How to Remove, Clean and Replace EGR valve for Astra (1.9 CDTi)

In this video I'll show you how to remove, clean and replace the EGR valve on your Vauxhall Astra. The model I have is an 58 plate 1.9 Diesel SRI. The reason for cleaning is due to excessive black smoke from the exhaust. I perform this routine once a year. I originally took the vehicle to a Vauxhall repair centre and they told me the problem was terminal and the engine needed replacing. I visited numerous other garages and was told it could be the Inlet manifold leaking, or the DPF filter (already changed) or the EGR valve. Millers diesel additive helped initially but eventually had no effect. I should probably blank the EGR valve off with a blanking plate but that requires sending the car to a garage to have its ECU reprogrammed to accomodate the loss of the EGR unit. what You will need:
10mm Spanner or Socket
13mm Spanner or Socket
Flat head screw driver
Wynns Carb/Injector cleaner
Cloths/towels
Small Paintbrush

I was going to spend £200 getting a new valve fitted at the garage before I watched this video nice one pal worked a dream total cost £10

The valve and spring on mine was almost completely seized up due to carbon build-up. Best method I have found is to remove the valve and the plastic part as well, soak the valve in a bowl of coca-cola for a few hours. This will lift all the carbon away and clean it all out. Then rinse under the tap, wipe the inside of it with a cloth and work the spring mechanism a bit to free it up. Then apply some wd40 and refit to the car. 👍
