Skynyrd 1974 @ Academy of Music 14TH STREET NYC was as good a show as I've seen... right up there w./ Zeppelin and better LIVE than Pink Floyd.
Song fact told by Ed King (rhythm guitar here): ”Allen & Gary were recording their dual guitar leads one day when Ronnie came into the studio and said "It's time to do the vocal." So everybody dropped what they were doing, set up one microphone out in the middle of the room, and Ronnie did the vocal in one pass (with one "punch-in" to correct a mistake).”- Ed King It’s a friend of Ed, Mike Porter, who plays those wonderful drums. Ed plays both bass and rhythm guitar (Fender Stratocaster through a Princeton amp). The rhythm section is so f##kin brilliant! Lynyrd Skynyrd, the original band with Ronnie, never played this song live, but the later tribute band has done it.
When I heard this as a deep cut, I was down. The slow vibe and the singing of it just put you in a chill mood and a solid slow jam for when you need it.
Not one off the first five albums which happen to be the top five albums from the band. Same with their top 20 songs all pre77. Not one cover band single or album up there Augusta Ga

@@ATO19657 Man if that plane had crashed on that tragic day in history There would not even be an argument about the best rock band of all time Ronnie is one of the best song writers ever and they say that he never wrote down any lyrics to a song I have heard of a photogenic memory But this is next level memory I have never heard of anyone that writes music to never write down any lyrics and be able to remember this many lyrics after first trying to put the words with the instruments To me Allen Collins doesn’t get the recognition that he should have I believe until Steve G was hired to play with the band I believe that Collins was the most talented guitarist of the band But this is just my opinion I have never even heard of another band that had so many great songs and in the short amount of time that all of these songs were written is almost unbelievable I sit around and wonder about all of the great music we never got to hear because of this awful day that we lost everyone that died in the plane crash All of the greats we have lost over the years is crazy Ronnie, Dwayne, Allman, and SRV just two name a few RIP TO THE LEGENDS who’s lives were cut down in their prime is very sad But thanks for everything they ever did for music period I knew the first time that I listened to Skynyrd that this would always be one of my all time favorite bands

I LOVE this song, written by Gary Rossington & Ronnie van Zant. Mr. Rossington just passed away recently. He was also the subject of "That Smell." My suggestion for your next reaction would be "The Ballad of Curtis Loew,' a song that played tribute to an old Black man who influenced Lynyrd Skynyrd's music. It's so poignant.
Actually it turned out to be about Shorty Medlocke. Ricky Medlocke's grandfather after all these years thinking there was actually a real Curtis Lowe. Respect
