DaveBuilds thats just not true, dustless just adds water to the mix of sand making a big mess, this guy went crazy with pressure and didnt hit the parts at the right angle and didnt know what he was doing obviously, is the parts where all rusty or bondoed and bad a good blaster would know from the slightest change to stop if something goes wrong, dustless can cool the metal a bit but it looks like this operator went straight at it and had the wrong ratio going on
Operator error!!!! You can see the lines where the operator was working too close. And you can see the dig outside. The crushed glass would not do this. The heavy duty grit will do that... sorry for your loss.
Dude!!! I am sooooo sorry!! Oooooh fuck! A lot of heat and pressure coming out of those things. You seem like a cool guy. Glad you posted this to give us a heads-up.
Man, that is horrible. I’ve been All Needs Mobile Dustless Blasting for six years full time and I have people who drive 175 miles each way to bring items to me. Some drive past others who have the same machine to come to me. I practiced a lot in junk yards intentionally warming panels so I could better understand how to not warp panels. I’ve never even seen a panel warped as bad as yours. Trust is even when I was damaging stuff intentionally I never damaged anything that bad. You have to know how to adjust feed rates and pressure levels, even still I’m constantly changing the distance I am from panels when blasting. I hate it happened to you. The media used was way too course and the pressure was way too high. Some people don’t understand the art of blasting.
Sounds like the operator didn’t know what he was doing. Should change the title of the video. This is not fair to the guys out there that actually know how to run their equipment!
The steel used for large stampings like fenders and roofs is rerolled in a "Tandem Mill." This is a very tiny amount of cold rolling at very high pressures. What results is steel with a very tiny "Skin" on the surface. This gives the steel a little more strength for stamping. These mills came about in 1933 - thus the big curved panels on the cars and one piece roofs. This blasting problem is less from heat than metal removal. Even a tiny amount can cause warpage. So first of all NEVER blast directly (90 degrees) to the surface. This makes for max metal removal. So blast at a slight angle to the side. The next thing is to use the lowest pressure and least amount of grit. If it takes longer, then you are being more safe. It doesn't matter near as much about the temperature. You car doesn't warp in 100 Plus degree heat. I'm sure I'll get feed back about this, but if you're blasting at high enough pressure and high enough media to warp the surface, then you don't now what you're doing. Most blasting companies are not accustomed to blasting thin sheet metal. You know, any blasting, can blast a hole right through the metal. Even think metal.
You need to go after that company. That is not what dustless blasting should turn out like even with some aggressive media. Did he fucking stand on everything to hold it down? Im mad for you Dave!
Heat has nothing to do with warping. Its the media peening the metal thereby elongating the steel. If they say that it wont warp panels because of the cooling effect of the water, then its just false advertising.
An old trick I use when I'm over my daily withdraw limit is I go to Walmart and say I need $1000 more then I have I grab 10 items and go to the self checkout and scan an item, get $100 cash back and just repeat this process over and over, I've done this a few times when buying vehicles after being over my daily limit
Well shit Dave, this sucks. There's nothing worse than coming out of something worse off than when you went in. I feel for you, I had a guy work on my 1950 Ford pickup bed and he just ended up hacking apart the good stuff and essentially ruining it. I hope someone that sees this can help you source the parts you need to replace reasonably quick.
Would Dustless Blasting be an option to do the underside of the car? Got a car with alot of rustproofing and rusted floorboards anyway. Thought that may be an approach to get a better idea of what I'm dealing with overall.
Next time find a company that uses soda blasting or dry ice blasting , just be warned that alliuminun will warp if not using water and low pressure with soda.
glad to see you got a bell housing. being from Aus as well i spun out when you said you just couldn't find an auto bell housing anywhere in the states but makes sense for now at least i suppose. I meant to get onto you when you first said you were having trouble cause I've still got the old auto out of my r32 sitting in my shed but i got sidetracked and clean forgot all about it
The thickness of the Metal in these foreign cars is about like a aluminum can it’s hard to know who’s right who’s wrong when you’re only here and one side
What alot of people don't relize or falsely think is that heat warps the panels from blasting....untrue...it's actually the shot peening effect from the media .... hence the reasone even wet blasting can warp panels
Man that really blows. Of course I assume there's no warranty on their end or you would have mentioned it. Depending on how much it's going to cost, it might be worth trying to take them to small claims court.

I'd add Home Built By Jeff; but he's already thrown his ruined hood away. As for Team Boosted ... that's in a perpetual state of half-ruined. Thank God for Francisco Gutierrez.
I just don't understand how water and media warped this .. not saying it didn't I just don't understand ....was the metal outside in really hot temperature when he blasted
Hey Buddy i been blasting for 22 years and looks to me from what i see in the video the blaster did not have any experience, he was supposed to use a 40/70 glass at 60 psi ... Next time you should sit there with a pair of safety glasses and muffs , if you were in New England i would help you out
Damn.... good call on the bucket of water, it displayed the dents very well. Sorry man.. That sucks, looks like the guy didn't learn how to do it correctly.
The metal is cooled by the water the math doesn't seem to work here. Paint can hide a lot of things including but not limited to warping I can understand higher pressure but even that would have left dents or creases. Something not right about this deal. Maybe you should have given a better explanation on your thoughts as to what happened with the job instead of just saying it's destroyed its destroyed
That sucks seen it a few times with the rookie blasters. I do dry and dustless never go over 60psi on the mazdas datsun. Never blast new cars. These guys are all over tearing stuff up.
I can not believe how fucked up that one hood is!!! It’s totally destroyed!!!! I hope that guy feels bad!! He needs training!! It looks like he laid it flat on the ground and hit it straight on!! Crazy!! Totally should reimburse you for those panels!!

Aww man that really really sucks. I'd be furious, did the guy just hold the blasting hose right against it to strip the paint? how does that even happen?
Omg dude wtf!! That is a huge loss!! O I hope u didn't pay them a dime! They should be the ones replacing your panels. If this happened at any body shop the shop would be the ones replacing them not the owner. I hope you can locate those parts man. Still excited to see the projects get finished!
Professional blaster and business owner here. It's not the the equiptment, you hired somebody that used the incorrect media, pressure and by the looks of it had no clue what They were doing. I own 4 wet blasting machines.. top end clemco equiptment and even the cheap dustless blasting stuff is the right tool for this job. Just a victim of a guy with no experience.
Looks like the guy got too close with the blaster and the panels should be bolted to the vehicle to to prevent warping from the high pressure. It’s like spraying a vehicle up close with a fire hose it’s going to warp the shit out of thin gauge sheet metal. The only thing I would recommend it for is heavier gauge steel and commercial equipment.
It's obviously the guy that did the work that's the problem. When I saw him in the background of the one shot, he was pointing the hose directly at the part. It clearly says in the training videos to blast at a good angle. It's not Dustless Blasting that's at fault. It's the untrained person running the machine.
I know on my 240Z it was really hard to find a bunch of body panels that were straight. I've been holding onto as many as I can in storage. So did the guy not know what he was doing that was blasting them? Or is that just a byproduct of doing that to them?
Junkyard Dave... I wish I could help you with the panels but I'm not in denver anymore. I'm in the new england area. Not sure if you remember but you and Motion Auto saw my 71 240z (the ugly one at Pikes Peak Raceway). If you can't find anything in the near future say something in one of your videos and I can help... I know people in New mexico with parts.
good place to spot stuff for s30 is datsun parts and needs on facebook. You know I'm really glad that they didn't mess up the shell on the 240 or the 3000... imagine how bad it could have been if he did everything before you caught it that's a scary thought.
Damn bro! Sorry to see they ruined your panels man! Keep your head up! Good things to come! All about that karma man! When bad happens the good will come 10x over!
fellow Aussie coming up with the bell housing, cheers mate. who knows how that 'tool' didn't notive the warping after the 1st panel. clown! great news about getting the laser cutting organised too Dave. •̀.̫•́✧
knowing a good bit about dustless blasting I have to ask was their body filler making it appear straight because the blasting will take off the body filler. if that was not the case then the operator did not know what he was doing and used too much pressure and probably use the wrong blasting media as well. I'm sorry this happened to you if it is the operators fault
Can you show us the video using the Dustless Blasting machine on the cars stripped. I think you used the wrong pressure or pointed straight and to much near, because it happened to me on time, doing some tests and that was why. If you see the Dustless Blasting videos they teach that.
Chris Potts the Dustless Blasting company that manufactures and sells the machines train each person who buys their products. It is totally the responsibility of the owner /operator to use the correct combination of pressure, media size, media type and correct blassing angles to do the job properly. This problem is due to what can only be described as an idiot operator and HE needs to be held accountable.
Geez, you can tell from the patterning on the hood/fenders that dunce had no clue what he was doing. I feel for you and I'll call a few places locally that might have some panels.... If I'm able to find something and get a price on then I'll contact you through instagram..
First of all the guy was right up on it shooting directly at the piece. He should have been farther away and spraying at an angle. Next he should have been in a covered area shielded from the sun.
i have used this on multipulte jobs cars and homes and i can guarantee it was not the dustless blasting it was all user error he either used to high psi on a downward angle for to long or used the wrong media with out enough water i would sue the shit out the person who did that
What? How the hell did he warp the hood and fenders? Was he that close with the nozzle? It doesn't take much effort to blast such parts. Even then you start off light, angle the nozzle and start at a good distance away and move in till you find the "sweet spot". Was this guy a new business?
Dude, this guy screwed up bad. It’s not the equipment(dustless blasting) it was the operator. I’ve been blasting for four years now. I can tell you he used to high a pressure, he was to close, and blasted at a 90 degree angle. He also stayed in one spot to long. From a pretty experienced blaster, I apologize for this dude.
That guy had no clue as to what he was doing. He might have been a new employee at the company that wasn’t trained properly or he’s the owner and just an idiot. Either way the expenses should come out of that blasters pocket! Really sad to see how the errors of an operator can affect the reputation and reliability of a great machine that has and will work for thousands of people!
I deal with more 240Z then anybody you will meet. i own 5 Z's i have a problem with datsuns. i own a couple of parts cars as well. i sent you a message About those clear front turn signals the JDM ones a while back. i would be willing to trade parts if you want. i dont have JDM fenders only US ones let me know if you want to work out a trade i might have a hood and doors as well let me know. best of luck dave!! only . downfall i live in cali
Lol, to be honest, the nightmare is probably the dustless blaster revealing *how much bondo was there before* It’s not warped from the dustless blasting, you were use to the amount of body filler in the first place. It’s not hard to get that hood back to original, mayb you. Should try paintlesss dent repair, but anyone blasting any classic car, should already be prepared for see the real damage and rust under years of different paints and primers. Also, in my years of experience, 5 out of 10, don’t know the actual definition of clean Straight body work.(when you can see picture perfect reflection from The car) *im talking body and paint so good, that it’s not wavy when the sun hits it. With a mirror image reflection*
YoungTimmy well since the 240z hood has no bracing on the back side of the hood I would have seen that amount of warping before hand same goes with the other parts. It was 100% dustless blastings fault, there is no cost effective way to repair that kind of warping. I am guessing you have no clue what you're talking about much less body work.

Not sure if you remember but you and Motion Auto saw my 71 240z (the ugly one at Pikes Peak Raceway). If you can't find anything in the near future say something in one of your videos and I can help... I know people in New mexico with parts.
all the boost I remember and thanks I just might buy another shell for parts it's just unfortunate though
good place to spot stuff for s30 is datsun parts and needs on facebook. You know I'm really glad that they didn't mess up the shell on the 240 or the 3000... imagine how bad it could have been if he did everything before you caught it that's a scary thought.
Dude!!!! He was hitting that thing straight on and soo close!! WTF!!!!!🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬You need to get reimbursed!!!!!
what media did he use?
Simon D think glass
Damn bro! Sorry to see they ruined your panels man! Keep your head up! Good things to come! All about that karma man! When bad happens the good will come 10x over!
So company who did blasting will pay you or not? If this happened to my i would cut guys balz and do dust less blasting on them.🤬
fellow Aussie coming up with the bell housing, cheers mate. who knows how that 'tool' didn't notive the warping after the 1st panel. clown! great news about getting the laser cutting organised too Dave. •̀.̫•́✧
knowing a good bit about dustless blasting I have to ask was their body filler making it appear straight because the blasting will take off the body filler. if that was not the case then the operator did not know what he was doing and used too much pressure and probably use the wrong blasting media as well. I'm sorry this happened to you if it is the operators fault
Dominic White no filler most likely the operator
Can you show us the video using the Dustless Blasting machine on the cars stripped. I think you used the wrong pressure or pointed straight and to much near, because it happened to me on time, doing some tests and that was why. If you see the Dustless Blasting videos they teach that.
That defiantly sucks. I would contact the company and see if they can do anything for you as they advertised it wouldn't warp panels.
That sucks! I would sue or due a insurance claim on that.
Geez, you can tell from the patterning on the hood/fenders that dunce had no clue what he was doing. I feel for you and I'll call a few places locally that might have some panels.... If I'm able to find something and get a price on then I'll contact you through instagram..
Yuuyia Takahashi thanks
I dunno man Either the parts were trash ? wet blasting doesn't do that I've never had this happen
First of all the guy was right up on it shooting directly at the piece. He should have been farther away and spraying at an angle. Next he should have been in a covered area shielded from the sun.
yeah, i think that guy was sandblasting, not dustless blasting. Either that, or he used the wrong kind of media for the job
Should have asked around first that happens all the time thin sheet metal is not for blasting
i have used this on multipulte jobs cars and homes and i can guarantee it was not the dustless blasting it was all user error he either used to high psi on a downward angle for to long or used the wrong media with out enough water i would sue the shit out the person who did that
Sorry Dave! That was my first time using that blaster 😣
HAHAHAHA
Sorry to see that man..
What? How the hell did he warp the hood and fenders? Was he that close with the nozzle? It doesn't take much effort to blast such parts. Even then you start off light, angle the nozzle and start at a good distance away and move in till you find the "sweet spot". Was this guy a new business?
Oh wow!
Warping can be a byproduct of sandblasting and there are certain techniques involved to prevent it, to which your guy did not use!
Blast pressure was too high, impact angle was too steep and possibly too harsh a blast media.
Sounds like too much PSI and not taking it off at an angle.
Well that sucks. At least you got the bell housing. Win some lose some.
Wow. Was it an llc, or just a random person claiming to know what he was doing? No way would i let this fly.
feel you mn. But maybe an metal work vlog, Get those ballpeens out.
piskopow even if I shrank the metal there would be way more filler than I ever wanted to have
Would like to try dustless sand blasting machine? Check more details on: www.dustlessblastings.com/
sucks big time!
Wow what a bummer I'm sorry Dave I'm going to be looking in my area for what you need
Joseph Abbott thanks
Ouch, that sucks. Sorry to hear Dave. Hope you u shot that guy. lol
Go check out the crazy Z bild on the Street bandito youtube page it's awesome .
Also what in the actual fuck at those panels :0
I hope the guy that did that shit is buried behind the fuckin shop now!
dude that sucks
I deal with more 240Z then anybody you will meet. i own 5 Z's i have a problem with datsuns. i own a couple of parts cars as well. i sent you a message About those clear front turn signals the JDM ones a while back. i would be willing to trade parts if you want. i dont have JDM fenders only US ones let me know if you want to work out a trade i might have a hood and doors as well let me know. best of luck dave!! only . downfall i live in cali
I'm about to be in cali next week

Holy shit man, I hope you didn't pay for that work!
Akieba since I'm out the parts I played one way or another which sucks
well yeah, that does suck, but i still hope the guy who messed it up didnt get your money, considering the claims made by them
79 or almost 80 🤔😂
Lol, to be honest, the nightmare is probably the dustless blaster revealing *how much bondo was there before*
It’s not warped from the dustless blasting, you were use to the amount of body filler in the first place.
It’s not hard to get that hood back to original, mayb you. Should try paintlesss dent repair, but anyone blasting any classic car, should already be prepared for see the real damage and rust under years of different paints and primers.
Also, in my years of experience, 5 out of 10, don’t know the actual definition of clean Straight body work.(when you can see picture perfect reflection from The car)
*im talking body and paint so good, that it’s not wavy when the sun hits it. With a mirror image reflection*
YoungTimmy well since the 240z hood has no bracing on the back side of the hood I would have seen that amount of warping before hand same goes with the other parts. It was 100% dustless blastings fault, there is no cost effective way to repair that kind of warping. I am guessing you have no clue what you're talking about much less body work.
fuck, was it his first time blasting?
way to close or way to much pressure or both i would go after that business thats BS
SODA for bodies
40/70 glass i believe 60 psi that should not have happened
