    Being from Québec i remember vividly the feud between the Garvins and the Rougeaus, it was great.

    • @m.jporte6514
      @m.jporte6514 6 лет назад +4

      I was in my mid teens living in Northern Ontario when that feud was going on, a buddy of mine who lived in Sudbury got tickets for an event featuring the Garvins vs the Rougeaus in a steel cage match. That was one hell of a match. This feud went on for almost 6 months, selling out everywhere they went. That's how a good booking was done. the Garvins were hated and the Rougeaus were loved. Classic wrestling period. Today's bookers can take note of how to build a wrestling feud, good talent doing a good job went a long way and good feuds could last long periods of time if done properly. WWE USED TO BE ABLE TO DO THIS.
      P.S. Garvin/Rougeau matches can be found on youtube.

    The Freebirds are more of an Memphis, Texas, Florida territory team, dad said they never really made a big deal in WCW/NWA Atlanta.

    • @78bcat
      @78bcat 6 лет назад +7

      You're old man is off. They were huge in Georgia (Atlanta), then Texas and still were pretty strong in Mid South/UWF...all three were national/semi-national via TV. So they had 6 years where they were really big and then coasted another 4-5 years, later with Garvin. That puts them on par with any team act of the era, second only to the Road Warriors.

    • @78bcat
      @78bcat 6 лет назад +4

      Always felt the mistake was him and Hayes were the same, whereas Buddy and Terry were contrasts....so had they just shifted the gimmick and dropped the Freebird name, it would have worked better. It's like the later Horsemen reincarnations. The factions would have worked better if you eliminate comparisons to when they had Tully and JJ. Without the dynamic they brought, it wasn't the Horsemen...but the groups still could have been fun.

    • @johnreece5540
      @johnreece5540 6 лет назад

      78bcat The other aspect that hurt was Garvin and Hayes heading to the ring singing that awful song. If the television audience response was any indication??? Had the audience been allowed to show their genuine reaction to the song. That reaction would have been a New York salute.

      @@78bcatI agree that the team was good but they weren't the Freebirds. If they had just come up with another name and gimmick it would have worked much better. There's no way to recreate something as successful as the original Freebirds were.

      tim mutohfan I went as a kid / teen to games and wrestling matches in the 70's to mid 80's. No AC in the Summer, tons of obstructed view seats, questionable facilities in the men's room, etc. There was a certain charm, though.

    Why did Garvin shave his beard? He looked so much cooler in World Class.

    • @diggitydave75438
      @diggitydave75438 6 лет назад +5

      thommytsunami Yeah he did. He still had the beard and the "Gorgeous" gimmick his first two years in Jim Crockett Promotions...or damn close to the first two years, until he became a Freebird. He still had the "Gorgeous" look when he was feuding with Wahoo McDaniel, when he first got to Crockett Promotions. Then when he turned face and started teaming with his "brother" (step-dad) Ronnie Garvin, and they were feuding with Ric Flair at first over Precious and later Kevin Sullivan, over Precious as well. His face run against Flair was good, and it produced some really good matches. But yeah, once he joined the Freebirds, he wasn't as good. I didn't dislike the WCW version of the Freebirds. They were good, but in comparison to the ORIGINAL Freebirds and Garvin's "Gorgeous" gimmick, they were horrible. That's how great the original Freebirds and Garvin were in WCCW.

    • @mr10tomidnight
      @mr10tomidnight 6 лет назад +7

      thommytsunami I always thought Jimmy was at his hottest in 1986 when he first started the NWA his intro was sharp dressed man, his wife looked even more hotter than in WCCW. His new finisher was that dreaded Brain buster that looked like a spiked DDT at the same. A far cry from The Jimmy that I saw fight David Von Erich and Chris Adams in World Class Wrestling a few years earlier
