So here is a new idea for Odders Lab: they could add a virtual mirror inside the game using your phone's camera. Not all of us have a full body mirror in our workout room, and this would be safer too. When you listed the things you might hit in VR, I only thought of that big mirror in front of you... which of course made so much more sense by the end of this amazing video, but still, a virtual mirror could be another gamechanger feature.
Some kind of virtual mirror would be amazing - yes! And I don't use mine during the workouts at all. Mirrors can actually affect tracking, so I only faced that way because I thought it was a cool way to se "on camera" without having to do any kind of crazy editing! For the workouts, they are too fast for you to look at your form while working out, but recording your workouts in VR/MR is always something I recommend doing :) You're definitely touching on the next big thing I would like to see in VR/MR though - some kind of full-body outside-in tracking that can help control for form and allow for even better coaching/visual feedback :)
oh no! There was a guideline that showed up the first time I opened the app in MR mode - but it didn't show up after the first time :/ Glad you enjoyed the video!
Would you recommend Bodycombat for someone newer to working out? I like doing boxing as a workout but not sure how beginner friendly Bodycombat is. Thats the only thing keeping me from buying. Also does Bodycombat let you do workouts without the trainer? Just you and the music.
Bodycombat is perfectly suited for beginners :) The only consideration to make is the squats. The easier workouts won't make you squat as deeply, but I don't think there's a way to turn them off. So you have to be comfortable with that. You can turn off the instructor's comments, but it could make it more difficult to hit the targets/know what's coming up next. I saw you commented on another video as well - I'll give you a bit more information there :)
Thank you! I just found the list of available voice commands as well - they are under your profile settings and a little "i" icon - I'll share a screenshot in the community tab and comments later :)
You're talking about lifting knees, but the game isn't actually detecting knees at all (and has no way to - at least not for now with the Quest 3). I find those knee pods very easy to miss, and for no apparent reason, but what's certain is that it's not the knee - it works as well without moving your knee at all. I think it's just the timing window that's not forgiving enough, that or the Quest 3's detection not good enough. Way too often those knee pods pass through you and you have no idea what you did wrong. And generally it repeats, it's a lot of misses in a row or a lot of hits. I wish I knew what's wrong with those knee pods, but it's simply not the knees. Personally I like the mix VR mode because it makes me more sure that I'm not gonna hit my furniture.
Not hitting furniture is always a good thing 🙌 I talked about the knee hits in detail in my previous Bodycombat video (ruclips.net/video/r3SWZJdiRuw/видео.html) I brought it up here because being able to lift it higher and hold it longer activates more muscles and give you an overall better workout. Hope that makes sense :)
wow, I'll got my 1st Quest 3 this week, as a beginner can i ask you how you can record the video like 1:42 and 1:46? with full posture and including the graphic ?
I use a software called LIV. Unfortunately, a recent update to the Quest headsets means you can't do it anymore with Quest native games, only Steam games that have the SDK included
Good update review. I downloaded this ages ago, and then downloaded the updated version. They had new moves in here like elbow strikes that were horizontal. Good. I did the practice / demo for this but where are elbow strikes built into the drills? I cannot find any routines that have these new elbow moves in. Does anyone know where they are located ?
Why does everyone's pass-through look so good in videos yet my pass-through looks horrible. So much fuzzy dots. I've tried alot of light & low light but still fuzzy. What am I doing wrong or is my headset bad?
Check that you're on the most recent software update as there has been a lot of improvements to the pass-through quality lately. Also check that you don't have power-saving turned on :)
@VikingPrincessVR I'm up to date & just checked & power saving is off. Just feel like Q3 pass-through looks same quality as Q2 pass-through just with color. Maybe it's my eyes.
@PlanetGamz hmm that is so strange! It's clear enough that I can read text on my phone while using it. I assume everything else is sharp, so it's not the lenses that are set wrong?
Brilliant idea! I only have a Quest 2 for the foreseeable future, but even here MR makes a big difference. Having the surroundings in black and white just puts more emphasis on the workout, but keeps me safe in the real world. And I was too missing those footmarks! I was actually going to write to Odders Lab, but I guess they already got the memo from you.
I am glad you liked it! And I can totally see how MR on Quest 2 would make a difference as well! I'm actually sad I didn't spend more time looking at those features previously.
it would be ugly on the Pico, because the MR is only 2D instead of 3D on the Q3. I own some MR games for the PICO but none of them is worth (caused by the hardware)
I don't have access to Pico, and I wasn't able to see any update/release notes for Pico when Googling it. But Bodycombat is available on Pico, so if they have released this update there, you should see it :) I've sent them a quick message to ask - will let you know when I hear back from them!
Hello again! I heard back from the Bodycombat/Odder Lab team, and they said that the mixed reality mode is exclusive for the Quest version and will unfortunately not be added to Pico.
Because the targets have to come from somewhere. So imagine my small room - if they had to spawn on one side, and I stood on the opposite side - it would give me very little time to react and prepare for the targets. You need a certain amount of time to set yourself up and prepare in order to strike the targets with good form and purpose. I don't think there's any way around a portal for these kind of target-based apps. But not all apps will need to use a portal. I'll be reviewing the best MR apps on Quest 3 this week, and I know there's some different solutions out there - so stay tuned ;)
Maybe they didn’t want to waste the artwork that they used to design the different environments. They might have planned to charge for premium environments in the future, which would be pointless if most people use MR.
@@teeausgang If the items start small, and you are in a busy room, they would be incredibly difficult to see. I know they did substatial testing with different options, looking to solve the issue of small spaces and items coming towards you; the studio delivered a very interesting talk about it at the Game Developer Conference (GDC) in March. Not every workout or game mode will show off MRs capabilities the same way, and this was an update that took a current app and re-designed it -- as opposed to designing an app for MR from ground-up. The MR integration is still an improvement of the app :)
@@teeausgang interestingly, your suggestion is much simpler to implement since it just requires standard passthrough without needing room (wall) data. But you'll find that it's actually quite jarring because it appears to be coming from very far away, usually beyond your wall, so your depth perception is thrown off since the wall and the object doesn't match. It's also very hard to see if you have decor along the wall it's coming from.
I also wish you could talk to the people while you doing the workout like you can with virtual ping pong. Talking is good way to distract yourself all I can do at the moment setup my phone with ChatGPT and do chat mode while I workout which is okay but the personality right now are a bit flat. Would be nice if you could use your own music in the program instead of having to stream your own.
So a multi-player feature? I would definitely want to see the option of setting up matches and talk :) If you have other friends that play the app, you can also use a general voice channel via Quest and talk to them there while doing the same class, as an example. For the music, the moves are highly coordinated with the songs, and setting workouts to the right music is a cornerstone of Les Mills programs; I doubt that will ever go away. Just curious - what do you talk about when working out? Or what would you like to talk about? It's not something I ever do myself, so I would love to learn more :D
@@VikingPrincessVR Spanish practice, current events, technology, funny quotes, basically anything. Sometimes though it lags or can't access the internet when a lot of people use it but it has a lot of uses if you want to know about general knowledge.
@@southcoastinventors6583 Interesting! What got you into having those kind of deeper conversations while working out? Would you talk about the same things if you were talking to a real person?
@@VikingPrincessVR I would rather talk with a actually person but you have to realize that the AI language models are trained on the collected works of entire species authors so in a way you are talking to all the authors in a crude way. I would say it like if you could talk to a library.
