Thank you for collaborating with me this week! I love how the curriculum videos can be helpful even if it’s a different grade level-I have been considering Explode the Code for my 1st grader!
Summer! I saw a notification for your comment on my video but then when I went I reply it isn’t showing up! I just didn’t want you to think I didn’t respond to you!
I was wondering if you've ever done a split year when it came to schooling your oldest couple. Lorelai will be in 2nd grade this year (technically) but I feel that she's just not ready. I was thinking of doing half the year continuing with her first grade studies and then working into second grade for the second half of that year. I'm still new at this. She also has a speech delay and is not yet reading.
Yes!! This upcoming year actually my oldest will be finishing his 2nd grade math curriculum before moving onto 3rd grade curriculum. And as far as reading, as long as she is progressing on her own scale then I wouldn’t stress too much over it ☺️ my 2nd oldest son has been a slower to learn reader but he’s still progressed at his own rate.
You have grammar and spelling in TGATB language arts, and then you are doing handwriting without tears I thought... I would say you are definitely covered!
We have done Horizons for grades k through pre-algebra. I honestly have no idea how your child got through 2 years in one. My kids really struggle to get it all done. They are very solid in their math, but it is SO MUCH repetition. We are actually switching for next year because we just cant take it anymore. Not one of my 5 kids like it. 😭
When they do a few pages at a time I would have them skip over things they’d already done & would only have them do parts of the pages of problems. It is very repetitive! But I also think that’s what builds that solid foundation.
@@sixheartshomeschool We did do that...but I think it's just not our style. I totally agree though that the repetition helps with a good foundation! I was more just amazed that you guys got through so much in one year! 🤣🤣🤣 My hats off to you!!!
Honestly it was totally my boys! They blew through it. They completely amazed me! I 100% get that. & it totally affirms why we homeschool, right?! I love that we can tailor it to fit our family’s needs. I love that for all of us! ❤️❤️❤️
I would definitely recommend just working on writing unless you want to do a full blown spelling curriculum. That’s what I’ve always done with the boys & it’s been the easiest (pain free) way to help with their spelling. 🤗
I bet you’ll experience a similar situation 😬 I’ve found they often don’t realize or take into consideration that they’re actually NOT twins 🙈 and are different ages!
Which speech disorder does your son have ? My youngest has/had severe dyspraxia /ataxia of speech (he didn't start talking till 5.5 years old) - his turning 9 in August and is only just making progress with reading, he completed explode the code 1, and is doing 1 1/2, and we have been using decodable readers with *finally great success.
He had an expressive speech delay. I have definitely seen how it has effected his ability to read but he’s making progress so I am just continuing to truck on. And way to go momma 👏🏻 just continuing to find what works for your son & helps him progress at HIS pace is the best way! 🙌🏻
I love Explode the Code for supplementing too! I’ll be using that with AAR 2 for my 2nd grader too :) I’m going to look into that journaling study!
Explode the code is one of my favorites!

We love Explode the Code so much!
"It's gonna be a whole thing." I got you. We have similar situations with books and sometimes I don't want it to be a thing. 😳🤣🤣 Love this selection!

@@RootedHomeLife huh! That's weird! I'll take a look! You're a lovey--didn't hurt my feelings at all. 🤗🤗💕💕
If you know you know 🤣 it’s a thing &we don’t want it to be a thing!
Thank you so much for sharing this! I’m a second year homeschool mom and first year RUclips mom! Curriculum videos are my favorite!

Yes you’re absolutely right! I know I’ve felt like at times (from seeing others curriculum choices) I needed more but we get plenty!!

Does anyone have recommendations for a great reader but reluctant speller?

I wonder that about my youngest 2-how they will do with doing/not doing the same things-they are only 15 months apart!
