I think the MECOOL KM2 could actually be a rebrand of this box. Let me know your thoughts, hearing a lot of positives from people who own 1.

When you first set up the MECOOL KM2, at the beginning it says
"Your LEAP-S1 is powered by android tv"
MeCool KM2 is a NICE device. Is the Leap 1 only available in Europe?
I've never owned one, I've always had firesticks. I want one to put a Desktop experience on (like Samsung's DevX on my tablet), so that I can use it as a media centre (Netflix, Kodi, RUclips, and my own vids) and a portable work station. I have a portable 4k monitor and bluetooth keyboard/ mouse and really I'll be using Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and Xhamster.
SOOOO here's my question:
I've watched this vid, and its a good review, I'm tempted, but how does it stack up in the 2022 market. Is this the one I should be going for?
A top 2 budget, mid range, and bells and whistles list would be great, and comparing them to these micro PCs would be super useful.

Everything looks like the mecool, even the remote.
According to the model name it's a leap-s1.
So I think it's the same!

Why is it box reviews never cover Audio capabilities? If the box can play (or pass) Dolby or Dolby Atmos?
I would like to ask a question. Is the remote control linked via Bluetooth or does it have to be in-sight of the box?

Strong was a brand of digital set top boxes that used to get sold in Australia.
It seems as if it's one step forward, two steps back with Android boxes. A few years ago, you had 4gb/64gb boxes for under £40 that could handle 4k streaming adequately, and had Playstore access. It does seem odd that storage has been throttled on newer devices, whether that's purely down to cost cutting, or some weirdo at Netflix legal recommending only low storage devices for licensing. Hopefully we'll get a Google certified product with Netflix licensing, and at least 4gb memory/32gb storage for under £70 by the end of the year. Until then, I'll stick with my (perfectly serviceable) four year old, cheap as chips Android box, and a 4k firestick bought on special offer for £25. I've got two devices that together cost less than this one, with more storage, and greater flexibility...
You either pick a powerful box for playing (sacrificing proper cooling and license) or make compromises at this price point. You need a few years in order to get good devices at 25-50 dollars.
I bought a Mecool Km1 Deluxe and had the exact same expectation as you have right now. Had licensed google ATV OS, along with 905X3 with 4GB RAM and 64 GB RAM, i thought all was cool, until it overheated at a 4k video playback. Picked it apart and seen that the chip was covered with a single thermal tape, without a proper heat sink. That was the moment when I realized, currently there is no such thing as perfect device at a relatively low price. But it will come in time.

Looks sound enough pal, some cheaper than this firesticks/Chromecast can be a little laggy at times but that seemed to run smooth as, cheers for great review again
Hi boss, I'm a little late seeing this video but can I just ask a question please ? I'm currently using the M8S PRO L, I'm having an issue when I turn it off ,it loads all blurry then fixes itself, also my apps keep stopping or let's say apiktv stopped etc, will this box you're talking about be a better choice or should I just go back to a firestick thanks 😊

Looks like a pretty nice box, however the remote could use a little work done to it is order for it to perform better.

Sent mine back. No Auto framerate switching with Kodi or Plex. Constantly outputs HDR. Hopefully, future firmware updates will fix these issues. On the plus side, Apple TV+ can be installed via the Google app store. BBC iPlayer can be sideloaded. The Strong has great potential 🙂
Does the sideloaded iplayer work fully ie scroll through the library properly?

It would be useful to know exactly what version of Android OS it's running?
Also, have you dabbled with storage extension at all?
Overall, it looks to be a suitable replacement for some aging Firesticks I've got around here.

I got this box, and the only issue I have is pairing it with bluetooth headphones. I've tried three pairs, Beats Studio 3, OneOdio A71 and Skullcandy Dimes, none of them work with the box. My Xbox One S controller connects fine. It's a shame since I use headphones a lot and I really like the box otherwise...
To add, I've contacted Strong support, both via their website form and directly via email. No reply and it's been weeks. :/

Count me as one (1) of many. I have been using a android box Magicee N5 max. I have never been able to get it to update! Like the concept of streaming TV but need it to be above board. May I ask about motion smoothing? I have an alternative to this box at home (Thomson THA100), internal name is also LEAP-S1, and no matter what player I use (KODI, VLC, HBOGo ...), smoothing is still active - so all movies look like a soap opera (original 24fps resamples to something else), and it looks disgusting. I haven't found a way to disable this feature. How about this player? Is the smoothing active as well? How to get rid of it?

Which are better Android boxes or Fire Sticks?
I suggest try an android 11 TV box 8gb ram and 128gb storage with option of MX 3 air mouse remote control. Performance will be excellent.

This is the same as mecool km2 just with 8gig insted 16gig on the km2 , when you power on the km2 for the first time or when you rename your km2 device you can see the name is leap s1 on the km2 . So they both have the same name leap 1s
Hello Free Tech, I'm using the Leap S1 for quite some time now. It doesn't connect/reconnect to wifi on startup although it it seems to be set to always connect to wifi. Have you encountered this "problem"? It is great otherwise.
Eyup. I’ve not come across this issue no. It does sound strange though. I don’t think there’s a Wi-Fi option to connect on start-up either is there. I’ll let you know if I find anything out 🍻
@@FreeTech Thanks 🍻Some people say it's been this way since 2015 (no auto reconnect on Android TV). You're right, no option to connect on start-up either. Seems like some Android TV devices do it, some don't. I have two of these, and both don't connect automatically. On almost every start-up the wifi slider is "off". Odd.
This comes fully updated. It simply took one day and it was up to date with the new layout.

Does Leap S1 play Disney+ in 4K UHD? Amazon fire tv box has HDCP 2.2 issues.

2 GB ram is enough for streaming services. However I'd really much like to see that they upped the storage to be able to have more apps and their cache without it being claustrophobic. 32 GB should be the bare minimum these days. Preferably a real SSD (a low end one would be fine - anything but the eMMC) and it would boot and start apps blazingly fast even with a low end CPU.

If you have the KM2 there’s no need for this box bud.
Get a Samsung Galaxy S8 phone. For under $100 US, you get 4gb ram, 64 gb storage and Samsung DeX. Beats every Android box hands down.

You first box was made by strong called the rockbox but couldn't be updated it was android 4 and stopped working and you needed a mouse.
We have the same TV in SA but it’s Skyworth branded. Same model number
I’ve just bought a Mecool KM2 and when checking the about tab, I see it is a Leap S1
Because it is based on the Strong Leap S1 device. I think this is a good thing, since Mecool suffered from quality issues at a few models, Especially with KM1 (which suffered from missing heat sink)

I have this and definitely I would suggest it two thumbs up, compare to Xiaomi mi box S which I previously use which is no match and for the features Xiaomi doesn't stand a chance. gaming is also good, 2.4 and 5ghz wifi connectivity. In my case about the remote you just need to restart the device it will be fine, I think the problem starts if you turn off the device looses the connectivity. its been so long since I use it anyway forget about it. anyway overall rating 5 out of 5. pls support Free Tech.. The problem with those boxes is data input and control, if there's not a cell phone controlled wi fi app they are a pain in the neck

Tidal master does not work on this box.
Netflix 4k hdr atmos no vision.
Disney plus only 4k hdr no atmos and 5.1 only
Prime 4k hdr no atmos only 5.1.
Usb only plays 1080p hdr not 4k vision or atmos.
Its very basic box for basic use thats it
