- Building Raised Bed using Retaining Wall Blocks
Raised Garden Bed can be made using different material where wood is most common one. Others could be Cinder Block, Bricks, PVC and many more. Retaining Wall Blocks are primarily used for retaining wall however use of it in Raised Vegetable Garden Bed or Flower Bed is also widespread.
Appearance is better compare to Wooden Raised Bed and they are long lasting. Although It is bit more time and labor compare to wooden raised bed.

nice work, but always stager the joints. the corner has nothing to hold it in place and if you go thru freeze and thaw it will end up being pushed out.
I agree. Even if he used strong mesh glued between the layers it might help support the corner better.
Thanks for making this video a lot of the other videos that I've watched they make it seem so complicated the only question I have is if you wanted to make an inside 90 degree how would you do that
Thank you! inside 90 degree wont be easy, you could join two block on their shorter length on 90 degree and fill the triangular part by cutting the block. However cutting triangular piece won't be easy. or you could use planter block on corner and start the retaining wall from there.

do you need glue for every layer?
It depends. I used Glue for every layer as Kids love to walk on it and I wanted stability. Also my raised bed is more than 3 ft wide so sometime we stand on it to reach out plants on the back.
In a frosty environment, it is good to put a wall of pea gravel directly behind the wall as this aids drainage, standing water that freezes will break the blocks eventually without good drainage, the base material in the video helps with this too. You can plant Alpine plants at the front in this gravel, as they like poor gravelly soils and will cascade over the wall in time.
you dont use pea gravel as back fill, It doesn't allow great drainage like a 3/4 " clean stone.

for 10 ft length - 1. take the grass out, dig 6-8 inches and make it flat ~ 2 hrs, 2- put gravel, sand and tamp, make it flat again ~ 1 hour, 3- put pavers (1 layer) and glue them ~ 1-2 hrs
So total of around 10 hrs for 3 layers plus or minus 1 -2 hours - now calculate based on hourly rate.
So a year later how has that base held up and how has the adhesive held up
both are holding up pretty good. I did not observe any cracks or unevenness.
Can you not keep them back to front alternately and remove the v gaps?
Some of these brick dont have the same finish on the inner piece

i started at the corner. i found easier that way however either is fine
Second layer block should not right on the top of first one, must overlap on the two
Can you just put the paver stones and no sand?
sand is to even the surface, make it as flat as possible.
Does the soil and water not leak through the vertical joins?
Very little in beginning and then it will slow down as soil gets compacted and fill the gaps. I am assuming leak is more if it is more than 3 layers. Mine is almost 6 months old and I don't see any leaks with amount of water I give. On other hand I think its good as we don't need any special treatment for drainage
You want water to flow through the cracks. Drainage in these very important especially in colder climates where water can pool and freeze and destroy your work.

@renberry7046 the blocks weren't used properly. They are supposed to be laid down in alternate directions. That makes the blocks lock together and look better. It is a waste of money if care isn't taken to do it properly. Looks lazy.
@renberry7046 if its just a vegetable bed then use something cheaper and easier to work with...like wood ties
