“White Snow in Spring” first appeared in 1895 (Qing dynasty) as a hand-written score by pipa master Li Fangyuan's New Collection of Thirteen Pipa Score.

@@jasonhuang6078 the score dates from Qing dynasty so it’s not a modern composition. The rhythm and the structure of the piece is clearly not modern.

Even then, classical musicians still memorize their pieces for the most part
@@Ori0987 Some classical musicians do, some don't. You'll never see a symphony where not every player has the music in front of them, but a concerto/sonata/whatever kind of solo, sure. Classical musicians usually memorize solos(like this one), but not ensemble music.
It’s actually really easy lol. You just need to sync with the music and it’ll stick with you. Unless you blank out like me :)

It's probably because a lot of people don't know the name of Eastern instruments. Even if people love their sounds.
Until last week, totally unaware of Wu Man, but since seeing the film "The Music of Strangers," I can't hear enough of her music. Brilliant musician and artist.

As a young man I liked to watch the television show entitled Hee Haw, in one part of the show Roy Clark with Buck Owens would play stringed instruments together. They called it Picking and Grinning, but with Wu Man I'd call her performance Picking and Feeling because you can see her picking but at the same time you can also see her feeling it as she plays her Pipa instrument. 🎶
