    one spline is sufficient for the outline of both interior and exterior walls.
    After drawing the spline for the outline, use the extrude modifier to raise 2D walls and set segments to 3.
    Enter the desired height for the walls e.g 300cm. That way you have 2D walls with segments for doors and windows.
    Delete the polygons representing doors and windows to punch out holes for doors and windows.
    (You can use the delete poly modifier or editable poly modifier for this)
    By doing this, you have flat walls with openings for doors and windows.
    Use the shell modified to give thickness to these flat walls you've created. Enter the desired thickness. e.g. 22cm
    You end up with solid walls, both interior and exterior.

    First of all I'd like to say that your tutorials have been a great help for me for the last couple of months. They helped me develop so much when i was nothing but a beginner in 3ds MAX. I have one question that's been bothering me for months now, when I drag the editable poly (like you did at 8:52) sometimes it doesn't drag lines from each vertex and sometimes it does. I can't for the life of me figure out how it's happening, I'd be so grateful if you can provide an answer for my question

    Thanks a lot man , i used 3d max a lot of time before since i studed industrial design and 3d animation but as you know the arch. modeling is some different , and for me wasnt hard , because i know the program since like 8 or more years before , and i study 3 years architecture , so i know the plane representations , which for me can be the hardest thing for any person who know 3d max and vray , but if it doesnt understand the planes , cant do anithing . Thanks again because even i have post and pregrade ,in this city arent work for designers , so i was like dying of hunger , jajajjaa,(sorry for my english).

    I dont understand why you have to redraw the lines. Cant you just use the line that are already created in the CAD file. Just extrude from them.

    • @4dvisual
      @4dvisual  9 лет назад +10

      2 reasons:
      1. The line imported from autocad are not closed splines and so you can't extrude them without closing the splines first.
      2. In my technique I create exterior walls separate and interior separate , and the dwg lines are not separate

    • @MuathGhrouz
      @MuathGhrouz 9 лет назад +6

      MrBfg586 If you're 100% sure that the lines are perfectly done you can just isolate the layer and extrude..
      otherwise drawing the lines saves the time you'll spend fixing the model in case something looked wrong.

    following you from the first interior tutorial. nice ones you have, but still I don't get it, for instance, when you are measuring window height why don't use snap tool (as we have it already) instead you use free hand (it's okay, it is a demonstration only so we don't need to be so accurate, but still...), and on the other hand, would it not be easier if you rotated part of the dwg, aligned it and then if you go to the front or left viewport you have complete drawing where you don't need to measure window height with boxes and all other unnecesarry stuff.

    Hi.
    I have a question that you might explain in future movies but I thought of it while watching this tutorial so. :)
    I have made some houses in 3Ds Max myself and have just been importing a top view of a house and extruded directly from autocad's lines for the walls and then only added the doors and windows by the same technique.
    If there's more floors I just do the same again and import over the first, and so on.
    My question is basically if your technique is better than what I do, in that chase why?
