Thank you SO much for doing this! It's terrifying developing an indie game for years upon years. And It's thanks to people like you that we get fantastic indie games that would have been drowned out otherwise. Every time an indie game succeeds it gives us motivation ourselves :) Best of luck to all the games mentioned, and I hope you'll get to try out our game GRIME when it comes out a month from now! The Black hole absorb mechanic was influenced somewhat by Raziel's soul sucking from Legacy of Kain so I trust you may appreciate that resemblance hehe
Compared to some other games on that list Grime is relatively high profile in the sense it got coverage on multiple prominent websites and the footage looks impressive. I hope it will be successful! Only consideration I have is that I prefer playing those kind of games on console. So waiting out on the Steam launch in hope of a console release is a bit of a dilemma since it might prevent the success needed for a console port later on.
Hot dam, thanks for featuring us on the list! There's a lot of cool beaver-of-the-future stuff coming for early access, we hope you're gonna like it. :)
Respect for covering this stuff, some of my personal recommendations to keep an eye on/wishlist are Heavenly Bodies, Hazel Sky, Moncage, Chasing Static, Tchia and Trek to Yomi!

I'm an Indie (capital 'I') Dev and have released a game with basically zero marketing. Steam gets me roughly 100 people clicking on my store page each day. I feel like that's a good deal. Steam reviewers and customers I think give you a fair shake and if people play and enjoy the game, it will be shown to more people. Really happy with that service to be honest.
SkillUp this was fucking wonderful. Having a guided tour of new and upcoming interesting indie titles brings back fond memories of TB's efforts to highlight things worthy of being highlighted in this area, and now I'm feeling way more emotional than I thought I would today. Hope this sort of showcase becomes a regular feature, or even just a couple times per year. Thank you!

It's really sad when there's a showcase in E3 that actually features some indie game trailers, and then 90% of reactions are just "Boo bad graphics" and "boring skip pls", I wish people actually gave indie games a try and appreciated the amount of work and passion that went into them, instead of buying into the hype for the next soulless Ubisoft open world game or the next military shooter...
Eh, while I agree, I disagree that Ubisoft-games are necessarily soulless. Well, I'm coming from the latest "AC"-angle. People don't give what they DID put into that enough credit either and people like you just listen to people like Ralph shit on it while not giving the details credit. - I'm not saying they are (or it/"Valhalla" is) the best game ever, not even close. I'm not even disagreeing that it's bloated and all that stuff. But there's more to it than that. - Anyway, again; I agree that people should stop looking at the AAA-stuff and measure games by how good they LOOK or what kind of technology they use (although, even the indie-stuff could be using some impressive techniques, as they're inventive). - But we can't avoid this anymore, because the general audience, which has become a newer generation, grew into this stuff and has been brainwashed to prioritize superficial stuff over substantial stuff. - It's really easy to also ride the "EA/Ubisoft hate train", but I really resent people who don't give credit where credit's due, no matter indie or AAA status. I've seen indie-studios turn on their customers or even their own employees too, for that matter, as I've spent my fair share of time with those games and their communities. - Nothing is safe or sacred, probably because money gets involved. You can kiss "passion" goodbye at that point. - I suppose videogames should be looked at on a case-by-case basis, like any product.
@@michaelmonstar4276 You make some good points, I've enjoyed Ubisoft games in the past but the last few years they seem to try to stuff their games as much as possible with filler content, AC games used to be 20-25 hour games with some decent side content and collectibles, but nowadays with Odyssey and Valhalla they turned into 100+ hour long bloaty fetch quest filled games, I had hoped with Valhalla they'd scale down the map and make a smaller more focused experience that's shorter but better crafted, but unfortunately they delivered another Odyssey. You are fighting the good fight here, when I will be in a better position I will start supporting your Patreon if you have one or whatever. Amazing, amazing work here my man, using your "influencer" status to help smaller developers. Seriously, you brought a smile to my face!
As someone who loves indie games among my bigger titles. Thank you for doing this! I love seeing new interesting experiences and knowing that others are getting the same exposure makes me even more happy.
John Cena's favourite country, Taiwan.
Good stuff.
When in fact it's not a country. Just saying. lol
@@seafood_hater Except, it is a country by definition. They have their own government, currency, laws, rulers, political and economical systems etc.
Just because Winnie the Pooh says it isn't doesn't mean it's true.
@@Cheufade No you are wrong Taiwan doesn't exist. Winnie- I mean lord Xi Jimping straight up said that this made up region, is from a children's book, which the enemy uses as a way to dethrone him from his iro- I mean presidency. I LOVE CHINA COMPLETELY AND MY FREE WILL!
@@Cheufade Hawaii is a country
I appreciate you doing this. There isn't enough coverage on developers who often bring something new or bring a twist to what we have gotten used to. Granted there are so many of them out there which makes it difficult to shine light on all of them or at least those that should be recognized. Death Trash, Greak and Sable were already on my must have. Others like Death's Door, Wizard with a Gun, Dead Static Drive AND Little Devils Inside ( I know they have sony to back em, but good for them damn it cuz it looks GREAT ) are also on my list... It's gonna be a GREAT YEAR. Cheers.
You honestly have no idea how many games I've found and enjoyed because of your videos!
Great video, love the love you're showing indie developers, they need and very much deserve the attention!
Ralph is turning to the light side! Keep doing this!
So much passion is put into these projects I want to throw money at all of them.
That John cena burn made my day.
I wish every video on youtube was wrapped with the immense care you put into yours, you can't expect from someone to care about your content, no matter what it is for, if you don't put passion into the effort you make it with, thank you!
Unmetal looks like my kind of game. Added on wishlist!!
Thank you for this video. You made all of us indie devs very happy.
Would love to see more content like this
samr
Nice of you to do this!! I haven’t heard of most of these titles. I *just* heard of Risk of Rain from one of your past videos and purchased both of them a month ago!
The 3D UI in Chernobyl Liquidator Simulator looks amazing! I wish more games would do something like this. It’s a cross between Metro’s bracer and a 2D design. It’s gorgeous. Not gonna lie, I’m probably going to buy and play everything here.
Thanks again!
One day, my game will be featured in here! But man these games are sooo awesome
Damn. That White Shadows game makes Limbo and Inside look cheery and optimistic.
A lot of the games featured here look really cool and fun. Good on Steam for showcasing them, and SkillUp for taking the time to feature many of them as well.
Liked and shared! Thank you! This was so great.
Great video ; great service to indie devs. Kudos.
Take a look at Tainted Grail, it's awesome ;)
Love just listening to Skillup talk about video games, so a video where he talks about 20 of them is a real treat.
Awesome! So much variety! I'm so tired of AAA monotony
Doing the lord's work man, great showcase. Thanks for fighting the good fight.
My personal recommendations are Gestalt: Steam and Cinder, and Grime.
Won my subscription on this one, thank you for giving love to the Indies
If it weren't for you, I'd never have heard of Sable. And it looks fucking sweeeet
The rare case of a RUclipsr that keeps on improving! Keep up the good work, Skill Up!
Shill Up using his powers for good, love to see it
@Fart Blackson well... I mean, he's clearly shilling indie games here isn't he?
@Fart Blackson you know what, you have a point.
If you ever read this Ralph, I guess you'd better never refer to yourself as Shillup again smh
TB would be proud you've picked up this torch Ralph, keep going brother.
Thankyou for covering indie games. Can you also make a list for Indie games that are already released
Skillup you, Yong and very few others are doing the gaming industry a huge honor. Gaming’s freaking heroes right now. This was marvelous I hope u continue bringing us these indie showcases in the future and man I wish they had these indie demo events on Switch as well.
Shady Knight strongly reminds me of Dark Messiah of Might & Magic, but with an updated movement scheme. Seems neat!
Sadly everything else is subpar, no real singleplayer, super simplistic graphics, it's just a couple of meaningless challenges put together.
@@z4v3k Ah, oof. I was hoping it'd be more than just a gameplay reel.
@@rioplats You can try out the demo though on Steam and see it for yourself.
Really glad you made the time to make one of these. Doesn’t seem like enough people go out of there way to highlight indies and it’s such a big part of the industry now.
Indie games have been getting better each an every year.
2015: Ori and The Blind Forest, Rocket Leauge, Undertale
2016: Firewatch, Inside, Stardew Valley, ABZU
2017: Hellblade, Cuphead, Pyre, What remains of Edith Finch, Hollow Knight
2018: Celeste, Dead Cells, Gris, Into the Breach
2019: Disco Elysium, Outer Wilds, Sayonara Wild hearts, a plague tale innocence
2020: Fall guys, Hades, The pathless, If Found, Ori and the will of the wisps
The pathless is the first indie game I 100% Completed, Truly something special
Don't forget Hyper Light Drifter in 2016!
Great list! Also check out ABZÛ! It's 2016 and by The Pathless developers Giant Squid. It's basically Journey but underwater. So gorgeous, but kinda underrated!
I saw the TB homage via the quote from his steam curator page in your recent video. I think dedicating this much time to covering indies definitely helps carry on his legacy, so thank you for that.
I like this video shining a spotlight on indie games. It feels likes something TotalBiscuit would have done.
This is the kind of quality content I like to see. Thank you!
I added eight of those to my wishlist! Looks like good stuff!
Thank you for doing this.
This video was really helpful! Personally I missed the show so being able to catch up on such a wide variety of indie goodness was brilliant, thank you.
I didn't know any one of these game and at the end of the video, I found a few that really peaked my interest and will definitely be checking them out more. Thank you
An indie games showcase like this at regular intervals would be awesome! Very nice work.
Also. This video is why I LOVE your channel. Thank you for making this!
