- Una particular formación en el Show del Festival Internacional de la Canción de Viña del Mar 2008 tuvo la banda de rock norteamericana JOURNEY con el vocalista Arnel Pineda.
Efectivamente, el cantante filipino fue incorporado a la banda JOURNEY, siendo su primera presentación oficial con JOURNEY el 21 de febrero del 2008 en el Festival Internacional de la Canción de Viña del Mar en Chile con una transmisión televisiva en conjunto para 80 países y en vivo por señales locales, de cable y el afamado canal A&E. El filipino Arnel Pineda derrochó energía y logró cautivar a todo el público con su voz muy parecida a la de Steve Perry y su gran presencia escénica, rejuveneciendo a la banda y dejando en segundo plano su carácter de absoluto novato. That night I was a part of the oberture show so I got to saw them in the first row. I was at the soundcheck and before my apperance on stage (which is brutally huge!) I saw all the Neal's Les Paul ready to rock (10 or 12 maybe). That day is going with me to my grave, words can't describe that experience.
Casually it happened today that my nephew (18 yo) wants to play this song for his bands school competition at the end of ths month, so now I'm working on the song to make him do it great and told him that he can use all my guitars, amps and FXs, whatever he wants. It's the same I was doing 30 years ago at school.
Un gran recuerdo haber estado en ese concierto y escuchar a Arnel con un timbre de voz muy parecido a Steve Perry grande Journey .

This was Arnels' first freak-out concert! A baptism of fire! He wanted to fly back to his country, but the die was cast! He said, it was an out of body experience and went on auto-pilot mode! A little rough on the edges, but not bad for his first mega-concert.
Found this band Journey, the lead singer is gorgeous. Didn't know he took on the former lead singer. His voice is awesome.

This must have been the first song, Arnel was freaking out at the audience size and fear of not being liked. Arnel and Journey men did so well!
This was the opening song. By the 4th song his confidence kicked in and he totally owned the audience.

Cuando el festival era bueno
Mm.. Soy fanático de Journey y tenia 15 años cuando estuve en aquella presentación en viña.. Y obvio Arnel es muy bueno.. Pero no se compara con Steve.. Su voz en vivo suena muy forzada en algunas canciones.. Pero de que es bueno, es muy bueno.. Ah.. Y por siaka.. El vocalista original tampoco es Steve.. Fue Robert Fleischman.. Sin embargo Steve fue y será x siempre la voz icónica y poderosa de JOURNEY.. ❤️
Cada uno en su tiempo y el q esta presente es Arnel, no tiene nada q envidiar a stip Perry x algo sigue en Journey, la gente lo quiere y lo acepto como voclusta del grupo desde el primer concierto q fue este, detractores siempre abran x diferentes motivos, el mundo es así. Yio también soy de los 80 y fan de journey y cuando veo a Arnel lo disfruto mucho, tremenda voz, finalmente creo q es cuestión de gustos 🤗😘
hay un documental donde un productor de Journey terminando el show, reta brígido a Pineda por moverse mucho, gritar y no dosificar la voz...y varias cosas más, onda como q el no era el show....pero es lógico q estuvise así en su debut....en viñaaaa....
Lo importante es q la musica extraordinaria de Journey persista y la podamos disfrutar

Agree. I am also thankful that those core pieces haven't given up their passion. Because let's face it, if it wasn't for Neal and the rest of the band agreeing to move on and have another shot at it, there won't be no Arnel fronting them no matter how great and close his voice is to Steve Perry. And Journey will just fade away..

The 2018 tour of Journey with Arnel Pineda in North America has already done last October 7 2018 and it was really successfull they sell over one million ticket.

Ram Hdz cuando CHV suelte el festival de viña y lo hagan otra vez, entre canal 13 y tvn, volvera a tener esta calidad, fueron los mejores tiempos del festival junto.con los años que lo tuvo MEGA. el canal CHV, a traido pura mierda !!!! ha traido a un.par de artistas buenos en todos los años que ha tenido el festival

But Perry didnt or can't. His last concert with the band was 1985, that's over 3 decades ago! He can't sing these songs anymore.

Excelente y poderosa banda! Sobre todo en el medio del espectáculo, hay una realidad a la que se enfrentan los grupos, bandas y artistas, imposible de sortear, ya que es inherente a la naturaleza: la trascendencia en el tiempo de los integrantes de las bandas, músicos y cantantes, pero sobre todo los vocalistas, que como todos nosotros, se enfrentan al paso del tiempo y por ende el envejecimiento. Y he allí donde los fanáticos de los artistas muchas veces tienen sentimientos encontrados, entre la imagen del artista original que quedó en sus mentes y el que lo sustituye por cualquier razón, porque envejece, o se retiró hace años e hizo una carrera independiente, o ya la voz no dió más por razones naturales, y ese es el reto de quien sustituye al anterior: dar la mejor impresión para que la transición sea satisfactoria y digerible para el público. Sustituir a Steve Perry, por parte de Arnel, es un trabajo difícil, y lo hizo bien, con parecido timbre y altura de voz, inclusive la apariencia, al menos en el tipo, el cabello largo, es lógico que así sea y busquen hacerlo. Felicitaciones a todos los integrantes, mantienen el poderoso sonido excelente y perfecto de los 80.
