Great video! I really like your idea for storing the shear pin.

Congrats on this upgrade! Regarding wearing block or bushing for the screws... When I installed mine I used DN 32 PVC tube for sink drain that is 32 mm outside and close to 28 mm inside - just slightly bigger than the screw. I have some stretchers underneath the worktop that I drilled to let this pipe with the screw to go through. Now the screw is supported all the way and also protected from dust underneath (though, some saw dust on exposed part of the screw can go inside when you close the vice). Also I built a prototype out of cheap construction wood for front and rear jaws before installing to the actual workbench - that helped a lot for figuring all out.

Thanks Andrey! I love the PVC idea for support and preventing dust from getting on the grease. Also, I keep bumping the screws and get grease marks on my forearms when I reach under for tools. That would solve that too. Will have to look into it.

You’re welcome glad you liked it. I’m getting so much use out of this. Knowing what I know now I would have bought a new one years ago instead of trolling for used!

I’d like to find a used one for my bench! I’ve been looking for a vise to go in the other end of my current bench… this looks like strong candidate. Thanx Tom

They are under $300 new. Knowing what I know now I would have paid that price easily.

Very helpful video! Thank you. Trying to decide between this vise and the Rockler Quick Release large vise

Thanks so much for the compliment! I can definitely recommend the Veritas twin screw, it’s well worth the price. The twin screw have a ton of power and there are no bars between then giving SO MUCH more flexibility in clamping pieces up right. The one thing it lacks is a quick release feature, but that has not bothered me at all. However I can see it being a deal breaker for some.

When you dropped the shear pin into the handle (great idea by the way) I said to myself “There is no way I’d remember that pin is there.” And then you said it. I’d have to label the cap with a permanent marker with something like sear pin here or something , otherwise …. Well you get my drift. 😉

Too True, Bill. At least I have it on video.
