I've been rediscovering Raúl since last year (watched Hannibal years ago and loved it but somehow never followed up), and his whole back catalogue of work has brought me so much joy! God knows how dark the pandemic isolation would have been without his talent and personal warmth and light. I'm not from the US and I definitely plan to make it to NY one day to see him perform, if I can, but to hear him acknowledge the worldwide broadway community (and also the worldwide Raúl Esparza fan community) is wonderful!!
As an Italian musical theatre fan (especially of Stephen Sondheim), I find Raul's reflection on the immense possibility that technology can offer to those who cannot make to Broadway (due to geographical distance, economic availability, or any other impediment) extremely important and to be carefully considered by the theatre community.
Yes!!! I live in the US but far far from Broadway, and the fact that I have to scrimp and save not only to get tickets but to travel to NYC to experience Broadway is few and far between. I’ve appreciated the recorded shows (professional not RUclips) but the fact that what we get is the film version (usually subpar) or the extremely expensive national or international tours
