My main problem is how everyone can recognize a Night Fury when no one's ever seen one before.

Square Root The thing is, sometimes the less moral choice is the right and better one. For example, in this particular movie, eliminating ONE evil guy could have preventing several evil deeds with irreversible effects from ever taking place. Cruel yes, but the world isn't a nice place. People can be morally righteous and smart, OR so moral that it borders along stupidity. Just like how assholes can be smart or stupid (sucks that a lot of them tend to be smart though...damn it...)

As soon as Hiccup started complaining about not wanting to succeed his dad at the start of the movie, I knew they were probably going to kill off Stoick in order to force Hiccup to grow up. It was even more obvious when his parents were talking about getting back together and acting all happy; I knew that was all just to make the impending death even more tragic. Frankly, I was pissed off at how cliched manipulative the whole thing was. If anybody had to die, I kind of wish it had been Hiccup; it's basically his fault his dad died anyway.

I still want to know how a one armed guy can intimidate a dragon the size of a small mountain into doing his bidding. Clearly he couldn't use other dragons against it since it has complete control over them. What the hell else did he have that could scare that thing?
It says in the Wiki that Drago was the one who hatched it and so the dragon always did Drago's bidding even though Drago tortured it and made it become like the ultimate killing machine.

***** It is not about the fact it is for kids. It is about the fact that the HISHE concept is based on understanding what is going to happen in the real world as opposed to what happens in the film. I don't think kids are capable of differentiating and if they are what is to stop them from watching this channel? The movies being shown? I think that there is nothing kids shouldn't watch/do if you talk to them about it. I feel like we think of them as lesser beings for the very same reason. Think about it. They have to have a separate channel because they are kids?

Question: How did Hiccup's mother drop nearly 5 cup sizes between the time that she left and the events of HtTYD 2? In the first film, we see that her breast protectors are more than large enough to fit on Stoick's head, but 17 years later she is little more than a stick. What is this sorcery?

Welllll... uh... perhaps she lost all of that milk when she was taken away (breasts swell with milk during and for a while after pregnancy, and they tend to shrink afterwards--Hiccup in the flashback didn't look like he was old enough to be weaned from breast milk), and from when her diet changed.
Well I think her breastplate covered more than just her breasts. If it was an entire vest that covered her entire torso like most breastplates it would make sense that it could be melted down into forming two helmets.

The first book was written in 2003. Cowell published Book 8 How To Break a Dragon’s Heart in 2010 the same year that DreamWorks Animation made the first movie.
(I didn’t see it at the time though because I was very into the books and could tell from the trailers that the film would be ignoring its source material). I saw the How To Train Your Dragon movies eventually and they’re definitely good movies. Though they really do ignore the books upon which they’re based (except the third one).

The problem was Hiccup picked a really really bad time to be diplomatic. When you want to settle things peacefully don't try to show how dragons are good when the villain is irreversibly power hungry and AFTER he has taken complete control of all the dragons.

i think his death was unnecessary i do not understand why this had to happen to him and surprisingly i was not that sad about his death and i really do not know why maybe i have not felt enough for this character though it is still very sad that he dies because he and his wife finally met again and shortly after that he dies ... i dont know but for me it felt not right for the film but i still have no problems with deaths of characters in general but for me then it has to make any sense why it happens and not just to make the viewers sad or cry

THing is, he originally wasn't going to die, but the director Dean DeBlois' father died when he was 19 and he claims that is what made him mature, so he made Httyd 2 parallel to those events.

A HISHE for kids? IDK this isn't really a channel that requires a kids branch but hey twice the channels twice the videos.
It might be warranted; in movie terms, this channel seems to bounce between PG and PG-13 but doesn't get into R-Rated territory. Then again some of the movies it covers do. A kids channel that is just G to PG could be good, especially if the core humor and quality remain intact.

Why didn't the mum get more crap in the movie? I mean she ditched her family for dragons, that's the worst parenting ever.
Because it wasn't her choice to get kidnapped by Cloudjumper, and she did commit her life to a noble cause in her absence as a mother. Hiccup understood that she stayed for the dragons.
I'm glad they didn't do the whole "I can't believe you left be as a baby, I was so lonely without a mother" thing that almost every fictional character with 1 or more missing parents does. I'm glad they skipped over the cliche of the child making the parent feel guilty even though nothing bad really came of it. Stoic seemed to provide everything that Hiccup needed, and whatever problems he had in the first movie wouldn't have been better just cuz his mother was around.

Ever since I watched that film the accent thing had been annoying me. They are meant to be Vikings, who were from Europe, places like Denmark and so on. However that adults have Scottish accents, which would be more relevant if they were Celt. But then the kids have American accents? Its a whole confusing mumble jumble of accents.
I know, Scots fought the Vikings for crying out loud.
Correction: in the time of the Viking invasion, there were no Scots as there was no Scotland, just the four kingdoms of Wessex, East Anglia, Mercia and Northumbria. The Vikings landed in Northumbria and East Anglia.

Vikings didn't just want war, they wanted *land*, and the good, fertile land was in Britian, so many of them didn't leave. Scots/Celts fought the Vikings, yeah, but then they lost quite a bit and wound up breeding with them, as has happened in war all throughout history. (It's how the Irish got red hair, which was not native to them before Viking incursions. And how any UK towns ending in "-by" got named, like Whitby.) Vikings made is as far south as Rome -- they certainly managed to hang out with the people of the British Isles. English was a Nordic language before the French invaded from the south in 1066. And the Danemark was a thing.
Anyway, the writer of the novels the movies are based on wrote the books based on her childhood experiences on a remote island that is now part of Scotland, but had some Viking history. One huge deviation from the books is that in the film, they Vikings are relatively new to the island of Berk, so they gave the adults a "younger" form of English than the kids, as happens when people emigrate. I saw the French version and they did much the same thing, which was kind of funny -- the adults has a Langue D'Oc accent while the kids all sounded modern and Parisian.(That plus they probably just really wanted to use Gerard Butler because he is all SPARTAN WARRIOR hot sounding and Jay Baruchel because he is geeky.)
