenge.
Great music. So nice to have this in the clear without the other audio. Thanks!
I love these
The 1st three are my favorite

but 1:16 takes the game 🎯
The version of "There's Been a Change" at 18:27 is noticeably different than the version on VINCE GUARALDI AND THE LOST CUES, VOL. 2.
The version on the Lost Cues CD is likely just a different unused take.
I have the box set with both CDs, sadly out of print now.
This is incredible!!! Thank you for sharing this! How would one go about getting a copy of this, or is that even a possibility?
The simplest way is a direct download.
How did they get the warped record effect?!

Was “there’s been a change” previously seen in You’re Not Elected, Charlie Brown?
Apparently not. According to Derrick Bang, these are the tracks:
You're Not Elected, Charlie Brown (10/29/72)
01. Incumbent Waltz
02. You're Not Elected, Charlie Brown [vocal]
03. Oh, Good Grief
04. Fast Piano Jazz
05. Blue Charlie Brown
06. Incumbent Waltz
07. Trombone [Teacher talks]
08. Linus and Lucy
09. Poor Charlie Brown
10. Joe Cool [vocal]
11. Incumbent Waltz
12. Dilemma
13. Woodstock's Wake-Up
14. Joe Cool
15. Oh, Good Grief
16. Deserted Charlie Brown
17. You're Not Elected, Charlie Brown
18. Linus and Lucy
19. You're Not Elected, Charlie Brown
I hope to hear Fast Piano Jazz without sound effects at some point. It’s my favorite cue from You’re Not Elected Charlie Brown.
