I think an inverse of the current map should be done. Have a water feature in the middle and land around it instead. As well as "ports" for respawning boats at. Have it be a contest for the resources in the middle instead of just something you do at the beginning of the game automatically.

Pieces that block assassin are needed

Transport boats need a nerf so that they cannot carry kings. Removing your king from the attack range of 90% of peices is just too busted to stay. Wizard is also very stong, but considering it is the only peice that is not on the board to begin with it is perfectly fine.
Also, make rooks able to block assasins. They can already block frigates. Also allow the assasin to block other assasins, like counter-espionage.

Or make victory impossible as long as the king is in exile. If he is not, it could follow the same rule as a stalemate.

The Eagle should be able to fly to the islands
I thought of a version of chess in which it's played on a 9x8 board with the middle being a snake piece that can move on its own 2 squares in any direction or even over pieces or combine with other pieces to allow those pieces to do other special moves. IDK what moves though

I have this idea but I never seen it mentioned anywhere. As that Triple S guy likes to say, the rules are the same as regular chess, except for these changes:
1. The object is now to checkmate the QUEEN. Yes, she still has the same moves.
2. The king, now renamed the prince (consort), moves like a regular kind but is now just another piece subject to regular capture.
Would this be a good variation, or would checkmating a queen be too hard?

Some ideias: Maybe could be some turns of cooldown to use wizard again, first turn after use the wizard he cant even move or you can only use wizard spell 3 times per game (he will run out of mana) and he can recover his mana on the chest square again in the island. Love your new chess game!

I got a small idea for a dif way to win, so the wizard could control the king into boarding your transport ship so that that ship will then drop it off to an island thus ending it with an exile.

I think you shouldn't be able to carry the king. You can just run away and your opponent can't checkmate you anymore (If I understood it well). Also, I think you should remove the archer that's basically useless and replace it with a piece that can't attack, can't be captured, that moves like a king and act as a brick. The wizard wouldn't be able to attack throught the brick. The brick would be useful in endgame.

I actually love this gameplay, but the archer and eagle are basically copying each other, so Boo
