Btw the reason you had a massive volume dip from your verse to bridge was because you had the sample playing from within the EZ Drummer sequencer as well as the dragging the MIDI into logic. I've made the same mistake numerous times! Just something to remember if you export to the DAW
Great job. Thanks. Trying to decide if I want EZ Drummer....this helps a lot. Getting some emails from you now in 2020 and your lessons and tips are quite good.
I would like to know how you go about fine tuning the midi after you've split the channels. I only ask as at times want to manipulate the midi line Snare, kick etc. either for timing reasons or just to rewrite the part because what EZdrummer has suggested is close but not quit what I had I mind. I've looked for tuition on this but I can't seem to find anything.
Thanks Rob. I'm a drummer and wanted to know if EZdrummer 2 has the capability to address specific snare attributes. To me the snare is probably one of the most important pieces of a kit. Is there a way to add more flavor like specific rim shots and ghost notes to a groove creation process? I've never used software to generate drum tracks but with today's pandemic issues, it's been difficult to record live tracks. Thanks....
This is great, thanks! I wonder if the manner in which I "import" my drum track has changed (3/2021). I already have it incorporated as a "Software Instrument" in Logic so I am composing the drums "in app" (or standalone if I want).
Great vid..I've been holding out for Superior drummer to go on sale again..have used EZ2 before and never even thought about editing the midi manually..being able to change the fills and crashes to fit my songs has been my reason for recording live drums for my tracks..was looking forward to Superior Drummer taking that hassle out of the equations..you are absolutely correct, recording drums is a nightmare in a home studio enviroment..bleedthrough being the number one pain in the butt...thanx again for the Vid !
Great video, all very clear. But once I multitrack to Logic mixer, is there any way to split the toms and creat separate tracks for each rack tom and each floor tom? Cause they're now all together in 1 stereo fader. I know I can create tracks and then make a track stack for the drums. I saw a video where somebody explained how to split the toms, within the stack, so I know there is a way to do that.... but can't seem to find that video anymore .... do you know how and can you explain if so?
I just got EZ drummer 2 and use it purely for programming... I honestly don't like the basic sounds, way too processed BUT I can endorse it fully for assembling MIDI drum files, it is very good for adding and previewing user MIDI. Assembling the MIDI tracks over guide guitars etc is so easy, it even plays previews loops in time with the DAW. I have used the most stunning Drummer in Logic which is super-simple and very good but quite limited, I wish I had got EZ Drummer 3 sooner.
You may find that if you play your guitar/bass/keys parts to a chosen beat, (even if it's not refined yet) rather than a click, that those parts will be affected by the drums, which is the way it's traditionally done with a real drummer. Also, even though the timing difference is minute, you are then playing to a beat that is already time displaced due to any small latency introduced in the chain from EZ to final output. Your drum parts are suspiciously very well matched to your song which indicates that you probably chose those beats previously and not through the random process you portrayed. This is my point.
Some decent tips, would have liked to see you tweaking some of that EZdrummer midi (I am guessing you first need to know what is what on the piano roll so as to be able to target and tweak individual drum sounds). Interesting to see you only have one EZdrummer sound expansion ('INDIE FOLK') probably not even the best choice for the music you are making but you do seem to have a lot of the crazily expensive Fabfilter products!
I would like to know if there are any tutorials, or links that have EZ Drummer 2 with a the whole song completed mixed from start to end I've seen some using Metal songs, but no blues, rock country etc.. Or is there a website that has compiled demo songs the have been recoded and mixed using EZ Drummer 2 ? I can't find one example of a song anywhere on the web Thanks
Thanks for the reply. So I assume that EZ Drummer is a really good tool for writing and composing music only not for a Pro recorded mix if so there would be plenty of song demo's out there with EZ Drummer. Do you have a completed mix of this song? Thanks again
you’re looking for some kind of drum pattern (in the initial stages) for the song...SOMETIMES less is more. I’d even go with a simple hihat-kick pattern (initially). IMO ‘click tracks’ restrain creative flow, a song NEEDS to move around. It maybe 120 BPM at x-bar BUT slows to 90 BPM at the end. Yes it’s a lot easier to edit things when everything is quantized BUT you loose the feel/EMOTION. We all love live bands, they are not playing to a ‘click track’ obviously...THINGS EBB and FLOW. Throw your metronome out the window
If you drag midi from EZdrummer into your DAW, you need to mute the midi tracks in ez drummer!!!! Otherwise both tracks are played!!! thats why you here "a volume change there" 9:29
"We're headed in the right direction", he says. That direction is called Interpol, my friend, and you are DEFINITELY headed there, lol. Great song, btw (until that horrid final Riff kicks in, lol, classic turd in the punch bowl, audio style), but HIGHLY derivative. HIGHLY derivative, lol. Nearing cover status, in fact, but great nonetheless.
Just got EZ Drummer 2 so this has been a great video to get going with! Thank you.

So is it just to delete the midi notes from the plugin an only play it from the daw?
Really appreciate all your videos. Nice delivery, concise, and informative.
Glad we could help!

Unreal. Thanks for putting in so much effort into your videos. Cheers

Thanks a ton Rob. always a gem in every video I watch of yours : )

Thanks for the video. Very informative. This helps me in using EZDrummer.
Hey Man - thanks for making this Video ... Just about to switch from Logic drummer to EZDrummer. This Vid was superhelpful cheers
I think the volume change around 9 mins was because you need to mute the playlist segments in EZDrummer, otherwise you get the part doubled.
Disclaimer: I'm one of those annoying people who wasn't able to watch the whole video :P Had to run off, so maybe you said that later!

Thanks from the U.S You sold me on this and Excellent video. I already subscribed to your channel.
How do you minimized and maximize the ez drummer screen ?
How do you convert the individual drums into mono tracks? Who wants a stere kick or snare?
your videos have helped me so much thank you for all the advice. you rock man
Happy we could help!
Doesn't the EZdrummer kick interfere with the bass guitar?
Perfect thanks a lot maestro
Great track Rob..where can we hear the finished tune?

Hmm, nothing comes to mind currently. Best of luck finding on!

What amp simulations do you use?

I've been meaning to purchase EZDrummer 2, just never get the chance to commit. Waiting for special/discount moment. lol
Did that moment come? I'm in the same situation right now, lol
@ no, I haven't purchased it yet. There are a few other options that do enough for me.
great lesson
Thank you, I was found how to multichannel on mixer ,but I understood
Our pleasure!
Anywhere to hear the finished tune?
Interesting, thx
No problem.
Mahalo from Honolulu!
Thanks mate 👌🏾👍🏾
The first thing I don't like about this video is it doesn't explain how to connect Logic w EZ Drummer. Kind of lost me from there.
Sounds like a MIDI song.. but I do like the creative process.
Thanks!
Nobody does drums last dude
He does.
hahaha
